Just when Anya had finally calmed and cleared her heart out, she received a call that almost stumbled upon her world once again. It was her grandmother’s doctor saying her Nana’s condition had worsened again! Anya immediately dropped everything and rushed to the hospital.
When she arrived, she went straight to her Nana’s room and caught up with the doctor who is also inside her room doing check ups. When the doctor saw Anya, he adjusted his spectacles and invited Anya to his office.
Anya looked at her grand mother, and when she saw she was sleeping, she acquiesced with the doctor and went out with him to his office.
“Doctor, how is my Grandma?” Anya asked the moment she sat on the seat. The doctor looked at her and showed Anya her grandmother’s medical result. He explained patiently and in full details her Nana’s full condition.
Anna went out of the Doctor's room after they talked about her grandmother's condition. And she had not walked that far when she stopped in her tracks. Well, she just saw her sister appear in front of her, approaching. Anya’s face stiffened at Anna’s presence.
Anna stopped in front of Anya.
“May I ask you why you’re here?” Anya asked with raised eyebrows. As far as she remembered, this relative of hers had just betrayed her face-to-face. Anya wondered how she got the guts to even show her face in front of her.
“I am here to meet Grandma, why?” Anna asked and crossed her arms in front of her chest.
“You’re not allowed to. What are you planning?” Anya narrowed her eyes as she scrutinized Anna’s intention.
“What do you care? Are you the only one who has the right to meet Grandma? I am her granddaughter too!” Anna retorted as she walked past Anya. But before she could step further away, Anya grabbed her arms.
“I know what you are doing. Do you really plan to kill Nana out of a heart attack? If you say you’re her granddaughter then what kind of granddaughter are you?” Anya said heavily to Anna. The latter was pulled back by a strong force and was quite taken aback, so she just stared at Anya squarely.
“And technically, I am the only one who could visit her. Patients like Nana have controlled visitors, and only the family registered in the medical records can approach her. So if you don’t want me to call the guards and throw you out of here, then do not dare.” Anya said with a warning in her tone.
Anna’s face turned red and she angrily shook her arm out of Anya’s hold.
“This is what I hate about you. Because it is always you, always you!” She angrily exclaimed.
“I have always been jealous of you. And it makes me frustrated because I shouldn’t. why should I? I am better than you and I shouldn’t wish that I was you! And we are even from the same father! But why could you experience the life of lavish and young miss in the Davids!” Anna angrily exclaimed.
Since they were young, Anna always felt Anya was inferior to her. She was weaker and less charming than her. But she was able to live like a rich relative of the Davids.
“That’s why I strived my way to the walls of the Davids. To prove you are no better than me. And look, just a little seduction but I was able to make him betray you. How does that feel, dear sister?” Anna said with a sinister smile as she laughed evilly.
Anya pursed her lips and glared intensely at Anna.
Back when she was still a child, and during that time, just like how a normal child would think, she thought Anna was the reason why her mother and father had an estranged relationship. So, she never really had a good feeling for Anna.
And when the time she had matured and realized that it was not Anna’s fault since she was also a victim, Anna was already vile and hostile against her. That is why the two sisters don’t have good feelings towards each other until now. And with the extent of Anna’s betrayal and disrespect to her, Anya feels that she could never treat her as a family ever.
“You could do whatever you want. I don’t care. I and Andrei had divorced, and I had already filed a certificate. Nana knows this already, so whatever schadenfreude you are planning, is useless now. Why don’t you just fix your life and we shouldn’t bother with each other’s life.” Anya said dismissively. Anna was quite surprised by what she said. But turned her back to leave.
“Sister!” Anna called, but Anya did not respond to her anymore. She continued leaving Anna, out of sight, out of mind.
Before she left to buy food, Anya dropped by the nurse’s quarter and requested to give a close eye on her grandmother’s room. She ordered that they don’t let anyone visit and enter her room, even if they claim they are family.
The nurse acquiesced since it is needed too, as the patient is on medication and in procedure to prepare for surgery.
When Anya had assurance from the nurse that they would implement this protocol strictly, she left the hospital at ease.
She went to the supermarket to buy the fruits and supplemental drinks first, then she left for a take-out restaurant to buy their dinner.
After all these, she went back to the hospital with her hands full. She was oblivious that someone was staring at her, and this certain man’s heartstrings and mind were stirred.
Damon sat in his car and gazed at the woman walking in the street. She had plastic bags in her hands, but she had look on her face that she could handle it and have everything under control.
It was quite a while since he last saw her, and Damon didn’t feel that he needs to see her, not until now. Because looking at her, he felt something stir inside him.
Damon watched Anya until she took a cab, and it drove away. The man was left in the car with nothing but disappointment. And within the depth of his eyes spills quite a sense of longing.
