Tabitha's POV
Dad's face went from astonishment to shock and finally settled on a happy emotion. "Really?"
I watched Dad's reaction and had some guesses in my mind.
Although I didn't know his exact thoughts, from the change in his expression, I could tell that he might have thought that the conflict between Derek and I had reached a dead end.
Now that he knew I was pregnant, his attitude changed. It made me realize that, in his mind, having children was a good thing.
"How can I lie about this? I'm pregnant with twins and it has been more than a month."
Dad was extremely excited. "Great, that's great."
I thought back to those days when Dad was seriously injured and hospitalized and I lost my child. By then, I forced a smile every time I went to see him, but I was getting haggard. Dad must have been worried about me all along.
Now that I was pregnant again, he might think that there was still hope between me and Derek.
"What's the deal between you and Derek? Why doesn't he come to see you anymore after you get pregnant?"
I bit my lip, but in the end, I still didn't speak the truth.
After all, the Silver Moon Pack declined, and my dad hadn't recovered yet. Telling the truth would only make him hate Derek and feel bad every day.
"He's an Alpha and recently he had some troubles. He was worried that we would be in danger, so he sent us here and sent someone to protect us. Besides, I'm only one month pregnant, so it's better to be more cautious."
After I explained so, Dad seemed to understand it. "No wonder he calls me every day now but doesn't meet me. Tabitha, then tell me, what is your attitude towards Derek?"
I gently touched my belly and spoke words that went against my true feelings, "Although we had some disagreements in the past, he is, after all, the father of my children."
"Yeah, you're right. You guys are still young. Every couple will argue, right? Don't think too much and take good care of the babies.
"This time, you must keep them safe. Having children will make everything better. Kids are the bond between the two of you, and you will always be a family.
"A few years later, you will realize how naive you were at that time."
I murmured his words repeatedly, "Are children the bond...?"
"Yeah, nowadays many young werewolves don't appreciate it. They easily break off their bonds, and the children become victims of marriage. Will changing partners make life better? New problems will arise."
I looked up and met Dad's gentle eyes. "Dad, what if a marriage really can't go on? Such as domestic violence, betrayal, or gambling. Do we still have to stick to it for a lifetime?"
"It's not like that. The problems I mentioned can be solved if both of them are willing to change for each other. They become better individuals to work on their marriage together.
"As for the issues you just mentioned, the problem cannot be resolved. Being together is like being bound by the strings of fate, with one person inflicting violence and the other suffering from abuse. In that case, it's better to separate and be free from each other."
Dad's eyes were filled with gentle strength. "Tabitha, I don't mean to make you choose. I just don't want you to regret it in the future. Life is long, and in the end, you have to live for yourself."
"Dad, what about you and Mom? Have you ever blamed her?"
I had too many questions about the two of them. Dad's eyes remained gentle, and his voice sounded just like before when he mentioned my mother. "I don't blame her. Love is always a choice, and she didn't choose me. Why should I blame her?
"Love is about tolerance and understanding, not hurting. Even though I can't have her, I would rather see her happy with someone else than with me. I am willing to let her go."
John and Derek were opposite to each other, with their contrasting ways of treating their loved ones. I couldn't help but ask, "So what did you get?"
