Bound By Blood

Chapter 64

Ch. 64 / 100 Jun 22, 2025

The air in Blackthorn Manor felt heavier, weighted with unspoken tension and the presence of Elias, whose charm and cunning had begun to unravel the fragile unity among the brothers. Ella could feel it through the bond—a constant undercurrent of jealousy, mistrust, and unrelenting desire that left her chest tight and her thoughts in disarray.

Lucien sat at the long library table, surrounded by a clutter of ancient scrolls and worn tomes. His brow furrowed as he examined an intricately inscribed page from an old journal he’d unearthed in the family archives. His discovery sent a chill through the room as he looked up, his eyes sharp behind his glasses.

“This,” Lucien began, holding up the aged parchment, “isn’t just about Elias. It’s about his mother.”

Adrian and Vincent, both standing nearby, exchanged tense glances. Sebastian leaned casually against the wall, though his usual charm was muted by unease. Ella, seated at the edge of the table, felt her heart skip as Lucien’s tone darkened.

“She wasn’t simply disowned for practicing blood magic,” Lucien continued. “She attempted to bind the de Vallière bloodline to herself through an ancient and forbidden ritual—one that would have made her the true head of the family.”

Adrian’s icy-blue eyes narrowed, his fists clenching. “And now her son is here, claiming what she could not.”

Lucien nodded grimly. “If Elias is following in her footsteps, we’re facing more than a power grab. He could destroy the blood bond—or worse.”

Ella’s pulse quickened as she absorbed the implications. The bond, already unstable, pulsed faintly, echoing the brothers’ rising tension. She pressed her hand to her chest, willing it to calm.

Later that day, Ella found herself alone in the manor’s east wing, a place she rarely ventured. The scent of roses lingered faintly in the air, but the space was otherwise still. She turned a corner and stopped short, finding Elias seated at a sunlit table, his hands folded elegantly over an ancient grimoire.

“Ella,” he greeted, his voice as smooth as silk. “I was hoping you’d wander this way.”

Her instinct was to turn and leave, but something about his presence rooted her in place. His dark eyes gleamed as he gestured to the seat across from him. “Come, sit. I want to show you something.”

Reluctantly, she moved closer, taking the chair he offered. The grimoire’s pages were filled with blood-red script, pulsing faintly as if alive. Elias leaned forward, his voice lowering conspiratorially.

“Do you know what this is?” he asked, his fingers brushing the edge of the page. “This is the power your bloodline holds. The magic that flows through you. Let me teach you how to wield it.”

Ella hesitated, her heart pounding. “Why would you show me this?”

“Because you deserve to understand the truth,” Elias said, his tone earnest. “The brothers won’t tell you. They’ll keep you caged, a tool for their survival. But this magic? It’s yours. It belongs to you.”

He placed her hand on the page, guiding her fingers to trace a delicate symbol. The bond throbbed faintly as she followed his movements, and when the symbol glowed under her touch, a wave of power surged through her. It was intoxicating, sharp and heady, leaving her breathless.

“Do you feel it?” Elias whispered. “This is only the beginning.”

But the moment was broken by the sound of footsteps. Ella snatched her hand away, her pulse racing as Adrian appeared in the doorway, his expression stormy.

“Leave,” Adrian said, his voice low and threatening as his gaze locked onto Elias.

Elias rose smoothly, his smile unbothered. “Of course. I wouldn’t dream of overstaying my welcome.”

His parting glance lingered on Ella, sending a shiver down her spine. When he was gone, Adrian turned to her, his anger barely restrained.

“What the hell were you thinking?” he demanded. “Do you have any idea what he’s doing to you?”

Ella stood, her own frustration flaring. “He was teaching me something. Something you’ve all kept from me.”

“For a reason,” Adrian snapped. “You can’t trust him, Ella. He’s dangerous.”

“Maybe I don’t know who I can trust anymore,” she shot back, her voice trembling. “You’re all keeping secrets. How am I supposed to believe anything you say?”

Adrian’s eyes darkened, and he closed the distance between them in two swift strides. The bond surged violently, a storm of anger, jealousy, and something deeper swirling between them.

“You want to know the truth?” he said, his voice a low growl. “I can’t stand the way he looks at you. The way he tries to pull you away from us. From me.”

Before she could respond, he grabbed her shoulders, his touch firm but not painful. His gaze burned into hers, and then his lips crushed against hers, fierce and unrelenting. The kiss was a collision of their emotions, a desperate attempt to claim and be claimed.

Ella’s resistance crumbled as she clung to him, her fingers tangling in his shirt. The bond pulsed wildly, carrying their shared intensity, their fears and desires intertwined. Adrian’s hands moved to her waist, pulling her closer as if he could fuse them together.

“Adrian,” she gasped when they broke apart, her forehead resting against his.

His voice softened, the anger in his tone replaced by raw vulnerability. “Don’t let him take you from me. Please.”

Her heart ached at the plea in his words, and she pressed a hand to his cheek, grounding them both. “I’m not going anywhere,” she whispered.

But even as she said it, the echoes of Elias’s words lingered in her mind, a shadow she couldn’t quite shake.

That night, Ella sat by the fire in the library, Sebastian’s voice pulling her from her thoughts.

“You’re too quiet,” he said, his tone light but probing.

She glanced up at him, his golden eyes thoughtful as he perched on the armrest of her chair. “I’m just tired,” she replied.

Sebastian studied her for a moment, then said, “Elias is clever, but clever men are always hiding something. I’m starting to wonder what game he’s really playing.”
