Andrei was sitting in his office, going through some documents. He was so busy because the deal with Luke’s company was still not closed, and the support he was
expecting was yet to arrive. He was starting to get pissed when his phone rang. He looked at the caller’s ID and saw it was Luke, he quickly picked it up.
“Mr. Luke, I have been waiting for your call. I hope you have good news?” Andrei tried to calm down and make his voice amiable as he answered the call.
“I called to break the contract.” These were the only short words by Luke. Andrei was surprised and quickly straightened in his seat.
“What? Luke, this is certainly not what we talked about,” Andrei gritted his teeth as he gripped his phone hard.
“It is. That is why I am breaking off the contract. You almost pulled me into the mud with you. Tss.” Luke said as he quickly hung up the phone. Andrei cursed as he heard the beeping sound on the other line.
Before he could even be mad, a knock came from the door, and he gave his permission without raising his head. His secretary came in with reports in her hands.
“Sir, reports from the Castellanos Group of Companies have arrived,” She announced as she placed the documents on Andrei’s table.
When Andrei heard this, he knew it was urgent as it is one of his most important clients. He gradually calmed down as he remembered he had this big shot in his side. He scoffed. Who needs that useless Luke? He quickly picked up the reports to read.
Yet, what was presented to him made him stunned. The report said that there was something wrong with the goods he had just sent. They are returning all the goods and are asking for compensation. When Andrei saw the amount of the compensation, he was so stunned and immediately stood up.
“I will be heading to the Castellanos right now. Make preparations.” He ordered his secretary, and he immediately went on his way. He was walking briskly and was busy with his phone. He was asking for reports about the goods and was scheduling a meeting with the manufacturers and managers about this issue. With all that, he arrived outside, and a black car stopped right in front of him. He immediately went in, and the car drove off on its way to the Castellanos Group of Companies.
“What the hell is going on?! I received a report from the Castellanos that there was something wrong with the goods! What’s the department doing?!” He was scolding his men and managers on the way. After a moment, the car arrived at the tall and magnificent building of the Castellanos Group of Company.
As he arrived and took in the imposing building, he was once again reminded of the power and influence of the Castellanos. Something surged in his heart. someday, he would be holding this kind of power and lead the business world. He’ll make sure it wouldn’t take long for it to happen.
He went into the building and took the elevator to the floor of the president, according to the information from his secretary.
Not long, he arrived at the floor of the president and was directly led to the secretary’s table.
“Good morning, sir, do you have an appointment?” The secretary asked politely.
“I am from the Davids Group of companies. I have something to discuss with the president.” He answered. The secretary glanced at him and checked something in her computer. After that, she raised her head and showed an apology look.
“I am sorry, sir. Mr. Castellano does not have any schedule with you today.” She answered. Andrei immediately frowned, obviously displeased.
“But this is an urgent matter.” He said impatiently. The secretary once again apologized to him.
“You can just make an appointment, sir. And I would pass it to the president for him to make room and decide for a meeting.” She explained. Andrei sighed as he saw it was hopeless to meet with Mr. Castellano right now. He ordered his secretary to make the necessary arrangement for an appointment with the president and he walked out without bidding goodbye.
When he went to the elevator, it opened, and a woman came out of it. They glanced and walked past each other. Two people who would be accomplices in the future just met for the first time.
“President, Mr. Davids already left,” Damon’s secretary informed him as he was going through the documents. When he heard it, he smirked and dismissed him. The moment his secretary left, he stopped writing and leaned back in his swivel chair. He pondered for a moment.
After Damon watched Anya go out of the hotel, he asked for his men to watch over her as he headed to his company. He immediately orchestrated a lesson for Mr. Andrei Davids. He did not expect that doing this would give him so much satisfaction.
He remembered the report earlier saying Anya had gotten home safe. His thought once again flowed to the woman. Remembering her delicate and crying face, he felt what he did to the Davids was just right. It was not enough, actually. He will certainly not let him off.
No one bullies the mother of my child.
Anya read the contents of the email. It was offering a good position for her in their company. She was startled. Such a prestigious company, why would they directly offer her a job? But this doubt did not last long as she was very happy and excited. She now completely felt that their shopping and makeover were worth it and timely. She immediately replied and sent them her CV. After that, she forced herself to calm her excitement as she had something she needed to face today.
Her Grandma.
After a short rest, she tidied up and prepared to leave. Then she went out of the apartment. She dropped by the supermarket to by fruits, as well as food for her Nana in a restaurant. Carrying all of these, she went on her way to the hospital.
When she arrived at Nana’s room, the old woman was watching TV. When she saw Anya, she was delighted and immediately greeted.
“Dear, you’re here!”
“Nana.” Anya smiled gently and went to greet her Grandma.
“I bought delicious food. Are you hungry?” She said as she opened the food she had bought. The grandma saw this and was happy.
“Oh just in time. I was already tired of the rations here. So dry and meh!” she exclaimed. Anya was happy seeing her Grandma’s cheerfulness. The both of them ate peacefully and talked about each other’s day.
After the meal, Anya was cutting fruits as she prepared how she would drop the bomb to her Nana.
“Dear Anya, you look more beautiful and blooming today. Did something good happen?” Nana noticed. Anya once again felt thankful that she made herself presentable today for her Nana’s ease.
“Nana, I have something to say to you,” Anya said carefully. She doesn’t know what and how much she should say to her Nana. She is in a tight situation. If she told her everything, then she would be worried to death. But if not, she might be mad at her. She was a big believer in the sanctity and unbreakable bond of the sacrament of matrimony.
“Me and Andrei’s relationship, honestly, is not doing well. I have been going through hard times because of this.” She said honestly. She glanced at her Nana. The old woman stiffened, but she kept quiet and just stared at Anya. Anya took this opportunity to continue.
“I look better now because I am feeling free. I had let go of all my feelings for him. I feel liberty, and I could now breathe.” When Anya was saying this, it was only at this moment that she actually felt so. She realized how much stress and pain her marriage caused her. And now, letting go and breaking free from all of this felt refreshing and liberating. She felt she was now starting anew.
“So Nana, I am planning on divorcing Andrei.” She finally said as she looked at her grandma straight in her eyes. When the old woman saw this, she felt tears welling in her heart. Anya was startled and immediately tried to appease and comfort her grandma. She patted her on the back and held her. But before she could even say anything, her grandma already spoke.
“Dear, I am happy for you.” She said that made Anya surprised. Little did she know that her Nana knew something was bothering her, giving her hardships all these times. But she did not know it was actually Andrei.
But hearing this and looking at her appearance, she felt proud of how strong her granddaughter had become. To choose herself and to stand up for herself.
“Nana knows that you have been suffering for a while now. But I did not know it was Andrei. All this time, I am telling you to keep your relationship strong was because I depend on him to take care of you. Because I will not be able to watch over you forever.” Grandma said tearfully.
Anya, who heard this, also felt tears well in her eyes. “Nana, don’t say that.” She said stubbornly.
“I always remind you to take care of your marriage because I know how hard it is to live with an unhappy marriage. So, while it is early, one should keep and make one’s relationship strong. But I also know, more than anything else, is how hard it is to endure a broken relationship. So, if I knew you were already unhappy, then I wouldn’t have forced you to stay. Darling, I am proud of you to stand up let go of it. All I want is for you to be happy.” Grandma said.
The tears that Anya was holding in finally fell. She hugged her Grandma, and they cried in each other’s arms for a while. Anya worried about Nana’s illness, so she calmed her down.
After that, Grandma asked her about her life.
“It’s just that both of us are busy now, and we are not in each other’s page. We’re having a hard time understanding each other, so I think it is best to part ways.” Anya explained. Even though Grandma felt it was a little vague, it was not her right to pry in her granddaughter’s life so she accepted and reminded her to always take care of herself.
“Why did you only tell me this now?” Grandma asked, a little disappointed.
“Because I know it will break your heart. And it was not just long ago that your illness relapsed. I don’t want to add your burden.” Anya tried to appease her.
“I am not that sensitive now! Next time, if you have troubles, you need to tell me. Don’t keep it to yourself.” Grandma retorted strictly. Anya smiled and promised her. They
talked more for a while and when the nurse came for her Grandma’s medicine and announced it was time for her to rest, Anya bid goodbye to her Nana.
When she came out of the hospital, the cool breeze of the wind brushed her face. She took a deep breath and looked up at the sky. She felt a huge burden lifted in her heart. She smiled happily as she felt she was maneuvering her life back on track.
And this time, she promised she would be happy. Her happiness will come first, and she would do her best and strive to be someone who is worthy and strong.
She started walking. In the street, Anya was walking with a pretty dress, her skin was white and her body was slender. Her face was supple and fair, and a pretty smile was plastered on her beautiful face. Little did she know someone was watching and appreciating her beauty.
Damon was inside his car looking at the beautiful woman who was completely different from when he last saw her. She had a smile in her face, though not that big, she felt calm and more alive. When she smiles, her dimples show at the sides of her cheeks and her blue eyes would glint delicately.
She was beautiful and young. Although he always knew and even the people around him that his son completely looked like him, but seeing her right now, he could also see the shadow and face of her son.
Damon saw this, and he had a weird impulse.
An impulse to see her smile more. An impulse to do things just to see her smile.
