Alpha's Wife Hunt

Chapter 285

Ch. 285 / 840 May 06, 2026

Derek's POV

After receiving treatment for some time, Daphne was finally out of the woods and getting better.

Unfortunately, her legs were so severely injured, and the chances of her standing up again were slim.

When I walked in with Kyrian in my arms, she was lying in bed, looking pale and kinda worn out. "Derek, is he alright?"

"Fortunately, it's not too serious. He just took a nasty fall and got knocked out for a bit with a mild concussion. Nothing major," I replied.

Daphne breathed a sigh of relief and reached out to touch Kyrian's cheek. "Sweetheart, you gotta be more careful."

However, as soon as she extended her hand, Kyrian buried his face in my arms.

I quickly make up an excuse, "He got scared. You should focus on resting."

She looked at me, pleading, "Derek... Can't you spend some time with me?"

"I'm sorry, but he needs to go to sleep now," I replied, but in fact, I was thinking about Tabitha.

With that, I left without looking back. I then carried Kyrian all the way to my car, setting him down in the child safety seat.

"Sweetheart, I'm taking you to see your mommy, your real mommy," I whispered to Kyrian.

Kyrian's eyes lit up when he heard the word mommy, and he tightly gripped the seatbelt with his little hands, shouting, "Mommy! Mommy!"

Seeing that glimmer of hope in his eyes sent warmth through me, together with a hint of guilt.

At this point, I really didn't wanna hide the truth about Kyrian anymore.

Would she be happier if she knew that her baby was alive and had been fine all this time?

Would it make her stop hating me?

Halfway through the drive, my phone buzzed. I answered the call, and Alvin's serious voice came through the Bluetooth earbud, "Alpha Derek, I've some bad news."

"What's going on?" My heart tightened.

"We fixed the hacked security footage, and it turns out Kyrian's fall wasn't an accident at all. Someone pushed him. If he hadn't been quick on his feet and stopped himself from rolling down, it would've been more than just a knock-out."

My heart sank. If Kyrian had rolled all the way down, the consequences would've been unimaginable.

"At that time, the doctors and nurses happened to be doing their rounds. When they saw Kyrian fall, they rushed over, and that person took the chance to run away. If it hadn't been for that group of doctors, that person would've hurt Kyrian again."

I had a sneaking suspicion things were fishy, but hearing it confirmed still shocked me to the core.

"Did you find out who it was? Does it have anything to do with Poison and Wolf Shadow?" I asked.

"The man's tall and muscular. I don't think he's one of them. More like someone who has undergone special training."

I hit the brakes, and Kyrian, who was playing with his hands in the back seat, bobbed his head from the sudden stop. "Daddy?"

I ruffled his hair, soothing him, "It's cool, buddy. Nothing's wrong."

Alvin continued, "I've sent the surveillance footage to your phone. For your safety, I've just dispatched more bodyguards. They are on their way to your location."

"OK." I hung up the phone and clicked on the video. The person in it was wearing a large cap pulled down low, and the only thing showing was his mouth covered by a fake scruffy beard.

He stood upright, with a robust and muscular figure. As he pushed Kyrian, his clothes outlined the strong muscle contours on his arm.

People at Poison and Wolf Shadow were skilled in using drugs, and they were mostly slender in stature.

From his posture, physique, and aura, this person was either a retired mercenary or a hitman. He didn't seem to belong to Poison and Wolf Shadow at all.

My face darkened, my brows knitted. Just when I grabbed a cigarette, I heard Kyrian mumbling in the backseat, so I put the cigarette back in the packet.

Was my cover blown? If that were the case, then people close to me would all be in danger.

"Mommy, Mommy." Kyrian had no idea that he had just had a narrow escape. His eyes shone with innocence, completely unaware of the danger he was facing.

I smiled helplessly and said, "Sorry, buddy, I have to break my promise again."

Whoever this guy was, it was evident that he was targeting my son, and I couldn't take any risks.

My priority was to get Kyrian to a safe place.

I'd got too many stains on my hands and seen too much brutality.

If it was indeed those people, they would only get crueler.

I'd been through enough pain, and I didn't wanna relive that again.

I gently stroke Kyrian's smooth cheek, whispering, "I'm sorry, but you won't be able to see your mommy tonight."
