Rachel's POV
I stared at the Andrews mansion from the back seat of the taxi I was in with a wry smile on my face. The time I was here almost six years ago, I had swore to expose Lana and get my revenge on every member of this family that wronged me.
But here I was about to admit defeat.
Immediately I told Marina that I was going back to David, she began to throw a fit. She disagreed completely, giving me dozens of reasons why I shouldn't do... Why I shouldn't even think about it
Her funniest and the most meaningful was her question, why could I just leave a single rich actress life and be happy.
Why was I always chasing after men, readily falling in love with them?
I had no answer to that, I knew I was making the right choice choosing to go back to David.
Martha made it clear that I had only two options, to get back together with David or to convince Ethan to allow his company to form a business alliance with theirs.
Since Lana and Ethan were together, Lana was in the best possible to fulfill the other one and since she couldn't it must mean that Ethan wasn't going to, and nothing could convince him... If the woman he loved couldn't, how could I?
Then the first one... David probably wants me back in his life after Lana broke up him and went for Ethan. Once I go back to him, he would not fulfil his threat and the company would be saved. I explained it all very clear to Marina who was still very adamant and refused me doing it.
She said i was just throwing my life away for a family who wanted nothing to do with me as from a week ago until David came with his threats.
' Why are you helping them anyways? They are not your real family! ' She had yelled and for a second there I agreed with her, thinking it over... Why was I doing this?
Those people were really not my real family.
' But they raised you for over twenty years and though not all of them showed you love some did ' My subconscious answered.
And that was the same thing I said to Marina and she became speechless.
Now I understood why they sent Martha. She was the only one in that entire family who loved and cared for me. My older brothers? They were almost never there. They all studied abroad so I rarely got to see them, sometimes I forget they existed.
My father? He was always hard on me and the only thing he liked me for was my brain. I always took the first and got the highest mark... That was until Ethan came around.
My grandparents? Now they were the worst. They never treated me like part of the family, and sincerely I never was. Only Martha, my mother took care of me and I never felt like an outcast in her presence because they respected in the family.
But that until Lana came and everything changed.
I owed them... No, Martha this much.
Andrew Corporation is an already failing business and no amount of business alliance could change that but since they couldn't see it, I'll give them hope.
I'll do this, and them be completely free from the guilt and the constant panging on my conscience.
I took in a sharp breath and let it out as slowly as I could, repeating the action two more times before getting out of the taxi.
" Thank you". I whispered after paying the driver his money.
This may not be the last time I'd come here, but I was sure as hell not leaving here with tears.
I took one last look at the mansion before heading towards the gate and walking in.
"She's here " I heard a familiar voice exclaim but I refused to turn around to confirm whoever it was. I just went straight into the house and sat on a chair waiting for the main people, my grandparents to arrive.
Lana was about walking out of the house when she sighed me and her face contorted in anger.
" What the hell are you doing here?" She shouted and I leaned back on the chair with a smirk refusing to give her an answer.
" Can't you hear me or have you suddenly gone deaf? What the fuck are you doing here? " She asked again and I rolled my eyes in boredom.
Then all of a sudden she burst into laughter, clapping her hands as she laughed and I just couldn't help buy look at her.
What was going on in her head?
" I know what your doing here. It's about Ethan Wright isn't it?" She asked and I drew in a sharp breath hiding my hands behind my dress and squeezing it tightly.
She laughed again, probably getting an answer from my expression.
I wanted to act expressionless... I wanted not to care, but the damn betrayal still hurt like crazy.
" I'm right, am I not? How did you feel when you saw us together last night?" She asked taking a seat on the chair opposite mine. " We were about to head over to a room when you suddenly appeared. Tsk tsk... If only you could have waited a few more minutes". She said in a mocking tone and I looked away biting my lips in anger.
Of course I knew she was doing this to spite me, but it could also be true.
My imaginations were running wild and I began to think of the craziest things.
' Rachel seriously get a grip on your anger. You can't let Lana know that her gimmicks were working damnit ' I shouted at myself taking in a huge breath to calm my raging nerves.
I felt like just strangling Lana right now, and I could do it. Lana was practically bones and almost not flesh, she was weak. If I wanted to strangle her I would win.
"... I can't believe you wanted to keep Ethan Wright to yourself after everything you did to him back in highschool. " Lana continued speaking but I pretended not to listen anymore.
The more I listened, the more strangling Lana right now felt appealing.
" And his ..."
"No one wants to hear about you and your boyfriend's escapades. " I suddenly said shutting Lana up.
" My boyfriend? " Lana asked in shock.
I blinked at her pulling my lips in a straight line. " I know everything. How you and Ethan planned everything, and I just say you indeed are a fantastic actress."
Lana's eyes widened at first, and I saw something like a glint pass through her eyes before she smiled widely at me.
"You finally got it. I guess last night was an eye opener to you huh?". She said with a mocking smile while wiggling her brows at me.
My heart completely sank.
I had thought that maybe, just maybe I was mistaken. Maybe Ethan and Lana were not together and it was just a coincidence like Marina had suggested, but Lana just confirmed everything.
I nodded digging my finger nails deep into my palm while biting my lips and hard as I could to stop them from trembling, I even tasted blood.
" I guess you were not able to convince Ethan to invest and ally with the family's failing company huh? Well I'm here to do the job for you". I spat out my tone filled with venom.
Lana's smiling face disappeared, replaced with one of confusion. " What did you mean by..."
" Convince Ethan? Who's convincing Ethan?" I heard Martha say interrupting Lana's question.
She was not the door, coming in with... David.
I got up, picking up my purse from the chair. " Your daughter, she's with Ethan now". I answered Martha's question before looking at David. " Come with me".
