Athena
I could not believe my eyes at first. The sight of the bloodthirsty wolves who screamed nothing but rogues made a chill of terror run down my spine.
"What in the damn hell...." Aaron's low voice was the only thing that cut through the silence of the car, except for the teeth-clattering tremble of the driver who looked dead before even being touched.
However, it surprised me that Aaron's eyes were not looking at the sight of the disgusting wolves, they were looking at the view behind the car-- Julia and that unknown guy with her.
I did not get the time to register anything, what was happening was strange and totally out of the blue. Yes, I had been anticipating Julia's arrival but not in this way that terrified everyone, including me.
Hurting someone in order to escape was the last thing I ever had in my mind.
And before I could have the time to utter a simple reaction, I saw the man behind the mask, raising his hand and counting from one.
One....
I saw him slowly raising his index finger, giving us a sense of peril. The low guttural howls of the rogues sounded louder than before.
Restlessness crawled up my skin. I did not know where to look— At the rogues who were ready to jump on our flesh and bones to tear us into pieces, or that man with Julia when I was unsure of who he was looking at, but it did feel like he was communicating with Aaron and it did not even look like a communication, it looked like a threat.
Two....
The rogues seemed to be on the verge of pouncing at us. Their legs were ready for action. They were thirsty for blood and apparently it was us three in the car who was their target.
The sinister smile painted on his mask did match the energy he gave away by barely doing anything— There was something dark; Very dark about the way he carried himself even though he had done nothing other than just sitting there and looking at us from behind the facade.
I did have any idea what was happening. Julia was here to help me, wasn't she?
Then what was the point of all of these?!
Three...
"Drive, fucking dri—" Aaron's panicked voice was cut through the sound of howls from the rogues; It took less than a second for them to jump over the car.
The loud noises and scraping of their nails against the car doors, windows and glasses, forced me to cover my ears. Within seconds, the expensive exterior of the car was nothing less than an old rusty vehicle. The blood dripping from the crannies of the rogues painted the front glass of the car red, their growls and red-eyed vicious stares made me nauseous.
"Athena, hold on for a second. Don't try to get out of the car," Aaron glanced back at me, I could tell that he was on the way to attempt to get out of the car, but at that very moment, one of the rogues managed to break the front glass and attacked him right away.
"Aaron..." A worried gasp slipped past my lips as I saw the rogue biting onto his arm as he tried to shield himself.
"Fucking hell!" He cursed under his breath and to my surprise, instead of pushing the rogue out of the car, he dragged it close to him by grabbing ahold of its neck and then...I heard a snap, followed by a long pained howl of the creature.
Another crack was heard before a slicing sound broke through which allowed me to notice that Aaron had torn the rogue's head apart from its body.
Carelessly he threw the beheaded body from the same path it had crawled inside. And then another rogue decided to jump in and, within seconds....he did the same.
Blood splattered everywhere inside the car, and Aaron's white shirt has been painted all in its colour red. He was tearing the rogues from inside the car as if it was nothing but a video game he was playing over there— Though he did not look concerned, he still had rage covering the features of his face.
When I thought that it couldn't go any worse, the rogues began to break through the car door on both Aaron's and Driver's sides, however, none of those creatures tried to break the door on my side. As if I, who was sitting in the back of the car and wasn't a target at all, and in this car, there were only these two people whom they wanted to eat alive.
Dragging a rogue inside by its leg, Aaron with his extended nails tore it from upside down, starting from the bottom of its neck and ending at its belly. The organs spilt out inside the car, over his lap and the driver's, who looked horrified about the entire situation.
I felt like vomiting. My vision was edge away from getting blurred like a broken screen of an old monitor. I wanted to look away, and escape from this smell of blood and flesh, but I was paralyzed on the spot. My limbs were not willing to move.
Aaron glanced back at me, throwing the head of one of the many rouges he had killed, basically while being seated in his place, at the Driver's lap.
"Keep the car fucking locked, I want her safe and secure, do you get it?" His dark shot at him to which the man nodded with hurry, perhaps, noticing the fury burning in his eyes.
And this time he looked back at me, I nearly gasped when I saw all the blood traces that covered his face and his dark eyes that looked....sinister.
I did not have any idea why but something about him felt very dark; A very dark energy that I did not feel safe around at all, even though I knew he intended to protect me.
"Stay in the car, Athena. No matter what, don't step out." It was more like a warning and after the dark, I somewhat didn't find any urge to figure out the consequences.
With one last glance at me, he walked out of the car. Slamming the door shut behind him.
The rogues got off of the bonnet soon as they noticed him getting out.
But, what happened was out of the blue. Instead of them, it was Aaron who jumped on them but for some reason, he just didn't shift or maybe he didn't need to. He, alone, in his human form, seemed to be enough for this huge number of rogues.
He was grabbing those terrifying rogues as if they were rag dolls and throwing them here and there. Some of them died on the spot and some of them dared to get and attack again, only to get killed the very next moment.
"These few rogues? You think that's enough?" I heard him yell looking in the direction of the Jeep, a smirk curved at the corner of his lips as he wiped the blood off of his jaw as if it was mere sweat.
"Five minutes—Five minutes is what it will take me to finish all of them," He laughed, endlessly taking the lives of those disgusting creatures without any mercy, just like they deserved, "Just watch! Fucking watch Vin—"
He couldn't finish what he was saying as a rogue jumped on him and bit down his shoulder.
Aaron stumbled and fell, putting me in a state of concern. I did not want anyone to die because of me. I had seen enough deaths in my life and I didn't wish to see anymore because...each time, it left me terrified; Heavy with regret.
However, fortunately, the rogues couldn't overpower him. Once again, my eyes were faced with the most brutal sights, and I basically saw the rogue's half body flying over to fall on the middle of the empty road and the other half, with the organs and shredded flesh hanging with it, hit against the window on my side.
I gasped, backing away to the other side of the seat. My heart spun, my breathing was getting shallower, my heart beat loudly against my chest and my eyes fell heavy. I could black out at any moment.
There was not even a whiff of air left in my lungs.
I did not feel safe. I wanted to escape this place but then again the thought of someone getting hurt and possibly killed because of me, would not let me move.
Moments passed and I was forced to watch the same game of blood and flesh.
Having no options left in my hands, I watched, I watched until there were only a few rogues left to be killed but till then Aaron was covered in injuries and deep wounds that he, himself, hadn't seemed to realise yet.
This was not going to end up well. He was seriously hurt.
"Athena...get out of the car," After all this time, this was when Julia decided to open her mouth.
I looked back at her, hesitating about what to do.
I did want to leave, but these two people who were here with me, because of the order of my mate, might die because of me.
"No, Athena. Just don't," I heard Aaron yell from the other side causing my head to whip around and look at him, "Just fucking listen to what I say."
"Athena! Get out of the car, I am here to take you away. You don't want yourself trapped with him again, trust me. I am here to help you!" Julia shouted louder, "Come on!"
"No! They are not here to help you!" Aaron tried to make his way to the car but those same rogues attacked him again, they were not going to give up until they were given a pitiful death.
Unable to hold myself together, stuck here and dealing with my conflicting notions anymore, I opened the door and got out of the damn car.
Enough was enough.
I just couldn't sit here and wait for everything to be finished by itself and wait until someone dies for no reason at all. I had to do something to stop this
