Bound By Blood

Chapter 86

Ch. 86 / 100 Jun 22, 2025

The grand hall of the Crimson Court’s mansion pulsed with life and danger. The flickering red light of crystal chandeliers bathed the ballroom in an almost otherworldly glow, casting elongated shadows that danced across the gilded walls. The air was thick with the mingling scents of roses and blood, an intoxicating haze that seemed to press down on the senses. Laughter rang out, sharp and brittle, underscored by the haunting strains of an orchestra hidden behind a wall of sheer black silk.

Ella stood near the edge of the ballroom, her eyes scanning the crowd for Adrian, Vincent, or Sebastian. The bond hummed faintly in her chest, a lifeline of connection that kept her grounded amidst the chaos. Yet, even the bond couldn’t dispel the nagging unease that had settled in her gut since entering this place.

Lady Selene ascended a raised dais at the far end of the hall, her flowing crimson gown trailing like spilled blood behind her. Her taloned fingers tapped against the silver goblet in her hand as she surveyed the room with a predator’s smile. When she spoke, her voice carried effortlessly over the music, rich and commanding.

“Honored guests,” she purred, “tonight, we present a performance unlike any other—a dance of devotion, of passion, and of power.”

The music shifted, the haunting melody swelling into something more urgent, more primal. A ripple of anticipation ran through the crowd as masked dancers emerged from the shadows, their movements fluid and mesmerizing. Their costumes shimmered with dark jewels, and their faces were obscured by elaborate masks that gave them an almost ethereal quality.

Ella’s heart quickened as the dancers began to weave through the room, their steps perfectly synchronized. They moved with an uncanny grace, their formation tightening as they approached her. The bond pulsed sharply, a warning that made her blood run cold.

“Ella,” Adrian’s voice came through the bond, laced with alarm. “Stay where you are. I’m coming.”

But before she could respond, the dancers encircled her, their movements deliberate as they closed ranks. The bond surged with Adrian’s protective fury, but she couldn’t see him through the sea of masks and swirling fabric.

“Adrian!” she called out, her voice barely audible over the music.

The lead dancer extended a hand toward her, their fingers tipped with delicate, claw-like adornments. Ella stepped back instinctively, her heart pounding in her chest. The bond flared again, Vincent’s worry and Sebastian’s tension crashing into her like waves. She tried to push through the circle, but the dancers were unyielding, their movements herding her toward the center of the ballroom.

The crowd parted as if on cue, and Elias stepped into view, his midnight-blue mask glinting under the blood-red light. His presence was magnetic, his movements predatory as he crossed the space between them. The dancers melted away, leaving Ella exposed under the weight of his gaze.

“Ella,” he said, his voice smooth and intimate, as if they were the only two people in the room. “You’ve always been the star of this performance, whether you knew it or not.”

She tried to step back, but his hand caught hers, his grip firm yet deceptively gentle. The bond surged violently, Adrian’s fury searing through it like wildfire. Vincent’s protectiveness and Sebastian’s conflict added to the chaos, leaving Ella’s head spinning.

“Let her go,” Adrian’s voice rang out, cutting through the music like a blade. He pushed through the crowd, his icy-blue eyes blazing with barely contained rage. Vincent was close behind, his expression dark and dangerous.

Elias didn’t release her. Instead, he raised her hand to his lips, pressing a lingering kiss to her knuckles. The contact sent a jolt through the bond, a sickening mixture of possessiveness and unease.

“Your brothers are always so dramatic,” Elias murmured, his voice low enough for only Ella to hear. “Do they not trust you to make your own choices?”

“They’re trying to protect me,” Ella said, her voice steady despite the fear clawing at her chest. “Something you wouldn’t understand.”

Elias chuckled, a dark, rich sound that sent shivers down her spine. “Oh, but I do understand. Protection often comes with chains, does it not? I offer you freedom, Ella. Freedom from them, from the bond, from everything that keeps you tethered.”

The bond throbbed painfully, Adrian’s anger cresting like a wave. “Ella!” he called again, his magic sparking in the air around him as he finally broke through the crowd.

Elias’s grip tightened on her hand, his eyes gleaming with challenge as he turned to face Adrian. “Such devotion,” he said, his tone mocking. “It’s almost admirable, if not entirely misplaced.”

Adrian didn’t hesitate. His magic surged forward, a blast of icy energy aimed directly at Elias. But Elias was faster, pulling Ella into his arms and twisting them out of the way. The attack struck the marble floor, leaving a web of frost in its wake.

“Enough!” Lady Selene’s voice cracked like a whip, silencing the music and freezing the room in place. She descended from the dais, her crimson gown flowing like liquid fire. “This is a celebration, not a battlefield.”

Elias smirked, releasing Ella but keeping her close enough to feel the heat of his presence. “Forgive me, Lady Selene. It seems emotions are running high tonight.”

Adrian took a step forward, his fists clenched, but Vincent placed a hand on his shoulder, pulling him back. “Not here,” Vincent said quietly. “This isn’t the place.”

Ella’s pulse raced as she looked between the brothers and Elias, the tension in the room so thick it was suffocating. The bond pulsed erratically, its conflicting emotions leaving her dizzy and disoriented.

Lady Selene’s gaze flicked to Ella, her smile sharp and knowing. “Come, my dear,” she said, extending a hand. “Let us ensure you are properly attended to.”

Ella hesitated, but a gentle nudge from Vincent urged her forward. She followed Lady Selene, glancing back only once to see Adrian and Elias locked in a silent battle of wills, their magic crackling faintly in the charged air.
