Bound By Blood

Chapter 62

Ch. 62 / 100 Jun 22, 2025

The library was cloaked in silence, broken only by the soft crackle of the fire in the hearth. Ella sat curled in one of the leather armchairs, a book open on her lap, though her eyes barely skimmed the words. The events of the previous night lingered like a shadow in her mind. The rose of black ice still felt like a chill on her skin, its meaning as sharp as its edges.

The door creaked open behind her, and she stiffened. Before she could turn, a voice like velvet poured into the room.

“Ah, the esteemed lady of Blackthorn Manor, seeking solace among the pages.”

Ella froze. She didn’t need to look to know who it was. Elias’s presence filled the space, dark and commanding, the scent of roses and blood wafting in with him. She forced herself to sit straighter, her fingers gripping the edge of her book.

“What do you want?” she asked, her voice steady despite the pulse of the bond stirring unease through her.

Elias stepped into view, his sharp features illuminated by the firelight. His smile was polite, cultured, but there was something predatory in his crimson eyes. “Only a moment of your time, my dear,” he said, his tone warm but with an edge that set her nerves on edge. “I believe we haven’t had the chance to speak properly.”

Ella didn’t respond, her gray eyes locking onto his with quiet defiance.

He chuckled softly, as if amused by her resistance, and moved closer. “You have questions, don’t you? About the bond. About your bloodline. About the prophecy that binds you to this place and to them.”

Her heart skipped a beat, but she kept her expression neutral. “And you have answers?”

“Perhaps.” Elias leaned against the edge of the table, his movements graceful. “Did Adrian tell you about your lineage? About the power you hold?”

Ella narrowed her eyes, her grip on the book tightening. “What do you know?”

Elias’s smile deepened, his voice lowering as if sharing a secret meant only for her. “Your blood is more than what binds you to them. It is a key—a source of strength the de Vallière family has never fully understood. They see you as a savior, but you could be so much more. With the right guidance.”

He took a step closer, his presence overwhelming. “You could stand above them, Ella. Not beside them. Above. Imagine the power, the freedom.”

Before she could respond, the door to the library slammed open, and Vincent strode in, his dark eyes blazing. The bond surged violently, carrying Vincent’s protective fury as his gaze landed on Elias.

“Step away from her,” Vincent growled, his voice low and dangerous.

Elias turned slowly, his smile undisturbed. “Ah, Vincent. Always so quick to defend. One might think you don’t trust me.”

“I don’t,” Vincent snapped, moving between Ella and Elias with a protective stance. “And I don’t need to.”

The tension crackled like a live wire as the two vampires faced off. Elias’s charm remained intact, but there was a flicker of something darker beneath his polished exterior.

“Protective as always,” Elias said, his tone mocking. “But tell me, Vincent, do you guard her out of duty, or is it something… deeper?”

Vincent’s jaw clenched, and the bond pulsed sharply, his emotions colliding with Ella’s in a storm of fury and devotion. “You don’t belong here,” he said coldly. “Whatever you’re trying to do, it ends now.”

Elias raised an eyebrow, unfazed. “Oh, I think you’ll find I belong more than you realize.” His gaze shifted back to Ella, his fingers brushing her cheek before Vincent could react. “Think about what I said, my dear.”

Vincent’s magic surged, crackling in the air as he grabbed Elias by the arm and shoved him back. “Touch her again, and you’ll regret it.”

Elias’s smirk faltered, his crimson eyes narrowing as he stepped back. “How charming,” he said, straightening his coat. “This conversation isn’t over.”

He exited the room with a flourish, leaving behind the faint scent of roses and tension so thick it was suffocating.

Ella placed a hand on Vincent’s arm, her voice soft. “Thank you.”

Vincent’s gaze softened as he looked at her. “He won’t hurt you,” he promised, his voice firm but carrying a gentleness that eased the turmoil in her chest.

Dinner that evening was no less tense. The brothers sat around the long table, their expressions a mix of frustration and unease. Elias entered last, his presence casting a shadow over the room as he took a seat uninvited. The weight of the blood bond was palpable, amplifying the emotions swirling around the table.

Adrian’s icy-blue gaze fixed on Elias, his voice cutting through the silence. “You’ve made your claims. Now state your purpose.”

Elias leaned back in his chair, his smile slow and deliberate. “My purpose is simple: to take my rightful place. Your leadership is… lacking, Adrian. The family needs someone with vision, someone willing to adapt to the changing times.”

Sebastian raised an eyebrow, his golden eyes gleaming with interest. “And you think you’re that someone?”

Elias’s gaze flicked to Sebastian, his smile deepening. “I know I am.”

Adrian slammed his hand on the table, the sound echoing through the room. “You have no place here.”

“And yet here I am,” Elias countered smoothly. “The question is, Adrian, can you hold onto what you claim to rule?”

The bond surged again, carrying Adrian’s fury and Ella’s unease as the tension reached a breaking point. She could feel Sebastian’s intrigue, Vincent’s quiet fury, and Raphael’s guarded concern.

As the meal ended, Ella excused herself, her chest tight with the weight of the evening’s events. Returning to her room, she was greeted by an unwelcome sight.

Resting on her pillow was another rose of black ice, its edges glinting like obsidian in the candlelight.

Elias’s card, a reminder that his presence was far from over.
