Leander:
I was heading towards my office after dinner when Asher asked to talk to me in private. I kind of knew what he wanted to talk to me about as we silently headed towards my office. Asher might be one of my strongest warriors and a feared man among pack's but he was my baby brother and I knew him all too well. Even after all that happened to him, he's still a hopeless romantic.
We came into my office and sat in our usual chairs after grabbing two glasses of whiskey. Alcohol did nothing to us thanks to our high metabolism. So it was more for pleasure. It would take at least 4 bottles to start feeling tipsy. For me at least. I never tested my limits.
“Spit it out, Asher. I don't have all day.” I said.
“Your work for the day is done, bro. You know I am aware of pack business as much as it's alpha and beta.” He responded with a wink. Sly asshole.
“I never said I had work to do, bro.” I said the last word in a mocking tone.
“Ooh! Hot date with your mate?” he asked wiggling his brows.
“Hot date my ass. But I am going to see that mutt anyway.”
“Why do you keep calling her that? She's your mate, Leander.”
“You know I can’t have a mate, Asher. She must be lying.”
“Are you crazy? I stood by and watched you cage her in your room while you run around with your latest conquest but I won’t keep it in anymore. Rena told me she found her a crying mess earlier and I decided to talk to you about it. It seems to me, you are the reason for it unfortunately. “ he said back angrily.
At the mention of Morena crying, I felt a pang in my chest but I pushed it away. “What happens between me and her is none of your business. Father said I can’t have a mate and I have lived like that my whole life. She is barely of age. Do you think I would believe for a second she is what she claims to be.”
He looked at me shell shocked for a moment before angrily throwing his glass at the wall behind me. It passed right by my head and I didn’t even flinch. I expected such an outburst from him.
“You have got to be kidding me! You have lost your fucking mind indeed.” He yelled his eyes wild and glossy.
“watch your mouth, Asher.”
“I can’t believe you still let father guide you by the tail like before.” He said stand-in up from his chair and waiving his hands exasperatedly.
“I did no such thing.” I responded almost immediately, offended he would make suck assumptions.
“Who are you trying to fool, Leander. Have you forgotten the reason you finally killed that abusive son of a bitch for? He did not want us to have mates. He considered them a weakness even before mom, let alone after he lost her. He has implanted his corrupted thoughts so deep inside you, you are rejecting your other half.”
“It has nothing to do with dad, Asher. For the last time, get it through your skull.”
“It has everything to with dad. You're just too blind to see it.” He responded with a sigh.
“I said it has nothing to do with him and that's final. I am a fucking black wolf, brother. A werewolf destined for loneliness and solitude for the rest of my fucking life. A bloody monster feared by all. Even my own pack. Do you think the moon goddess would really pair me up with someone like Morena. She has to be a fake.” I screamed as my wolf was threatening to come out. We did not like being yelled at.
“Keep telling yourself that.” He said with a defeated shake of his head before leaving the office and leaving me swallowed in my dark thoughts. The thoughts that hunted me for days every time the subject of my father is even slightly brought up.
