Chapter 74 That must be her

Rachel's POV

I blinked removing my hands from hers. David came to see her.

Why would David come to see her? And if he did why was she telling me about it?

Could it be about Lana again?

" If this is about Lana..." I began, but she shook her head, stopping me. " It's not about Lana, it's about you. David wants you back in his life".

I paused in shock, before suddenly bursting into laughter. David wants me back?

That was the funniest thing I've ever heard.

" What's so funny? " Mother asked her brows furrowed in confusion and a hint of anger.

" This is what you just said. "I answered still laughing. " That bastard wants me back? Why? After he humiliated me by sleeping with Lana and after I caught him, he threw a divorce paper on my face and now he wants me back? Don't you find it funny too? "I asked hilariously.

My mother glared at me, her face serious. " That's not what happened Rachel. Stop making stories up. Despite everything you've done to that man, he still wants you back". She scolded and I felt the urge to laugh again, but this time at myself.

When she came to the hospital I thought she had changed. Maybe she wanted to be part of my life even though she was not my real mother, now I understood why she was here. The family sent her.

So David probably made an entrance back into Andrew's mansion and declared that he wanted me back 'despite everything I had done to him. '

I shook my head, biting my lips to stop my laughter. " You say I'm making stories up. Okay, I agree I made the entire thing up". I shrugged in acceptance. "What about the fact that I have a boyfriend? You don't expect me to leave Ethan and go back to David, or do you?" I asked, and she backed up in her seat.

" Rachel, the alliance between Hart Industries and Andrew Corporation is at stake here..." She cried.

That was it.

That was the main reason she was here.

" David promised to cancel everything if you don't go back to him; you know the state the family is in right now; we really need the alliance. I would never... "She stopped looking away guiltily.

" You would never what mother? " I asked her my laughter dying down and tears filling my eyes. " You would never have agreed to David wanting me back and would have chosen to set him up with Lana instead, right? Because he's rich and the sole heir to Hart Industries, right, Mother!" I yelled unable to control my emotions.

"Yes! If that's what you want to hear, I'll tell you. Yes. David is too good of a man for you". She yelled back. "You're ungrateful, Rachel. "

"Ungrateful?" I scoffed.

"After everything this family had done for you, I picked you up from the gutters, I raised you as my own child, and now the family wants something from you in return, something that would benefit you also, and you refuse? That's the definition of ungrateful!" She said banging her hand on the table.

" What about what I want? You want me to be grateful, at the expense of my happiness,, Mother... "

" Why would I care about your happiness? " She said with a snicker snd a mocking laughter. " I never wanted to even have this conversation with you. If it was up to me David would be with Lana, my real daughter. I would have them married if I could"

I shook my head in disbelief, standing up from my seat." Then do it. Have them married, do whatever you want for all I care. ".

" He wants you".

" Then I'm sorry mother, I'm not going back to him. " I said in anger. With a huff I turned around ready to leave but then I heard my mother's loud voice.

" Wait! " She shouted and I rolled my eyes hesitatingly turning back. " What if there's another way? " She said with a smirk. Something I had never seen on her face before.

"What do you mean?" I asked brushing my long hair backwards with my hands, tucking the stray strands back in place.

It was getting windy out already, it looked like it was about to rain.

" Seat down. " She commanded. I sighed contemplating a bit but finally deciding to obey her wishes.

" I didn't believe it when I found out aat first, but after seeing the man with my own eyes I now believe. "

My brows furrowed in confusion. "Believe what?"

She picked up her already cold cup of coffee which we both ordered a while ago and taking a sip from it.

Yes, the place was a forest but it was like a blend of a mini restaurant and a nice view. There were tables for people who had gone into the forest to just rest and eat.

" Your boyfriend, he's Ethan Wright isn't he not?" She asked.

I face palmed myself, already knowing where the conversation was heading to.

" He is, and so what?"

An evil smile appeared on her face. " Get him to make a business alliance between his company, E & R group of companies and Andrew Corporation ". She said in a bold voice.

I looked at her in shock.

Was she serious?

" Are you serious? "

She shrugged. " It's the best thing to do since you don't want anything to do with David, and pir family needs more money so it's a win win ".

" How is that a win win?" I asked trying my best to curl my temper. She just said rubbish, what was I gaining in that?

" Well, I can get David to marry Lana back again since you don't want to, and the family wouldn't object to it since they have the money they so much need, like I said, win win".

" Who says I'm going back to David either way?" I said in an amused voice.

She still thought she had a hold on me? Well, she thought wrong.

"Rachel..."

"You said it yourself mother, " I interrupted. " I am not the real daughter of your family, which means I don't have to do anything for you. I don't care if you go bankrupt and I certainly, most certainly don't care if Lana doesn't find a man to marry her. " I stated with a smile.

My mother's hold on her coffee cup tighten. If it got any more tighter, it would shatter into pieces.

Now this is what they call using your words against you.

I stood up again picking up my purse. " I don't owe your family anything. You picked me from the gutter son your own will, I had nothing to do with that and you can't use that to threaten me into bending to your wishes. "

" Rachel you can't... "

" Also, I would love it if David and Lana end up together, they would be a the perfect couple, the only thing is that I won't help make that happen. " I said walking away.

" You can't walk away from me, I am your mother"

I turned around sharply. "No, you're not.

"Rachel I was the first person sent because the family wanted to go easy on you, if you don't agree now they won't be nice anymore ". I heard my mother's faint voice as I walked away from her.

"Let them send whoever they want, I said no!" I yelled walking away from her and out of the forest. This used to be my safe space, but now that's ruined.

I had another one anyway, Ethan's garden.
