Chapter 80 It's not what you think
Ethan's POV
What was she doing here?
No, the real question was what was I doing here? Just because I was unsure of how the woman I've loved for the majority of my life felt about me, I left my home and came to a bar, and the worst part I met Rachel's worst enemy who was trying to act coy with me.
So then why did I agree to stay?
I could just brush her off and leave, but instead I remembered Rachel's plan of making Lana chase me and decided to stay.
But now I was regretting it. She had been talking none stop and all I could do was nod.
" Em... By the way, we've met before". She said and internally scoffed.
Of course I knew we had met before, did she think I lost my memory or something? We'll if that's what she thought, why not just play along.
"Really? Where?" I asked innocently.
" Yes, we, we went to the same high school together, me, you, Rachel and Marina". She answered eagerly
" We did? " I asked sarcastically but it was impossible for her to notice since it sounded so genuine.
" Can we sit and talk? She said pointing towards the seat I just got up from. I looked around, most of the others in the VIP section had left already, they were probably afraid of getting the same fate as that Leo guy.
I contemplated checking the time on my watch bit then it would make my stay too suspicious, so I just followed obediently and sat down on the chair folding my legs.
" Let's order drinks?" She asked calling a waiter already.
Not like I could say no, she had already ordered the damn thing.
" Get us a bottle of whiskey". She said to him before looking back at me after he had left , " So, do you want me to tell you more about how we know each other?"
Gosh...
I nodded again and then she began talking. After a while she paused. I thought for a moment trying to remember the last thing she said.
" Mostly dressed like what?" I asked her when I finally remembered so it would seem like I was following.
"Oh..." She exclaimed with a small smile then she fell into another round of deep thoughts.
" Lana" I called out when I couldn't take the way she was staring at me any longer.
" This is the first time I've heard you say my name. It sounds amazing ". She said with a wide smile.
This was the first time I've said her name to her face? I had no idea.
Shit, I shouldn't have said that, now she would really have hope. That was exactly what Rachel wanted to give her hope and then snatch it from her, but just thinking that a woman like her could think of being with me irked me to the bone.
" What? You do know that I'm with Rachel right? " I asked her and she snapped out of her ling daze.
"Yes I do, but the question is why". She said as the waiter came back around. I watched keenly as she poured the whiskey into the two cups, Lana was crazy she could out something in it and I wouldn't aware.
I could feel John's questioning gaze on me but I ignored it keeping my eyes on Lana as she began speaking again.
Why did everyone think Marina was the reason?
" What did she do? What happened?" I asked curiously.
" Rachel got second again in class, you kept beating her to the first position. Her father got mad when he saw the results, her smarts was the only reason he even talked to her. She carried the grudge all the way up until next term started, then she told Marina and i what happened. Marina just matched up to you at the cafeteria, and dumbed her entire tray on you. Everyone laughed, all apart from me".
That was the reason.
The reason Marina was so mad at me in school when she wasn't even the one I liked, it was because she was fighting for Rachel.
She coughed and I snapped out of my daze. I was staring at her but my mind was back at home with Rachel.
"I didn't laugh, because I didn't find it funny". She said pursuing her lips.
At least that bit was true. I remembered everything that happened that day, the laughter of everyone... But she was the only one who didn't laugh.
Actually from the start Lana never treated me like the way Rachel and Marina did, she was the only one who encouraged me to do better in my studies when the others didn't.
"It was Rachel's problem, why was she taking it so much on her head, why did she dumb food on an innocent person? You were smarter than her, that wasn't your fault". She continued and I fought the urge to laugh.
Now it all made sense, the reason she encourage me. She was glad that Rachel was having problems and still wanted those problems to continue.
I wondered why I didn't see if before. Desperate to look at anything but Lana's face, I looked down at the table and remembered the whiskey. She picked up her glass and raised it up for a toast.
To getting back my memories? Really? Did she think that if I ' got my memories back ' I'd leave Rachel?
That was funny, but nevertheless I picked up the glass and clicked it with hers before bringing it to my lips.
But if I really had lost my memories before, would I leave Rachel?
The thought made me just pause, and I pondered on it over and over again.
Lana was really cunning, painting Rachel to really look like the bad guy, and at the same time painting herself to be the saint.
Whatever, I didn't lose my memories and I for sure won't end up with Lana. Time was going and it was getting really dark, Rachel might start to get worried.
With that thought in mind, I gulped down the entire glass hoping to just leave like that, but I felt something change in my system the moment I fished drowning the glass.
I felt lighter, way lighter.
" Tell me more ". I said to her pouring myself another glass.
It was like I was bewitched or something, and I knew something was wrong whiskey, but I just couldn't stop drinking it.
After the while bottle was almost done, I was completely drunk and I actually couldn't feel anything.
" Ethan let's go now, you're too drunk". I heard her say faintly as she tried to pull me up.
No... I didn't want to go, I wanted more of that whiskey.
" We'll just go..." Lana suddenly stopped talking and I looked up to see who was able to that kind of magic.
Rachel?
I immediately felt sober and I pushed Lana away to look at the trembling Rachel who looked like she was just poured a bucket of cold water.
Which actually seemed like the case because she was wet, shit she must have come in the rain.
Rachel shook her head at me and her eyes turned red.
No... My heart sank to my stomach as I stared at her.
" Rach... Rachel please, it's not what you think. " I struggled to say while walking closer to her. But before I could touch her, she shifted moving away from me.
" No... I can't do this". She cried running out of the bar.
"Rachel!"
