Tabitha's POV
Joanna hugged me tightly. Even though we were the same age, she comforted me like an elder.
"Tabitha, don't cry. I'm here for you. I'll take care of you, OK? John is already out of danger, and I'm sure he'll be fine. Maybe he'll come around in a few days. Everything will be just fine."
I used to believe in that, too. But what happened was like a slap in my face, and fate told me life could only get worse.
One wouldn't know how unlucky one could be till things really happened.
It was said that every dog had its day, and one wouldn't be unlucky forever. But I couldn't even see the slightest hope!
I woke up every day in fear. Perhaps in the next second, someone would tell me Dad was dead.
Perhaps something would happen to my babies, or perhaps they would develop poorly.
Or perhaps I'd be killed by wolfsbane.
I said, my voice trembling, "Joanna, I'm so scared. I'm afraid it's gonna be me and my babies next. I'm not afraid of death, but I don't want them to die with me."
"Tabitha, chill. It's all in your head. Try not to worry too much, OK? It's pretty safe here. No one will barge in again. Alpha Derek even got the gynecologist and examination equipment here for your sake. I went to take a look at the equipment. You know what? Each of them costs millions of dollars! Shocking, right? Rest assured, Tabitha. You mean the world to Alpha Derek. He won't let anything happen to you."
Joanna coaxed me as if I were a kid, "Don't think too much. It's not like the worst has happened. At least John survived it this time, right? I'm sure he'll be OK. You just focus on having enough rest and getting ready to give birth. Your babies will be born healthy, and you will be safe. I will see to it."
From that day on, I stopped giving up on myself.
I seemed to have become the younger version of Dad.
I tended flowers and plants every day, carved wood sculptures, and gazed at the azure sea, the rising sun, and the sunset.
When I completely cut off contact with the outside world, I found that the days seemed less unbearable.
Although Dad was still unconscious, at least I got to see him every day.
As long as he was alive, I had hope. As long as he was alive, I had a father.
In the blink of an eye, over four months had passed. It was now the scorching summer.
I was showing, and I could long feel fetal movement. My babies were like two fish, swimming around inside me every day.
Without Derek, my whole world seemed to have become more peaceful.
The sea was particularly beautiful under the sunset. My hair grew a little longer, and the sea breeze lifted my soft strands of hair.
During this time, I felt as if the wolfsbane in my body had disappeared. My wound didn't hurt again.
I gained quite some weight and looked much better.
The days of being tortured by the wolfsbane left by the rogue's claws were so unforgettable. Otherwise, I almost suspected that it was just a dream.
Maybe it was because of my babies. Anyway, my condition was stabilized and didn't get any worse.
As I sat, Joanna came in with some fruits. She smiled, "Tomorrow is the prenatal check-up. Make sure you rest early tonight."
"OK." I ate a few blueberries and suddenly frowned.
She asked anxiously, "What's wrong?"
I reached out and touched my belly, smiling gently while shaking my head, "Nothing. My babies are a bit excited."
"They're probably happy, too, knowing that they can meet their mommy tomorrow." She sat down beside me. "Alpha Derek had a new instrument sent over. I secretly asked around, and they told me it was the most advanced kind on the market now. You can know the baby's gender and even clearly see its face. Tabitha, do you want boys or girls?"
"The Moon Goddess hasn't enlightened me," I said.
