Bound By Blood

Chapter 57

Ch. 57 / 100 Jun 22, 2025

Adrian’s breath came in sharp, measured bursts as he stood before yet another spectral barrier, the translucent energy shimmering with malevolent intent. It pulsed, a living wall of Eloise’s magic, daring him to push through. His icy-blue eyes burned with a mix of fury and determination as he raised his hands, the crackling energy of his own power coalescing at his fingertips.

“I will not stop,” he growled, his voice echoing in the crypt’s narrow corridor.

With a guttural shout, Adrian unleashed his magic. The force struck the barrier like a hammer against glass, shattering it into thousands of shimmering fragments that dissolved into the air. But the victory was short-lived—another barrier immediately materialized, its dark energy swirling and pulsing, mocking his efforts.

Through the bond, he felt Ella’s fear, her distress cutting through him like a blade. Vincent’s presence near her was a faint warmth, but it only served to fuel Adrian’s jealousy and his burning need to protect her. His magic surged again, more forceful this time, and the barrier cracked under the onslaught.

“You won’t keep me from her!” Adrian roared, his power exploding outward.

The crypt trembled under the force of his attack, the walls groaning as shadows coiled and hissed, reluctant to release their hold. Sweat slicked Adrian’s brow, but he pressed forward, shattering barrier after barrier, his steps unyielding. Eloise’s laughter echoed around him, cold and taunting, each note a reminder of her growing power.

“You’re too late, Adrian,” her disembodied voice sang. “She’s already mine.”

Adrian’s jaw clenched, his fury boiling over. “Never,” he spat, breaking through the final barrier with a ferocious blast of energy.

The air beyond the last barrier was colder, sharp as knives against his skin. Adrian stepped into a vast chamber, his boots crunching on frost-covered stone. Torches along the walls flickered weakly, their light barely illuminating the space. At the chamber’s center was a pedestal holding a pendant that pulsed with dark, rhythmic energy—the bloodstone.

Around the edges of the chamber, mirrors lined the walls, their surfaces warped and shimmering like pools of mercury. As Adrian moved closer, he caught glimpses of his reflection, but something was wrong. The mirrors didn’t show him as he was—they showed twisted, fractured versions of himself. In one, his face was contorted with grief; in another, his eyes burned with a feral, unrecognizable rage.

The others were already there, standing frozen as they gazed into the mirrors. Ella was at the center, her arms wrapped around herself, her gray eyes wide with horror. Adrian hurried to her side, gripping her shoulders.

“Ella,” he said, his voice softer now but still tinged with urgency. “Look at me.”

She tore her gaze from the nearest mirror, her breath hitching as she focused on him. “Adrian… these mirrors… they’re showing us things. Horrible things.”

Adrian glanced at the reflection she had been staring at and felt a chill crawl up his spine. It was a version of Ella, but not the one he knew. This Ella was draped in a gown of deep crimson silk, her eyes glowing with a predatory light. She stood atop a pile of lifeless bodies, her lips curved into a cruel smile, blood staining her hands.

“It’s not real,” Adrian said firmly, pulling her closer. “Whatever you’re seeing, it’s Eloise’s magic trying to break you.”

Vincent’s voice cut through the tense silence. “These mirrors… they’re a trap. She’s using them to feed off our fears and regrets.”

Sebastian stood by one of the mirrors, his usual charm stripped away, replaced with an expression of raw torment. “She’s clever,” he muttered, his golden eyes flickering with pain. “But we’ve come too far to let her win.”

“Stay close,” Adrian commanded, his voice sharp. His icy-blue eyes scanned the chamber, taking in every detail. The bond pulsed faintly between them, a fragile thread that seemed to flicker with the instability of their surroundings.

At the chamber’s center stood a pedestal, and atop it rested the bloodstone pendant. Its surface pulsed with a dark, malevolent energy, casting faint crimson light that illuminated the room in eerie flashes. Ella felt a pull toward it, her chest tightening as if the pendant itself was calling to her.

“That’s it,” Lucien murmured, his tone grim. “The source of her tether. The bloodstone is what keeps Eloise bound to this manor.”

Sebastian stepped closer to the pedestal, his golden eyes narrowing. “Does anyone else feel like this is too easy?” he asked, his voice laced with suspicion.

Before anyone could respond, the air in the chamber dropped to a freezing chill. Frost crept along the walls, spreading from the mirrors and crawling across the floor. Ella’s breath fogged in front of her, and a shiver ran down her spine as a familiar scent filled the air—roses and blood.

“She’s here,” Vincent said, his voice low, his hand tightening around the hilt of his dagger.

The mirrors darkened, the twisted reflections vanishing as shadows swirled within their glassy surfaces. Then, one by one, the mirrors began to shatter, fragments falling like jagged shards of ice. The sound was deafening, reverberating through the crypt like a scream.

From the darkness, Eloise emerged.

Her form was both beautiful and terrible, her translucent figure shimmering with frost. Her eyes glowed like frozen embers, and her lips curved into a smile that dripped with malice. Her gown, made of ice and shadow, flowed around her like a living thing, and her presence was suffused with power and vengeance.

“Welcome,” Eloise said, her voice smooth and chilling. “You’ve come so far, and yet you’ve learned so little.”

Ella felt the bond surge violently as Eloise’s gaze fixed on her. The spirit’s expression softened for a moment, almost tender, before hardening into something cruel. “So like me,” she murmured. “A doll made of flesh, bound by blood and love. But love… love is a lie.”

Before Ella could respond, Eloise raised her hand, and a wave of frost-filled magic struck Ella like a hammer. The world around her spun, and when it settled, she was no longer in the crypt. She stood in a desolate courtyard, surrounded by flickering torches and cold, unyielding stone.

It was night, and a chill hung in the air. Before her, Eloise knelt, bound in chains. Her once-radiant form was broken, her body trembling with pain. The de Vallière brothers stood in a semi-circle around her, their faces shadowed, their expressions unreadable. Adrian stood at the forefront, his icy-blue eyes cold and resolute.

“Please,” Eloise whispered, her voice hoarse. “You are my family. I only wanted what was mine.”

Adrian’s expression didn’t waver as he spoke. “You betrayed us, Eloise. You used forbidden magic. You jeopardized everything.”

Sebastian’s voice echoed, sharper and bitter. “And you didn’t care about the cost. You didn’t care who you hurt.”

Eloise’s gaze flicked to Raphael, who looked away, his shoulders trembling. “Raphael…” she said softly, her voice breaking. “You were my twin. You understand.”

Raphael didn’t respond, his silence cutting deeper than words.

Adrian stepped forward, a blade in his hand. The bloodstone pendant hung from Eloise’s neck, its pulsing light matching the erratic beat of Ella’s heart. “Your soul is cursed,” Adrian said, his voice heavy with finality. “And now, it must be severed from us.”

“No!” Ella screamed, but the vision continued, unyielding. She felt Eloise’s terror, her betrayal, her rage—and then, her pain as Adrian’s blade descended, severing the bloodstone pendant from her neck. Eloise’s scream pierced the air as her body dissolved into frost and shadow, her spirit ripped from its mortal shell.

Ella fell to her knees as the vision faded, her body wracked with shivers. She was back in the crypt, the bond thrumming violently as Eloise’s voice filled the chamber.

“Do you see now?” the ghost hissed, her voice echoing from every direction. “Do you see what your precious family is capable of? They will betray you, as they betrayed me. And when they do, you will curse their names, as I curse them still.”

The bond pulsed erratically, each thread fraying under the weight of Eloise’s words. Adrian’s rage burned like fire, Vincent’s guilt seeped into Ella’s veins, and Sebastian’s fear clawed at her heart. The connection between them twisted, threatening to snap.

“Enough!” Adrian roared, his magic flaring as he stepped toward Eloise. “You’ve tormented us long enough!”

Eloise turned her gaze to him, her expression cold. “You cannot kill what is already dead, Adrian,” she said, her tone mocking. “But you can suffer. And you will.”

The chamber shuddered violently, cracks forming in the marble as Eloise unleashed another wave of magic. Ella’s vision blurred, her strength waning as the bond threatened to consume her.

Through the chaos, Vincent reached for her, his dark eyes filled with determination. “Stay with me,” he said, his voice steady. His touch grounded her, the bond stabilizing slightly as his presence wrapped around her like a shield.

“We need to destroy the bloodstone,” Lucien shouted, his voice barely audible over the roaring magic. “It’s the only way!”

Eloise laughed, her form shimmering as she dissolved into frost and shadow. “You think it will be that simple?” she whispered, her voice lingering like a ghostly caress. “The bloodstone is mine. Come and claim it… if you dare.”
