Married to the heartless Billionaire

Chapter 89. SHES AWAKE

Ch. 89 / 114 Sep 17, 2024

ADRIAN CASTILLO

I sat beside Sophia on the bed with tears in my eyes. It hurts seeing her this way and I wasn't here for her.

The doctor said it was typhoid and thankfully the symptoms were seen in the first week so it would be easier to cure her.

He assured me that she would be fine after taking antibiotics. The fact all of this started in the morning and I could only be by her side at night hurt me. Made me feel bad.

I still had some investigations to do. I was sure she wouldn't eat contaminated food or bad water intentionally. There are also symptoms but the doctor thinks that's the major cause of her case.

"I will be going now. I'd come back tomorrow to check on her," Annabella informed me, getting up from where she was seated while looking at Sophia.

"Thanks so much for the assistance. I cannot imagine what would have happened," I told her, sincerely grateful that she was by Sophia's side.

"You are welcome," she replied to me.

"It's an honor to see you in person," she said and I chuckled a little.

"My driver will drop you off at your hostel, it's late and I want to make sure you are safe," I told her.

"Thank you," she replied.

I called my driver to inform him.

"She will be alright," Jessica said beside me.

"Yes I know she will but I just feel so bad that I wasn't with her. I feel terrible that I wasn't with my phone at all," I told her.

I wasn't happy. Sophia must have been in pain and I wasn't here with her.

"It's going to be fine. I'm just going to excuse myself," Jessica said before walking away.

I watched as Sophia slept peacefully with my fingers intertwined with her.

"I'm so sorry baby," I whispered.

"I love you so much. Please get better for me," I told her.

*************

The next day Annabella came to the hospital after her classes as promised. I had cleared my schedule and asked my driver to get me some clothes at home so that I could get rid of my suit and the white button-down shirt to put on something casual.

"Hi," she waved at me before coming to see Sophia.

"Hi," I replied.

"How is she? Has she woken up yet?" She asked.

"The doctor said she will soon. I'm still waiting. It's still morning," I said, hoping that she wakes up soon because I needed to see her eyes.

Those beautiful eyes of hers y heart all of the time.

"Where is Jessica?" Annabella asked.

"She went back," I informed her.

"She went back?" She asked as if wanting to confirm and I nodded my head.

"Is there a problem?" I asked, sensing that she has something to say to me.

"I do not think it's necessary bringing this topic up but yesterday when I called, she answered your phone and told me that she informed me as soon as she reaches you."

I was taken aback by her words.

"Are you trying to say Jessica said that?" I asked and she nodded her head.

"Yes. That was why I stopped calling. She told me that you were busy and she wasn't with you but when she eventually us with you, she'd inform you," she informed me.

"She told me she didn't hear what you were saying on the phone and so that was why it skipped her mind to tell me that Sophia has been calling," I told her.

"Why did you leave your phone with her in the first place?" She asked me.

"I forgot my phone in the car and when I realized turns out it was with her and I couldn't leave the meeting and so I didn't bother since it was in safe hands. I had not bothered about my phone because I already told Sophia that I would be busy today and she won't be able to reach me. If I knew something like this would happen, I would have kept my phone with me," I explained.

"I see. Sophia was in so much pain. She kept crying and her body was very hot. I got scared," she revealed and I felt the knots in my stomach tighten.

Just thinking of how Sophia must have felt and the pain she went through hurt me.

"Thank you for being there with her. Jessica told me she didn't hear and so I do not know why she lied."

I was frantic about it. There was no reason for her to lie so why would she?

I felt Sophia's hand move in mine and my face lit up. "Sophia," I called.

She slowly opened her eyes and I waved to see if she could see me.

"My love," I called again.

She moaned in pain. "I..."

"Shh. Do not say a word. I'm here with you," I told her.

Seeing her awake made me happy. It felt as if I had just been gifted the best thing in the world.

"Thank goodness you are awake, I'd go call the doctor," Annabella said, running out of the hospital.

"My love," tears filled my eyes. It felt so good to see her eyes once again. I do not think I'd be able to live without this woman for more than an hour. I couldn't sleep. I was up, staring at her and praying that she wakes up.

"How are you feeling?" I asked inquisitively.

"I...I feel better...than before," she replied and I heaved a sigh of relief.

"The doctor is coming soon to check on you. The past twelve hours have been crazy. I'm glad you are awake," I told her.

"When did you come?" She asked.

"Last night. I'm so sorry I wasn't able to answer your phone call. I came immediately after I saw the missed calls. I'm so sorry my love. I will make it up to Iou," I assured her.

The doctor walked in that minute. He checked on her temperature and asked her a few questions before clearing her.

I felt a huge relief knowing that she was fine.

"I'm so glad you are fine. Can't wait to wrap my arms around you again," I told her.

"I'm so sorry for making you come all the way here," she apologized and I frowned.

"Why are you apologizing? You do not have to," I told her.

"I know. I know you are supposed to be busy this week and I got sick and so you are here. I just feel bad," she muttered.

"You are on crazy wife, you know that?" I chuckled.

I would choose her over and over again. How will I be able to work knowing that my wife is sick and she needed me by her side?

I will have to apologize for the sudden shift and change of schedule but I do not regret coming and being with Sophia instead.

"Do you expect me to be at work while my wife is sick? Do you know how nervous I was when I saw you and the doctor told me you had typhoid fever? Do not even complain because it would only make me angry," I told her.

"Thank you," she said.

"Do you have to thank me? You are my wife and anything to keep you safe is my top priority. I have to make you happy because that's the only way I'd be happy. I'm glad you are safe and sound," I told her.

"It's so nice seeing the both of you speak this way to one another. I never thought Adrian would be a lover boy," Annabella chuckled lightly and I chuckled too.

I had completely forgotten that she was present because my eyes were fixated on Sophia who I was glad to see awake again.

"Are you hungry?" I asked after some seconds.

"Yes," she replied.

"I will go get you food," I told her, getting up from the chair.

"Thank you," she said to me and I smiled at her in return. She never listens when someone tells her to stop telling me she was grateful all of the time.

Just as I was about to leave, Jessica came in.

"Oh she's awake," Jessica said, staring at Sophia.

Now that she was here, I wasn't sure if I should ask her why she lied. I know Annabella wouldn't just make up stories after all she doesn't know Jessica in person.

"Yes, she is," I answered her.

I noticed the frown that formed on Sophia's face when she saw Jessica. I have noticed that Sophia doesn't like him and I think it has to do with my past with Jessica.

She might not say much but I can read her. I can never leave her for Jessica and what I felt for Jessica then was only infatuation. It was nothing more than that.

"I got you to flower, though. As if I knew you'd be awake," Jessica said, walking closer to Sophia to give her the flowers.

Sophia collected it and muttered a small thank you to her.

I wouldn't want to leave Jessica with Sophia knowing hay Sophia doesn't like her and I do not want Sophia to be angry.

"I'm going out to get food, will you tag along?" I asked Jessica.

"That's great," she replied.

"Fine then, let's go," I told her before walking out and she followed behind me.

Should I ask her why she lied or should I let the matter die? I wasn't sure of what to do but I knew before the end of today, I'd know what to do.
