Tabitha's POV
My days in the secluded house were simple and peaceful.
I was busy carving wood when Joanna suddenly shut off her phone, looking super pissed while mumbling under her breath.
"What's got you all grumpy over there?" I shot her a glance.
She hurriedly looked up, replying, "Nothing! Just don't check your phone these days. It's all a bunch of trash news."
I chuckled, "Are you referring to the news about his wedding?"
"You heard about it already?"
"The whole internet was abuzz with it, so yeah."
Joanna carefully studied my expression. "So you're not angry? Last month, when Alpha Derek postponed the wedding, I thought he was doing it for you."
"Angry? Why would I? Being angry means I still love him. Love will make me get insecure, jealous, paranoid, possessive, and even lose my mind. Why should I do that?
"Plus, we've already rejected each other. Even though he's my second chance mate, I don't wanna accept him."
I put down my knife and picked up the little thing I carved—a cute little dog.
"What do you think?" To me, Derek didn't matter as much as this thing in my hand.
Joanna nodded in awe. "Your skills are pretty solid! You could give those old woodworkers a run for their money."
I chuckled, shaking my head, "You are honey-tongued. It's just barely passable. I should practice more."
As we were chatting away, Rolf, who hadn't been here for a long time, suddenly showed up.
The smile on my face vanished the moment I noticed him.
Rolf awkwardly touched his nose, saying, "Well, Tabitha, Alpha Derek wants to have a word with you."
I stood up immediately. "Perfect timing. I need to talk to him too."
I had this nagging feeling about the father of the baby Lillian used to carry. Something felt off about it all.
Maybe there was a hidden mastermind behind everything, and it was impossible for me to uncover it solely relying on my own abilities.
At least on this issue, Derek and I were on the same page.
Rolf seemed somewhat surprised that I would agree so easily.
After heaving a sigh of relief, he said, "Alright then, Tabitha. Come with me."
I followed him into the car, only to find Derek wasn't inside.
I closed my eyes to rest, not uttering a word. An eerie silence filled the air.
Even Rolf, who was usually talkative, didn't know what to say. After a long time, he slowly tried to bring up a topic. "Tabitha, don't pay attention to those trash news. The truth is, you're the one Alpha Derek loves all along. Marrying Miss Sutton is just something he has to do. You saw it yourself. Besides Alpha Justin, she's the only one in the Amber's Eye Pack."
I impatiently cut him off. "Who he marries is his own business. I don't give a damn."
Rolf glanced at me through the rearview mirror, and I knew he was trying to read any dissatisfaction on my face.
But honestly, there wasn't an ounce of discontent in me.
I met his gaze head-on, saying in an icy voice, "The last thread connecting us snapped when he pulled that trigger at me."
Rolf parted his lips, but in the end, he didn't say a word.
What was done couldn't be undone. No amount of effort from Derek could rewind time.
The current me was totally indifferent, feeling no love or even emotion.
I was somewhat stunned when the car stopped at the Silver Moon Pack. "He's here?"
"Yes. Tabitha, please go on in," said Rolf with a nod.
