Tabitha's POV
A shooting star?
This was a rare sight in Seattle. I had longed for it since I was a child, staying up late countless nights because of it, but I'd never actually seen one.
But today, out of nowhere, here it was, catching me off guard. I didn't even have time to think of a wish.
By the time I snapped back to reality, I had instinctively put my hands together, a single thought flashing in my mind: I hope Kyrian would be alright.
When I opened my eyes, I saw a blinding silver flash. Meteors were streaking across the sky, leaving those long tails, breathtakingly beautiful.
I was actually watching a meteor shower. It was too good to be true.
My hatred toward Derek instantly vanished. At this moment, all I cared about was the baby in my womb.
I made two wishes: one for Kyrian to be safe, and the other for my baby to be born healthy.
As a werewolf, I had an indescribable awe for nature and the universe. Who knew? Perhaps those shooting stars could hear my wishes indeed.
Derek's POV
Before rushing back to the downtown area, I caught sight of the shooting stars too.
I stopped the car, leaned against the door, and took in the epic view of nature's show.
'Shooting stars, if you really can grant wishes, I just hope I could spend forever with Tabitha.'
I knew that if Tabitha heard it, she would find it ridiculous.
After all, in her eyes, I was probably just an unfaithful ex-mate, a total stranger.
But deep down, my wish to be with her hadn't changed one bit.
As the Alpha of a pack, I have this heightened sense.
I believed that my sincere wish could traverse the night sky and reach Tabitha's heart.
I closed my eyes, pouring all my feelings and wishes into this meteor shower.
When I opened my eyes again, the shooting stars had vanished, and the night sky returned to its usual darkness.
I took a deep breath, and it seemed like the air still felt warm from the meteors' glow.
Jumping back in my car, I fired up the engine and continued driving.
After a while, I arrived at the hospital, my stomach in knots.
Kyrian had already come around. The moment he saw me, tears filled his eyes as he cried, "Daddy…"
I scooped him up tight.
Chloe quickly stepped forward and explained, "Kyrian just had a check-up. Luckily, he's OK." I gently stroked Kyrian's little head, feeling relieved because of the warmth of his body in my arms.
"How did he fall from the stairs?" I asked.
As a werewolf pup with Alpha blood, Kyrian was smarter and way more coordinated than other kids his age.
It was impossible that he'd just fall for no reason.
"Maybe it was an accident," Chloe suggested.
"An accident?" I snorted.
I knew my son very well. He was as sharp as an adult werewolf. No way he'd make a dumb mistake like that.
"Did you check the footage?" I pressed.
"No, I was holding Reid the whole time. Alpha, you think this wasn't an accident?" Chloe looked surprised.
"Come on, there aren't that many 'accidents' in the world," I replied, doubts creeping in.
I then turned to Kyrian and asked softly, "Tell me, buddy, why did you sneak out?"
He said with tears in his eyes, "Mommy... I wanna see Mommy."
It killed me to see him like that.
Ever since I brought Tabitha back, I had tried to get him to spend time with her, but she was super cold about it.
Plus, she was pregnant and felt discomfort from time to time, so I dropped that idea.
I heaved a sigh. When Kyrian was a few months old, I secretly showed him Tabitha's photo, telling him, "This is your mommy."
I thought a little kid wouldn't get it, but he totally remembered it. He never called Daphne "Mommy", and every time he saw Tabitha, he'd be all cuddly with her. Perhaps that was the natural bond between a mother and a son.
"Good boy. You'll see her soon," I comforted him. Then I gave Alvin a few instructions and headed to Daphne's ward.
