Tabitha's POV
Early in the morning, I woke up from a nightmare.
The awful dream was still fresh in my mind, and I could feel the sweat dripping down my back.
These days, I had been having a peaceful mind. This was the first time I had such a horrifying dream.
After taking a few deep breaths, I got out of bed and went to the bathroom to wash myself.
Standing under the shower, I placed my hand on my bulging belly, feeling my pups kicking me. I guessed they both loved shower time, as they were always quite active when I was in here.
The water wasn't too hot, just gentle droplets splashing on my body.
Weird enough, most pregnant women ended up with rough skin and more hair on their faces, but my skin remained fine and smooth.
I stroked my belly, soothing the babies inside me with a smile. Having them around just gave me hope for brighter days ahead.
As soon as I stepped out of the bathroom, my spirits drooped—the empty room was deadly silent, feeling like a tomb.
Having no other things to do, I turned on my phone and logged in with X. It had been months since I cut off contact with the outside world, so I had no idea what had happened.
But strangely, I couldn't find any news about Derek and Daphne online anymore, like someone had wiped them off the internet.
For the past three months, I had never seen Derek again. I supposed he was probably fulfilling his duty as a wonderful mate by Daphne's side right now.
Gloria would post some sad tweets at night and get pretty swamped the next day.
Judging from her posts, I could tell she had been doing well lately. Alpha Leopold might be very demanding, but the salary he offered her was huge.
Most people I used to know were enjoying life like before.
Suddenly, I caught sight of a link shared by one of them, which was a collectibles auction.
I wasn't a fan, but since a lot of Dad's collections had been auctioned off, I decided to click it, hoping to find some old items used to belong to the Silver Moon Pack.
To my surprise, I did find something—the moonstone necklace set that Dad had been wanting to reclaim. It was the heirloom of the Silver Moon Pack.
He'd occasionally move his fingers when I was talking to him, so who knew? Maybe he'd come around if I told him I got the necklace set back.
With this thought, I checked the time and had someone contact the person in charge of the auction to get an invitation.
Since this auction was anonymous, I figured as long as I kept a low profile and didn't draw attention to myself, no one should notice me.
When Derek caught wind of it, he didn't try to stop me.
He told me that according to the men he'd sent to keep tabs over these past few months, pretty much everyone involved with Poison and Wolf Shadow was out of Seattle, same as the members of Black Wolf Guild.
So as long as I laid low, I'd be fine.
Yet still, better safe than sorry. He arranged for top-notch pack guards just to make sure everything went smoothly for this trip.
To make sure I had a good mood during pregnancy, he prioritized my needs, rarely saying no to my requests. I guessed he was doing so to make up for everything he had put me through, too.
Joanna, hearing we could finally go out again, immediately jumped up with joy.
"Finally! We can get some fresh air! These several months have been suffocating!"
I chuckled, "Take a look at what day the auction is."
"August 30th. What's up?" She blinked, looking puzzled.
I flicked her forehead, replying. "Your Prince Charming is coming back that day, remember? Go pick him up at the airport. Don't worry about me. I'll be fine with all those badass pack guards around."
"Tabitha, as I said, your safety beats everything. I'm still young, and..."
I pressed a finger against her lips before she could finish her thought. "Don't say things like that anymore! Yes, you're still young, but who knows what's gonna happen tomorrow? Carpe diem. Do whatever you wanna do while you're still young so that you won't have any regrets."
Joanna got what I meant and nodded reluctantly, saying, "Alright then."
Before long, she changed into a new outfit, looking excited. "Do I look good in this?"
Watching her twirl around, I sighed inwardly, 'How nice.
'Even though I'm technically younger than Joanna by a bit, there's no more youthful vigor left in me. My heart's filled with nothing but despair.'
"You look wonderful," I said sincerely. "He'll definitely be head over heels for you, I swear."
Crystal whispered inside me, "Although it's unlikely for us to find our happiness, I still hope she's gonna be the happiest girl on earth."
