Tabitha's POV
Dad and I left Rose Manor even before dawn. I had no clue where we would be taken.
After a long journey, we finally arrived. This place wasn't one of Derek's properties.
Instead, it seemed like a chill hideaway tucked away in the city.
Obviously, Derek sent us to a place like this to protect us so that we wouldn't be tracked down.
The house combined the unique style of Seattle with the beauty of nature and the sophistication of modern architecture.
Dad seemed satisfied with it, saying it reminded him of his packhouse back in the Silver Moon Pack.
Even though it was way more contemporary, it had a comforting vibe that made us feel at ease.
Surprisingly, Dad managed to start walking without the help of a cane.
I hurriedly went forward to support him. "Dad, be careful."
He smiled with contentment, saying, "Tabitha, I feel so much better."
"Well, Dad, no need to rush. Take your time," I comforted him softly, feeling super happy about his recovery.
I knew that as a werewolf, he would recover faster than human beings.
But seeing him walking on his own still made me feel overjoyed.
Rolf hurried over to help Dad, too. "John, it's great you're bouncing back, but don't push it too hard."
"Don't worry, I know what I'm doing," Dad replied with a smile. He had been practicing walking in his room every day, and I knew he was itching to stand on his own again.
Anyway, this new place was super cozy, and it couldn't have been more suitable for me, a pregnant lady.
Ever since we got here, Derek hadn't shown up at all. Maybe he was swamped with wedding stuff, or he just didn't wanna let people know where we were hiding out.
Time flew by, and before I knew it, twenty days had passed. My morning sickness was finally fading.
Lately, my appetite shot up like crazy, and I was always starving.
With the morning sickness gone, I was looking and feeling way better. Even Joanna couldn't help but praise me, "Look, our gorgeous is getting prettier each day!"
Joanna and Gloria had similar personalities. Both of them were easygoing, straightforward, and honest.
Having them around lifted my spirits big time.
I wasn't drowning in negative vibes anymore, and I was starting to feel hopeful about the future.
But then, as I rubbed my still-flat belly, a wave of worry hit me.
"What's wrong, Tabitha? Did the salad just now not agree with your stomach?" Joanna asked with concern.
"No," I replied while thinking of something else. "It's just I realized that I need to go for a prenatal check-up now."
This check-up was super important, as it was to see if the baby had a heartbeat and if its development was normal.
"Or I could report that you're not feeling well and that I need to take you for a medical check-up?" Joanna suggested.
I sighed. This might not have been the best way, but I had no other options.
"Okay, be careful," I reminded her.
With Derek's wedding coming up soon, he was probably too busy to mind my business, I figured.
I was planning to contact Alpha Obadiah in advance, just like I did the last time. In this way, I didn't have to fill out a report form. The doctor would inform me of the results straight up, so there would be no trail left behind.
"Well, don't worry. I'll just say it's just a routine check-up. Alpha Derek won't find out," Joanna reassured me, patting her chest.
I nodded, silently praying everything would go smoothly.
