Love Me, Or Reject Me

Chapter 45 Henry's Invitation

Ch. 45 / 120 Dec 11, 2024

Freya's POV

Leaving Kingsley's place, tears welled up in my eyes as I drove along the road, making it difficult to see ahead. I had to pull over and let the emotions out. My heart ached, and I looked around, feeling lost.

Eventually, after collecting myself, I decided to go back to Novia's place.

I hadn't eaten all day, so Novia cooked me some food. I didn't have much of an appetite, but I didn't want to disappoint my friend, so I managed to eat half of it.

Novia whispered, "Freya, are you okay?"

"Yeah, I'm fine. Don't worry," I replied with a forced smile, trying to hide the pain in my heart.

When I had rejected Kingsley earlier, I had felt pain, but now I felt a sense of relief, as if I had broken free from the shackles that had been holding me back.

Just then, my phone rang. I glanced at the caller ID and was surprised to see that it was Henry Quinn, the Alpha of the Moonlight Pack.

I answered, "Hello!"

Henry warmly greeted me, "Freya, I heard you're rejected Kingsley and left his pack."

I flinched, feeling surprised about how quickly the news had spread. "Yes," I replied softly.

"No offense, but I just wanted to ask, what are your plans from here?"

I lowered my gaze, one hand instinctively touching my belly. "I don't have any plans at the moment."

So much had happened in the past few days that I hadn't had time to process it all. I couldn't help but worry about the life growing inside me.

It seemed that reality was pushing me forward, forcing me to prepare for motherhood sooner than I had expected.

"Would you be interested in signing with Quinn Media?" Henry suddenly offered in a warm tone.

I was taken aback by Henry's unexpected invitation. I hesitated before replying, "I'm sorry, Alpha Henry, if you're doing this out of gratitude because I once helped Charlie, you don't have to. I appreciate your kindness."

Henry smiled, "It's not just about that, Freya. I trust my instincts, and I believe you won't let me down. Plus, one must always plan for the future." Henry paused. "I know that you have a lawsuit to fight and you'll be in need of a significant amount of money in the future."

I pursed my lips in thought. Henry was right; I did need to prepare more considerable resources for the future. I absentmindedly rubbed my belly as I contemplated.

"Let's meet tomorrow to discuss the contract," I said.

Henry agreed, "No problem. My assistant will go pick you up at nine tomorrow morning."

The next day, as I stepped out the door, I spotted a car parked nearby. Henry's Beta, Danny, got out of the car and held the door open for me.

I got into the car after adjusting my seat, and it roared to life before speeding away.

Soon, we arrived at Quinn Media's office building. I followed Danny into Henry's office, where I found Henry seated behind his desk in a suit, wearing a welcoming smile.

"Freya, please have a seat." Henry interlocked his hands on the desk as he spoke to me.

I pulled out a chair and positioned it across from him. Danny then handed me the pre-prepared contract.

"Please take a look at it, and we can discuss any conditions you're not satisfied with."

I accepted the contract and started flipping through its pages.

The terms offered by Quinn Media were remarkably favorable.

Although I had not signed a company myself, I had more or less heard of the situation of the brokerage company.

I paid close attention to the breach of contract clause.

Quinn Media didn't prohibit actors from taking on additional roles, as long as it didn't interfere with the company's work. They would only receive 20% of the pay for such roles.

This contract seemed exceedingly fair, almost to the point where I wondered if Henry had a hidden agenda.

I glanced at his cheerful expression and pursed my lips.

"What's bothering you?" Henry inquired. "Feel free to mention anything you're unhappy with; everything is open for negotiation."

I remained silent for a moment and then replied, "I don't appreciate any hidden rules."

"Hmm?" Henry seemed a bit perplexed but quickly realized what I was talking about. He responded with a smile, "Don't worry, I signed you just because your abilities."

As I observed his serious demeanor, it became clear that I had misunderstood his intentions. I took a deep breath and, feeling a bit embarrassed, said, "I misunderstood, my apologies."

"No problem," Henry reassured me. "So, any questions about the contract?"

I replied, "No, it's just that I've already hired an assistant who helps with various tasks on set. She's experienced in the industry, and if possible, I'd like her to continue in that role."

"That's perfectly fine; I'll arrange it," Henry said.

Relieved, I added, "I don't have any other questions."

Henry smiled and said, "Then let's proceed with the signing."

After signing the contract and escorting me to the door, Henry suddenly asked, "Freya, are you available this weekend?"

I nodded and replied, "Yes?"

Henry smiled, saying, "My father is back. He heard about the charity party and how you saved Charlie in the restroom. He'd like to invite you for a meal."

I thought about it for a while and finally agreed.

As I was leaving Quinn Media, Henry called out to me, "Freya, remember the physical assessment tomorrow."

For some reason, I felt that his expression was a bit peculiar when he said that, but I didn't dwell on it, just nodded and left.

Upon exiting Quinn Media, I received an unexpected call from the hospital, informing me that there was a file of my mother left for me to pick up.

I drove to the hospital and obtained the file.

I opened the file bag and unexpectedly found it was a copy of Livia's medical records from the dean.

Livia had experienced postpartum depression after giving birth to me, and coupled with her unhappy marriage to Theo, her condition had been fluctuating.

She had spent nearly six months in the hospital before gradually returning to normal.

As I perused the medical records, it became evident when Livia had last been seen at the hospital, which was five months prior to the accident. During this visit, the assessment indicated that Livia's condition was normal, and the doctor had discontinued her medication.

My brow furrowed upon reading this. If the doctor had taken my mother off her medication five months before the car accident, how had the antidepressants ended up in the car?

I closed my eyes and tried to recall the moments leading up to the car accident.

Although I had been wearing headphones and couldn't hear whom Livia was talking to on the phone at that time, her tone hadn't seemed significantly different from her usual self.

Furthermore, at the time of the accident, my mother instinctively shielded me to the left, resulting in my minor injuries. I also remembered her reminding me to wear my seatbelt, yet the investigation had claimed she wasn't wearing hers.

Was this truly an accident, or had it been a deliberate act?

My heart sank at the thought.
