ADRIA’S POV
I looked at the knife in my hand, and wondered how I was going to kill someone. It was going to be hard for me as I had never done anything like this.
“Adria.” I heard a soft voice call out my name, and the breeze caressed my back.
I gasped in shock and looked around as swift as I could. I licked my lips in fear and widened my eyes to be at alert to catch a glimpse of any move of my opponent.
“Who are you? And why do you keep calling my name?” I questioned as I looked left and right, and then back and front.
Then I heard a laughter that seemed like it was sounding faraway.
“Do you really intend to kill me? I didn’t decide to kill you when you got here, but you have the guts to come at me first. Can you really handle me? Can you get my blood!” The voice blurted out curtly.
“I…I don’t want to. I really don’t want to, but how do I do it? My time is running out, and if I fail this task, I may never be able to make it out of here alive. I do not even know where to start.” I cried out as I held out the knife in the air.
“No cry baby makes it out of here alive, Adria. Since you have to do it this way, then I guess I have to protect myself from you, isn’t it?” The voice cackled.
“How do I even get your blood when I can’t see you? Are you a coward or something!” I tried to get on her nerves to make her show herself.
But still, I couldn’t bring myself to kill her, but the vampires left me no choice. If I don’t do this, there was a possibility that they would eat me up and it was so certain that if I don’t do this, they would give me a harder task to do, which could mean death for me.
“I see what you are trying to pull, Adria.” The voice spoke out, sounding spookier.
“You should know I’m not trying to pull any strings. It is just the fact. How am I supposed to get to you when I can’t see you?” I retorted, hoping she would come at me, anytime soon.
Suddenly, a figure appeared out of the dark, wearing a dark cloak, and when she turned to look at me, I gasped out of shock at her horrible face. Then she gnarled, and I saw a fork tongue instead.
“Not quite what I was expecting.” I muttered under my breath, uncomfortably.
Just before anything else, I was zapped back to the Vampires’ Castle which drew a puzzled look on my face as I turned to them immediately.
“What happened? Did my time run out that fast? I don’t think that’s fair.” I complained, feeling bitter, and treated unfairly.
Were they really desperate to eat me up that they didn’t want me to win before anything?
“Shh! You will continue this later.” Valerie hushed me immediately.
“Later? Wait, wait. I don’t understand. What’s going on?” I questioned, still looking baffled.
“The Great Vampire is here. She is currently on a hunt, which means she will kill anyone she sees, and doesn’t care if you are on a mission.” Victoria explained, in a low tone, looking nervous.
If they were this nervous, then I was supposed to be nervous as well. For vampires who looked
“She is going to kill you too?” I threw the question at them, still trying to understand what was going on.
“No. Look, we have to hide you first in the secret hall. You do not have much time.” Veronica blurted out, and grabbed me by my hand, then hurried deep inside the castle.
I didn’t know the castle was as big as this, and while going deeper, I could see more beautiful things that took me by surprise.
“Wow.” I didn’t know when I muttered that under my breath.
To me, Veronica seemed like a good runner, but still, I couldn’t wrap my head around what was going on, right now, and the only sounds I could hear were the slapping sounds our feet made while running through the different hallways.
Soon, Veronica halted abruptly in front of a large door, then she tried to gain her breath back and her chest was heaving in rhythm of her breath as well.
“Look, do not touch anything in there. We are helping you because we feel led to, so do not ruin this little kindness. Also, ensure you stay hidden. The Great Vampire is very powerful, and scary. You don’t want to cross paths with her. I have to go now.” Veronica informed me, then ran back as fast as the wind could take her.
I gulped down my saliva as I was left alone, and watched her until she was no longer seen. Then I slowly turned to look at the large door, and pushed it open with my right hand. It made no sound even as big and tall as it was. It also seemed old like it had been in existence for a very long time.
I walked into the hall and my eyes sparkled in awe. My mouth wasn’t left out either as it gaped open in amazement. There was a large bookshelf all around the walls and different books in different sizes were neatly arranged.
The floor was a tiled marble floor, and there was a piano, three wooden chairs, orbs on the vacant walls, and different potions arranged on a large table which was near the bookshelves. I was mind-blown, but I still didn’t forget what was going on.
Then I noticed a window with blue curtains.
“Maybe I can see the woods from here or the so-called Great Vampire.” I muttered under my breath, and balled my fists.
Although, it was a bit scary that the Great Vampire might come around here. What if she sniffed me out? It meant even these vampires won’t be able to do anything to help me.
I moistened my lips and let out a sharp breath, then took slow steps towards the window, carefully. As soon as I got there, I opened the curtains and a bright light shone at my face, making me shut my eyes instantly.
“Shit!” I cursed in pain.
The bright light caused me immense pain, and it was capable of rendering someone blind. I fell to the floor, and rubbed my eyes. Tears strolled down to my chin, and I cleaned it off, and opened my eyes slowly again.
“Gosh!” I gasped in relief, and chuckled lightly. “I thought I was going to be blind already.” I said, and slowly looked towards the window, still with intense curiosity over me.
My eyes had adjusted to the light, so I was able to look at the window without any trouble. I moved closer to the window, and finally looked out the window, although I didn’t open it.
My mouth gaped in awe as my eyes saw things, I never thought I would ever see in my lifetime.
“Wow. What a beauty, a marvellous sight.” I gasped in amazement. “This is definitely not outside of this castle.”
The trees looked heavenly, and bright. The flowers bloomed, and birds of different unique colours perched on the trees, while butterflies perched on the plants. The sky was blue, and the rainbow made it look pretty.
I was stunned and didn’t expect that I would come across a world like this, neither did I think that such beautiful worlds existed. Then I moved away from the window, and turned to look at the books which all looked amusing.
I reached out to the bottom of the shelf and removed a book from it. Then I dusted it off, and sneezed as the dust got into my nostrils. These books must have been here for a long time, and that means it’s all about history. Hmm! Things are about to get interesting.
“Story of the Rainbow?” I scoffed and bit my lips, then opened the book.
I flipped through the pages, awed by the writings and the pictures which were inside.
“Hmm. An interesting book. I’m certain that there would be some books which would sharpen my knowledge more, but there is no way to find out as there are many books here.” I spoke out as I scanned through the bookshelves.
I climbed the ladder which was placed beside the bookshelf as I decided to go to the middle and top shelves because I felt that they would contain more secrets and all.
As she climbed the ladder, I moved on carefully so as not to fall, and then when I got to the middle shelf, I removed a big book, and clung unto the ladder well. Then I opened the book, but staggered a bit.
“Oh, gosh! Probably I should just step down first before reading it. I don’t even want to imagine falling off this ladder.” I muttered under my breath, and shook my head.
As I tried to drop my right foot down to the next step, I tripped, and the book fell off my hand, and I began to fall, but held on to the ladder.
Unfortunately, the ladder began to creak as I had a firm grip on the ladder.
“Oh, no.” I said in a shaky voice.
I looked down, and shook again as I didn’t want to fall from such height.
“Oh, goodness. How am I going to do this?” I panicked as I looked down again.
Sweat beads popped up on my forehead, and my palms became sweaty. All of a sudden, that step broke, and I fell on the floor, making a loud thud.
“Ouch.” I winced, and tried to move, but to my shock, the large door opened, and a woman, looking tall and wicked, walked in, and my eyes was scanning through the place.
“The Great Vampire?”
