Bound By Blood

Chapter 82

Ch. 82 / 100 Jun 22, 2025

The Crimson Court’s mansion loomed ahead, a sprawling fortress of dark stone and gleaming obsidian. Crimson banners fluttered in the cold night wind, emblazoned with a sigil that seemed to pulse faintly in the dim moonlight. Crystal chandeliers hanging in the towering archways dripped blood-red light onto the sprawling cobblestone courtyard below. Ella’s heart raced as she stepped out of the carriage, the bond with the brothers humming faintly with their tension.

The air was heavy, suffused with the metallic tang of blood and the faint perfume of crushed roses. Masked figures swirled through the courtyard, their laughter carrying a dangerous edge. Ella adjusted the crimson mask over her face, its delicate lace and jeweled embellishments a sharp contrast to the foreboding atmosphere.

Adrian was the first to descend from the carriage, his icy-blue eyes scanning the crowd with a predator’s precision. Vincent followed closely, his dark gaze fixed on Ella as though silently vowing to shield her from whatever dangers lurked within the mansion’s walls. Sebastian exited last, his usual smirk subdued but his golden eyes gleaming with an edge of anticipation.

“Stay close,” Adrian instructed, his voice low and commanding. “And don’t speak to anyone unless absolutely necessary.”

Ella nodded, her fingers brushing the edge of her mask as she fought to steady her breathing. She felt Vincent’s hand at the small of her back, a quiet reassurance that sent a pulse of warmth through the bond.

The mansion’s grand doors opened with an eerie creak, revealing a great hall bathed in crimson light. The walls were adorned with dark tapestries depicting ancient vampire battles, and the floor was polished to a mirror shine, reflecting the flickering glow of chandeliers above. Guests milled about, their laughter a sinister undertone to the orchestral music that filled the space.

At the center of it all stood Lady Selene Caine. Her gown was a masterpiece of dark elegance, flowing like liquid shadow, and her mask—a twisted creation of silver and black—revealed sharp, glittering eyes. She moved toward them with a serpent’s grace, her taloned fingers trailing along the banister as she descended the grand staircase.

“Adrian de Vallière,” Selene purred, her voice like silk over steel. Her gaze shifted to Ella, and a slow, predatory smile spread across her lips. “And you must be the blood jewel I’ve heard so much about.”

Before Ella could respond, Selene’s hand shot out, her talons lightly grazing Ella’s throat. The contact was cold, unnerving. “Exquisite,” Selene murmured. “Such potential lies within you.”

Adrian stepped forward, his magic crackling faintly in the air. “Remove your hand,” he said, his voice dangerously low.

Selene laughed, a sound that echoed through the hall. “Such protectiveness,” she teased, withdrawing her hand but letting her gaze linger on Ella. “Come, de Vallière family. Let us celebrate this rare evening.”

The ballroom was a dazzling display of opulence and decadence. Masked guests danced beneath the crystal chandeliers, their movements precise and elegant. Shadows seemed to slither along the edges of the room, and whispers carried on the air like unseen phantoms.

Adrian held out his hand to Ella, his jaw tight as he met her gaze. “The first dance is mine.”

She hesitated but nodded, allowing him to lead her onto the marble floor. The orchestra struck up a hauntingly beautiful waltz, and Adrian pulled her close, his hand firm at her waist as they moved in perfect synchrony.

“Keep your guard up,” he murmured, his voice low enough that only she could hear. “Selene’s eyes are everywhere, and she’s already marked you.”

“I can handle myself,” Ella replied, though her voice lacked conviction.

Adrian’s hand tightened slightly at her waist, and the bond pulsed with his frustration and protectiveness. “You don’t understand what you’re dealing with here. They see you as a prize to be claimed, not a person.”

Their movements quickened as the music swelled, the tension between them palpable. Ella felt the heat of his breath against her ear as he leaned in closer.

“Promise me,” Adrian said, his voice softer now. “Promise me you’ll stay close tonight.”

Ella met his gaze, her resolve hardening. “I promise.”

The waltz ended, and Adrian reluctantly released her, his icy-blue eyes lingering on her face as he escorted her back to the edge of the ballroom. Vincent was waiting, his dark eyes scanning the room like a hawk.

“Something’s not right,” Vincent said quietly as Adrian approached. “There are masked figures watching her every move.”

“Elias is here,” Adrian said, his jaw clenching. “I can feel it.”

The air shifted, a chill sweeping through the ballroom. Ella turned, her gaze locking onto a figure standing near the grand staircase. He wore a midnight blue mask adorned with silver filigree, and his presence seemed to suck the light from the room.

Elias.

The bond flared violently, transmitting the brothers’ emotions in a dizzying rush—Adrian’s rage, Vincent’s unease, Sebastian’s wariness. Ella’s heart pounded as Elias’s gaze locked onto hers, a slow smile spreading across his lips.

“Ella,” he said, his voice carrying despite the noise of the ballroom. He moved toward her with the confidence of a predator, his every step measured and deliberate.

Before he could reach her, Vincent stepped between them, his dark eyes blazing. “Not another step,” he said, his voice low and menacing.

Elias’s smile widened, and he inclined his head mockingly. “Always the watchdog, aren’t you, Vincent?” His gaze flicked to Ella, and she felt a shiver run down her spine. “We’ll talk soon, my dear. There’s much to discuss.”

With that, Elias melted back into the crowd, leaving a palpable tension in his wake. Ella felt Vincent’s hand on her arm, steadying her as she tried to catch her breath.

“He won’t touch you,” Vincent said, his voice firm. “Not while I’m here.”
