Love Me, Or Reject Me

Chapter 53 Theo's Threat

Ch. 53 / 120 Dec 11, 2024

Freya's POV

Over the next few days, I was in a rush to reach the theater and catch up. I needed to better prepare myself for life with the kids later on.

When I got home after finishing up, I fell asleep and woke up around noon the following day.

As the future godmother of the child, Novia had the day off and went grocery shopping to buy a variety of ingredients. She intended to prepare a delicious meal at home today for me.

Unlike my cooking skills, which haven't improved in the past few years, Novia's culinary skills are exceptional. Whenever she had some free time, she would cook delicious meals in different styles, and I would simply play a role in cleaning up and doing the dishes.

However, today, I woke up late, and Novia's meal was almost ready when I finally got up. While serving the meal, Novia casually asked me, "Is Kevin reliable?"

"He should be reliable," I replied, taking a bite of food when my cell phone suddenly vibrated. Kevin had sent over a picture.

I glanced at it and recognized the photo of Theo's former driver. Though he looked much older, that distinctive mole on his chin couldn't be mistaken.

I hastily replied, "Any progress?"

"Do you recognize this person?" Kevin asked.

"Yes, he's the former company driver," I answered.

Kevin didn't say another word. I asked two more questions, but the other party never responded to my messages; I guessed he had become busy again.

Back then, this driver was supposed to take me to school, but he had something come up, so my mother temporarily decided to drive me to school.

Kevin was inquiring about him; did this driver know something? Sure enough, it wasn't long before there was a new development.

He had found out the driver.

Six months after the car accident, this driver had quit his job and had been unemployed in his hometown ever since.

However, he somehow had the money to renovate his old house, and his family was relatively well-off in the area. Despite having no income, they seemed to have no shortage of funds to spend. This alone was intriguing.

With this driver in the mix, if we could extract some information from him, we might be able to follow the trail and uncover the truth.

I was delighted with this progress and promptly made the second payment.

I had just set my cell phone aside when another call came through.

I glanced at the caller ID and involuntarily furrowed my brow.

"Is something wrong?" I walked to the balcony and picked up the phone.

"Freya, you need to explain this court summons to me," Theo's voice sounded exasperated from the other end of the line.

Recently, Finley's side of the property division case has also been moving swiftly. It seemed that Theo's side had received the court summons today.

"I think it's pretty obvious, isn't it? Even though my mom has passed away, I still need to help her reclaim what belongs to her as her daughter."

Upon hearing my words, Theo cursed in anger, "You ungrateful child! I provided for you, and now you dare to rebel against me! I fed and clothed you, and now you dare to defy me!"

I ignored Theo's string of curses and said directly, "If you don't want this matter to affect your company's stock price, and if you want to settle it privately, you'll have to give back the things belong to my mother."

"On what grounds? This is my company that I worked so hard for. You think you can take it away from me? Dream on!"

Theo retorted coldly, "Do you really believe you can win a lawsuit with the little evidence you have?"

"I don't feel that way, but if you factor in things like your infidelity during your marriage with my mother and your involvement in planning my mother's car accident back then, it might not be so clear-cut."

"What are you saying?"

Theo didn't respond for a moment. After a pause, he lowered his voice and asked, "You conducted an investigation?"

Theo struggled to maintain his composure. "The vehicles involved that year have all been destroyed, and the police have already reached their conclusions. Even if you uncover something, without evidence, what else can you do?"

I laughed sardonically, "Is that so? There are no secrets that can remain hidden forever, Theo."

"Freya, are you so certain you'll win this case? Don't forget, you've separated from Kingsley. I know you hold a grudge against me because of what happened to your mother. But let me remind you that I'm still the Alpha of the Dark Moon Pack. Provoking me won't do you any good. I could even expel you from the pack. So if you're not afraid of becoming a Rogue, go ahead and try!"

After saying that, Theo hung up the phone.

Soon after, Theo's lawyer quickly contacted Finley. After the two parties conferred, the court date was rescheduled for next Monday.

Originally, it was set for a month later, but Theo's side filed an application with the court. After negotiations between the two sides, the court date was adjusted.

Upon hearing this news, I felt perplexed. Considering Theo's character, he would likely try to delay the lawsuit. I even thought he might not bother to attend court in person, opting to let his lawyer handle everything.

I didn't expect him to agree so readily. Was he confident about this lawsuit?

My heart inexplicably began to fill with apprehension.

Monday arrived swiftly. Finley picked me up in his car, and Novia had the day off, so she decided to accompany me.

When we reached the courthouse, there wasn't much of a crowd at the entrance. Novia asked Finley, "What are the chances of winning this case?"

Finley parked the car and replied, "The chances of winning are still very high. Theo's previous distribution of shares was clearly problematic. When the company was founded, a significant portion of the startup capital came from Livia. Even if Theo transferred Livia's shares to his own name through unconventional means, any documents signed by Livia while she was incapacitated may not be legally binding."

Novia was rightfully outraged, saying, "Theo is shameless. Finley, you must help Freya win this case."

Finley smiled and assured her, "I'll certainly do my best. After all, Freya is my boss now." He looked at me with gentle eyes.

I chuckled softly, saying, "Don't make fun of me."
