Alpha's Wife Hunt

Chapter 278

Ch. 278 / 840 May 06, 2026

Derek's POV

Faced with Tabitha's vigilant gaze, I couldn't help but feel a wave of bitterness in my heart.

Guessed she saw me as an enemy now.

I sighed and tried to break the silence with a gentle tone. "Tabitha, don't worry. I won't do anything to you. I came here today to tell you that, Miss A, the musician you like is having a concert. I bought tickets. How about we go together tomorrow?"

Tabitha shot me a skeptical stare as if doubting whether I was plotting something again.

I understood her reaction. After all, I had caused her too much harm.

"Tabitha, I didn't mean anything else. Miss A hasn't shown up in public in recent years, and I know you have always been a huge fan. This concert could possibly be her farewell performance, and I don't want you to miss it."

Speaking of which, Tabitha hadn't been to any concerts for two and a half years.

The last time she listened to live music was the time when we were at a music festival. We were wearing matching outfits and caps, lost in the crowd, and she was singing her heart out.

Back then, she was so lively, adorable, radiant, and captivating, filled with the unique vitality of her age.

However, the Tabitha in front of me felt like a shell of her former self.

I could feel that especially through her eyes, which had lost their former sparkle and youthfulness.

A wave of guilt washed over me. I was the one who made her like this.

Seeing her stay silent, I placed the tickets on the table and softened my voice. "Tabitha, I know you've had a tough time these past few years. And I know you hate my guts as well. But what's done is done, and no one can change that. I just hope you can find a way to move on from the pain."

Finally, she spoke up, her voice dripping with exhaustion, "Fine, I heard you. Now get out. I'm tired now."

I looked at her and felt this urge to hug her tight and spill how much I regretted what had gone down. But I knew that what she needed now was not my embrace, but space and time.

So, I stifled that impulse and turned to leave, giving her a quiet night to herself.

Once I stepped out of the room, I took a deep breath, trying to calm myself down.

I knew deep down that repairing our relationship wouldn't be easy, but I had made up my mind. No matter how long it took, I would wait for the day when she could accept me again.

Tabitha's POV

I gently stroked my flat belly, knowing in my heart that what had happened for the past two years had taken away all the positive energy I should have had. Right now, I was swimming in negativity.

As werewolves, our emotions were closely connected to our pups. I had to think of my baby and keep my spirits high for its sake. I couldn't let the depressive emotions affect us.

Babies always had an indescribable spiritual connection with their mothers.

Since this pretty little creature had chosen me, I had to take good care of it.

In the dark, I curled up my body in bed. It had already become my habitual gesture ever since I lost my firstborn.

Gazing at the dim streetlights outside, I felt so confused.

After going through so much, could I still be like an ordinary mother?

My future seemed to be shrouded in a layer of dark clouds, filled with uncertainty.

The next afternoon, I opened the wardrobe and started picking an outfit for the concert.

The wardrobe was stuffed with all sorts of clothes, a stark contrast to the time when Derek had someone take away all my luxury handbags and clothes just to torment me.

Now, products of all the luxury brands were neatly hanging in my wardrobe, each one washed clean and ironed flat. When I opened the wardrobe, I could even smell fragrance.

Over the past two years, I had gotten used to wearing second-hand clothes bought from thrift stores. And it'd been forever since I dressed up properly.

Looking at those beautiful dresses, I caressed each one of them with my fingers. The cut and the texture of these clothes were all superb, and I felt a lump in my throat.

Once upon a time, I was also a girl who grew up being spoiled.

Dad arranged for someone to teach me etiquette. And I was like a carefree princess, never worrying about a thing.

Now, as my fingers glided over the smooth fabrics again, I felt a hint of anxiety and unease.

It felt like I had fallen off my princess pedestal, plunged into the mud, and turned into a beggar, whose life was full of worries and uncertainties.
