Anya was in her apartment that day. The sun was up and bright, spilling golden rays from the window. It was a sunny day, very good and happy weather. But what Anya received was otherwise.
Unknown:
I agree with the divorce. Come to the company at exactly 10:00 am.
This message was what welcomed Anya as she opened her phone. It was from an unknown number since she had deleted his number long ago. But, from the countless days and nights trying to call and reach him, she could recite and memorize his number even with her eyes closed. Also, only he could have a topic like this with her.
This was certainly from her husband, Andrei. So, he finally agreed to the divorce.
Anya does not know, but she fellow a stone dropped in her heart. And now it became empty and hollow. Even if she hated and despised him and finally promised she would forget and cut him off from her life. This person was still the one she loved the most. Who was once her husband whom she loved deeply?
She pondered and let her heart grieve for a moment. To the day when she would finally let all of it go.
But she quickly tried to let herself calm down. She was afraid Andrei would change his mind, so she needed to settle this down as soon as possible.
Thinking this far, she pushed herself to get ready. She chose a suitable outfit to wear. Since it was a formal meeting, not anymore an intimate talk and time with that man, she chose to wear formal clothes.
She wore a cream slacks that hugged her legs just fine. She paired it with a white midriff tank top and covered it with a suit coat in the same color as her slacks. She slipped on a pair of beige stilettos and stood up in front of her big mirror. When she was satisfied with her outfit, she went to work on her face and hair.
She sat in front of her vanity and stared at her face. She despised the sad and depressing look she had and pushed herself that she should not feel this way. So she strived to make her face more lively by putting a fresh make-up. After that, she put her hair into a low ponytail. She once again looked at herself in the mirror. She looked clean and elegant. Her face brightened a bit despite her feelings, so she settled for this and grabbed a white handbag, and she was ready to go.
She left her apartment and took a cab to the Davids Group of Company. During the drive, she looked outside the window to cheer her thoughts. The lively and sunny road and city lightened her mood a bit. She needs a lot of breathers because she knows a stressful event awaits her. She doesn’t expect Andrei would divorce her peacefully and with a clean heart.
When she arrived, she got out of the cab and paid. The car left, and she was left looking up at the tall building. This company was once her home. She sacrificed a lot for the sake of company which his husband cherished, and she cherished it, too, in return. But her last memories here were happy ones. And now, she would settle things with the boss of this domain and, finally, will walk out for good.
She hoped she would never have to go here again after this settlement.
She went into the building after a moment of thought. The people and employees there recognized her, and she received a lot of gazes. She does not know what their look means, and she also doesn’t bother to think so.
She went in the elevator in the elevator go to Andrei’s office. When she got to the right floor, and before she could head her way to Andrei’s office, Ellen was outside. She looked like she was waiting for her.
“The tramp finally showed up.” The old woman spoke with acid and mocking in her voice. She wore a red dress and shoes with that elite aura she had, standing there as if to give a verdict to Anya. She had red lipstick on and a sinister smile on her lips.
Anya cried silently in her mind. She never liked this grandmother of Andrei’s.
“I had your trash collected; you shouldn’t leave this hanging around here. Since you would be finally leaving this company for good. Finally,” she said as she breathed a sigh of relief. Anya only stared at her and stared at the boxes on the floor. Some were really from her, but the things were mixed with trash and garbage.
Ellen smirked as she saw Anya eyeing her things.
“Finally getting rid of parasites here, the company would gain its fortune once again. It makes me feel at ease.” She spoke with a loud voice. Enough for everyone around them to here.
She approached Anya and stopped in front of her. Her eyes became even nastier as she saw the glow on the woman’s face and the healthy and beautiful rosy blush staining her cheeks. She looks even better than before. Is it the perks of being a mistress of someone powerful?
Ellen scoffed in disdain.
“Don’t be happy for too long. Men like that, they don’t settle for a cheap and lost girl. Sooner or later, he would also throw you away in the dirt. And when that happens, don’t you dare come to our Davids family for help. We are not fond of giving alms,” She said as she laughed haughtily.
Anya doesn’t quite get her words, but she knew she was talking ill and nonsense. So doesn’t pay it any mind and just looks straight into her eyes.
“I would talk and settle with Andrei now. I will leave quickly, don’t worry. I am also as disgusted and dreadful as you for needing to stand here again. “Anya said with a cold voice. After that, she brushed past Ellen and headed toward Andrei’s office.
Ellen was fuming mad with Anya’s arrogance as she turned and stared daggers at her receding back. She sneered and crossed her arms and threw curses at her in her mind.
When Anya arrived at Andrei’s door, she opened it directly without permission. She saw the man behind the desk, with documents in his hands. Andrei immediately raised his head to look at Anya.
His eyes darkened as he took up her look. She looked more beautiful than the last time he saw her. Thinking of her being raised by another man filled his heart with boiling anger.
“I am here to sign the documents. Let’s settle it quickly.” Anya said with a cold voice. She stared at Andrei’s face and looked away when she felt a slight discomfort in her heart. No. She does not want to feel bad.
“You are really great, huh? I underestimated your skill to seduce people.” Andrei said as he stood up from his seat and walked in front of his table.
“Was it fun? Playing around with a rich and powerful man? How many of them used you? I guess you used and exhausted your skill for him to use his influence like this?” He mocked as he leaned back on the table and crossed his arms.
Anya wrinkled her eyebrows at his words. She aggressively let out her breath. She was getting tired of this insulting escapade.
“Are you just going to insult me this whole meeting? Because I am getting tired of it, just let’s just quickly sign and settle the papers.” She said exasperatedly.
“Oh, you are in a hurry? Hurry to go and jump on that man’s golden thigh? What a tramp you are, huh? Does he have good skills? Or does the number of men matters? You like to be screwed with countless of man?” He said with acid in his voice as he approached Anya. He had a smile, yet not a smile on his face.
Anya saw this and stepped back.
“What are you saying? What do you want to hear from me? Whatever I say, you wouldn’t even believe it! You don’t listen to me at all! So let’s stop this game because I am so sick of it!” Anya exclaimed. Andrei grabbed her arms and shook her.
“Don’t think I would let you go that easily for making a fool out of me. If not only for your man pushing me into a tight situation, I wouldn’t give you this luxury to escape. I would get back at you, mark my words.” He said in between his gritted teeth. Anya’s arm started to hurt, and she stared unbelievably at the red-eyed man in front of her.
“Let me go!” She said as she tried to retrieve her arm.
“Oh, wait. I guess I don’t need so much effort. Later on, when he got sick of you, he would just throw you in the street. Don’t think you have succeeded in latching on a rich man’s thigh. Men like him would never be satisfied and stick to one woman. Much or less like you. Who is already loose and used.” He said mockingly with a sinister smile.
“Who are you talking about? A powerful man? If I have, then I shouldn’t be here accepting all your insults!” She retorted back.
“You still think I am blind and stupid? You are hooking up with Damon Castellano! How did you do it, huh? I wonder how you whored your way up to him.” Andrei insulted.
Anya was stunned by his words. What does he mean? She doesn’t even know this guy. But his name does ring a bell. When she pondered, she remembered the job offer she got just a few days ago. Was it from him, Damon Castellano?
Andrei stared at the changing face of Anya, and when he saw a look of realization in her, he scoffed.
“What? You didn’t think I would know?” He said as he tightened his grasp on her arm.
Anya hissed with the pain, and when she couldn’t take it no longer, she stepped on Andrei’s foot with her high heels and pushed him away.
“Get away from me!” She screamed in the process.
Andrei was pained and was pushed back because of it. He became even angrier.
“You bitch-“ He screamed but was cut off when the door of his office was opened. Ellen went in and saw the two people’s situation. She hurriedly slammed the door and huffed.
“What the hell is going on here? Why are you still delaying things?!” The old woman exclaimed as she eyed Andrei.
“Don’t be crazy and be fooled by this worthless woman! Don’t you remember what is at stake here!” She faced Andrei and scolded him.
Andrei’s jaw moved as he gritted his teeth and looked away with clenched hands. Ellen then moved her gaze to Anya.
“And you, you don’t have any remorse, do you? Still seducing and making your way to Andrei in this time and in broad daylight!” She threw insults at Anya.
Anya was gasping from anger and her eyes moved from Andrei and Ellen. The thorns in her life. She bit her lips to restrain herself and said in an angry voice.
“Hand me the papers. Let’s sign and end this now.” She stared intensely and in disdain at Andrei, never baking down. The soon-to-be-divorced couple stared at each other intently, one can feel the tension in the air.
Ellen saw this and pushed, trying to pull Andrei out of his nonsense thoughts. “Andrei!” She exclaimed.
Andrei heard this and once again gritted his teeth. And finally, with reluctance, he took the divorce papers and signed them.
After that, Ellen rushed to him to get the papers. She took a pen and pushed it into Anya’s hand.
“Sign.” She said stiffly as she showed Anya the papers.
Anya looked down at the divorce documents. And without a second thought, she signed all of them. after she was done, she closed the cap and stared squarely at Ellen.
After watching Anya sign the papers successfully, Ellen sighed and smiled triumphally.
“I would pass these, I am afraid you would cheat us. Being the desperate woman you are.”
Anya should be the one who was supposed to be afraid, as she glanced at Andrei. But after this dog and cat fight, she was getting tired and suffocated staying in this place. Anyhow, she would just seek Marie’s help and validate the divorce agreement.
Anya gave the two one last look before she turned her back and left willingly. But Ellen called back.
“Collect your trash there.” She said, not forgetting to mock and embarrass her.
Anya was at the door, and her hands were already on the knob, and she stopped to respond.
“Yes they are trash, but trash I made from the company. The company should do that much for their employees.” She said without turning her back she finally opened the door and left.
The smile on Ellen’s lips disappeared as she failed to give a final blow to Anya. But before she could retort, Anya had slammed the door shut.
Anya went out of the building with a heavy heart. But when she came out and was greeted by the lovely street and bright sunny weather, she finally remembered the fruit of today’s suffering.
She was finally free.
She just walked. She walked and walked, away from the company, away from Ellen, away from Andrei, away from insults and pain, away from everything.
When she was finally far from the company, she felt she could finally breathe. She breathed a sigh of relief.
Anya felt liberated by the thought she had finally let go of that toxic relationship. Her became lighter, and her brain started to clear. When she was regained her senses, she saw that she was in the very same park she had rested that day. When she received that cotton candy.
She smiled. The first ever smile she did this day. When her thoughts drifted back to the cotton candy, that simple thing and sweet comforted her that day. She roamed her eyes and saw a vendor that sells cotton candy not far. She went to it and looked at the ones his selling. It seems he was the vendor of the cotton candy she had eaten.
“Can I buy one?” She asked nicely to the vendor. He looked at her and saw it was a young and beautiful lady. He also smiled.
“Sure, pretty lady. I will give you the prettiest one.” He answered as he worked to make the sweets. Anya’s smile deepened.
When the vendor was done, she gave it to Anya. She paid for it and looked at it closely. Then she took a big bite. The sweetness burst and melted in her mouth, and her eyes squinted in delight.
Looks like she has a new favorite.
