Bound By Blood

Chapter 76

Ch. 76 / 100 Jun 22, 2025

The oppressive atmosphere of Cain’s sanctuary had settled over Ella like a weight she couldn’t shake. The bond, once a source of comfort and connection, now felt like a shackle. Every pulse was a reminder of the ever-growing tension between her and the brothers. And Cain’s whispered doubts lingered in her mind like poison.

Sitting in the conservatory, surrounded by moonlight filtering through the stained-glass windows, Ella felt the strain deep in her chest. Was the love the brothers professed for her real, or was it just the bond manipulating their emotions? Cain’s words replayed in her head:

“Do you truly believe their devotion is genuine? The bond amplifies everything—desire, protectiveness, jealousy. Strip it away, and what would remain?”

She shivered, her arms wrapped around herself as she stared at her reflection in the glass. The woman staring back looked tired, uncertain. The echoes of the bond, filled with worry and frustration, only worsened her unease. She pulled away from the connection, withdrawing emotionally as the doubts threatened to consume her.

In the laboratory, the tension between the brothers was palpable. Adrian leaned against a table, his arms crossed, his icy-blue eyes flicking toward Ella’s empty chair.

“She’s been distant,” he muttered, his voice tight with frustration. “Cain’s words are getting to her.”

Vincent, seated nearby, exhaled sharply. “Can you blame her? We’ve asked so much of her without giving her the space to process any of it.”

Adrian’s jaw tightened. “She needs to stay grounded. The bond is unstable enough without her pulling away.”

Sebastian, pacing near the shelves of blood vials, shot Adrian a sharp look. “And how do you suggest we ‘keep her grounded,’ oh fearless leader? Lock her in a room? Force her to trust us?”

Adrian’s glare was sharp enough to cut steel. “I’m trying to protect her.”

Sebastian threw up his hands. “And yet your ‘protection’ is smothering her.”

The argument was cut short by a sudden, violent reaction in the laboratory. One of Cain’s experimental apparatuses exploded with a sharp crack, sending shards of glass flying. The bond surged violently, flooding with pain and panic that left all three brothers clutching their chests.

Lucien rushed in, his face pale. “What the hell happened?”

“Another one of Cain’s ‘controlled tests,’” Sebastian muttered, his tone bitter as he gestured to the shattered equipment. “She’s playing with fire, and we’re the ones getting burned.”

Lucien’s gaze swept over the chaos before settling on the brothers. “This isn’t just an experiment. The bond is reacting to something deeper. If we don’t get control of this, it could destroy all of us.”

Ella was in her room when Vincent found her. The gentle knock at her door barely registered until he stepped inside, his presence a quiet balm against the storm raging in her mind.

“Ella,” he said softly, his dark eyes scanning her pale face. “You’ve been shutting us out.”

She didn’t meet his gaze. “I need time to think.”

He crossed the room, kneeling before her chair. “I get it. This... everything... it’s overwhelming. But you don’t have to go through it alone.”

Ella’s shoulders sagged as his words cracked through the walls she’d been building. “It’s not just overwhelming, Vincent. It’s confusing. I don’t know what’s real anymore.”

Vincent reached out, his hand covering hers. “What’s real is how I feel about you. Bond or no bond, that hasn’t changed.”

The sincerity in his voice made her look up, her gray eyes searching his. “But how do you know? How can you be sure it’s not the bond manipulating everything?”

“Because I’ve felt this way since the moment I met you,” he said, his voice steady. “Before the bond had a chance to take hold.”

The bond pulsed faintly, carrying his quiet devotion directly to her. She leaned into him, her forehead resting against his as her emotions surged. “Vincent, I—”

Whatever she was about to say was cut off as his lips found hers, the kiss tender at first but quickly deepening as the bond flared between them. His hands slid to her waist, pulling her closer as he poured everything he couldn’t say into the kiss.

Ella’s hands clutched at his shirt, anchoring herself to him as her doubts began to waver. The world outside faded away, leaving only the heat between them, the connection that felt so undeniably real in that moment.

A blaring alarm shattered the moment, echoing through the sanctuary like a scream. Vincent broke away, his breath ragged as he rose to his feet.

“Stay here,” he said urgently, his hand brushing against her cheek before he turned toward the door.

“Vincent, wait—” Ella began, but he was already gone.

The bond flared with tension as she felt the brothers converging toward the source of the alarm. Ella stood, her heart racing as unease settled in her chest. Cain’s whispers returned, faint but insidious:

“Run while you can, child. The bond will only bring ruin.”
