Bound By Blood

Chapter 75

Ch. 75 / 100 Jun 22, 2025

The air in the music room was heavy with an unspoken tension, the faint melody of an abandoned tune lingering in the air. Ella stood by the grand piano, her fingers brushing the cool ivory keys. The haunting stillness of Cain’s sanctuary had seeped into her bones, leaving her restless. The bond pulsed faintly, an erratic rhythm that mirrored her growing unease.

The door creaked open, and Ella turned to see Sebastian standing in the doorway. His golden eyes, usually warm and teasing, were shadowed with a mixture of frustration and something darker. Without a word, he stepped inside, closing the door behind him. The click of the latch echoed in the room like a gunshot.

“You’ve been avoiding me,” he said, his voice low but sharp.

Ella frowned, her fingers stilling on the keys. “I haven’t—”

“Yes, you have,” Sebastian interrupted, his tone harsh. He crossed the room in a few swift strides, stopping just inches from her. His presence was overwhelming, the bond flaring with his emotions—fear, jealousy, and a desperate longing. “Don’t lie to me, Ella.”

“I’m not lying,” she said, her voice trembling under the weight of his intensity. “There’s just... so much happening.”

His jaw tightened, and he reached out, his hands resting on either side of her against the piano. She was effectively trapped, her back pressing against the cool wood as Sebastian loomed over her.

“I can’t lose you,” he said, his voice cracking. “Not to Adrian, not to Vincent, and certainly not to her.”

“Sebastian...” Ella’s voice softened as she saw the vulnerability in his eyes, a rare glimpse beneath the charm and wit he so often used as a shield. “You’re not going to lose me.”

He shook his head, leaning closer until their foreheads almost touched. “You don’t understand. You’re the only thing keeping me from falling apart. Every time I see you with them, every time the bond surges... I feel like I’m drowning.”

The bond pulsed violently, and Ella gasped as his emotions washed over her—raw and unfiltered. Without thinking, she placed her hands on his chest, feeling the rapid thrum of his heartbeat beneath her palms.

“I feel it too,” she admitted, her voice barely above a whisper.

Sebastian froze, his golden eyes searching hers. For a moment, the tension between them shifted, softening into something electric and undeniable. He leaned in, his lips brushing against hers in a tentative kiss that quickly deepened, the bond flaring with shared heat and desire. His hands slid to her waist, pulling her closer as if trying to fuse their very beings together.

Ella’s breath hitched as she melted into him, her fingers tangling in his hair. The kiss was both a confession and a plea, a desperate attempt to anchor themselves amidst the chaos.

Hours later, the sanctuary’s oppressive air seemed to grow heavier. Cain’s experiments had left the bond fluctuating wildly, its erratic pulses sending waves of discomfort through Ella and the brothers. The sanctuary itself seemed to hum with dark energy, the walls vibrating faintly as if alive.

Lucien stood in the corner of the laboratory, his expression grim as he examined a series of documents spread across a blood-stained table. “This isn’t just about the bond,” he said, his voice cutting through the tension. “Cain’s connection to the de Vallière family runs far deeper than we thought.”

Adrian, standing near Ella, folded his arms tightly across his chest. “What are you saying, Lucien?”

Lucien gestured to a faded journal. “Cain was part of a secret coven that worked with our ancestors centuries ago. They experimented with forbidden blood magic, pushing the boundaries of what was possible—and ethical.”

“And what does that have to do with Ella?” Vincent asked, his voice sharp as he moved to stand beside her.

Lucien’s gaze flicked to Ella, his expression unreadable. “Cain’s coven believed that a bloodline like hers—rare and untainted—was the key to creating a new form of magic. They wanted to break the natural order, fusing human and vampire bloodlines to create something... extraordinary.”

Ella felt a chill run down her spine. “And what happened to them?”

Lucien’s lips pressed into a thin line. “They were betrayed. Most were executed, but Cain escaped, taking their research with her.”

As the words sank in, the bond pulsed erratically, sending a jolt of pain through Ella’s chest. She stumbled, clutching at the piano for support. The brothers rushed to her side, their emotions colliding in the bond—Adrian’s protectiveness, Vincent’s concern, Sebastian’s fear.

“Ella?” Adrian’s voice was sharp as he caught her by the shoulders. “What’s wrong?”

Before she could respond, her vision blurred. Flashes of crimson light filled her mind, accompanied by the scent of blood and the sound of distant chanting. She saw Cain standing in a circle of runes, her hands dripping with blood as she performed a ritual. Figures loomed in the shadows, their faces obscured, but their presence was unmistakably sinister.

The vision ended as abruptly as it began, leaving Ella gasping for air. “She’s trying to show me something,” she whispered, her voice shaking.

Adrian’s grip on her tightened. “What did you see?”

“Blood rituals,” Ella said, her gaze unfocused. “And shadows. So many shadows.”

The room fell silent, the weight of her words pressing down on them like a shroud. The bond pulsed faintly, a fragile connection amidst the storm brewing around them.

Cain’s voice echoed from the doorway, her tone both amused and unsettling. “Ah, you’re beginning to understand,” she said, stepping into the room with a knowing smile. “But this is only the beginning, my dear. The truth you seek lies in the blood.”
