After Divorce: Loved by the Secret Billionaire CEO

Chapter 75 Crossing boundaries

Ch. 74 / 155 Apr 28, 2026

Ethan's POV

I stared at the floor-to-length window in my study, with my hands shoved in the pocket of the hoodie I was putting on, watching the sky as it poured down to the ground in worry.

Rachel should be back by now, and the rain was not making things better.

It was pouring outside, with the loud sound of the rain hitting the ceiling filling the air and all I could think about was where in god's name Rachel was right now.

"I shouldn't have agreed to let her go with her mother". I thought out loud, my eyes still glued to the window.

The only reason I agreed was that Rachel was smiling; she was so happy to see her mother come to visit her that I couldn't just refuse that woman from taking her daughter to talk.

Plus, she wouldn't do anything to Rachel,, right? She was her daughter, though not biologically but for most of her years. She couldn't harm her, right?

The anticipation was killing me and the heavy rain wasn't really helping matters.

Okay, that's it. I can't take this any longer.

I removed my hands from my hoodie bringing out my phone. I dialed a number and placed the phone by my ear.

"Boss". A voice on the other side said.

"Where is she?" I asked in a harsh tone, my eyes still glued to the window, waiting for a car to drive in or even a taxi to drop her off.

" I'm here and fine". I heard Rachel's faint voice from the phone, and a smile appeared on my face.

"Rachel? Give her the phone". I ordered the John, which was also the man I sent to watch over her.

"What?"

My smile got wider. It really was her. I had been worried for no reason at all. But how was she in the car?

" How did you..."

"How did I find out that you ordered John to follow me about, you know spy on me? " She completed and bit my lip in embarrassment.

Spy? He wasn't there to spy on her.

"Yes, I had sent John to watch you, but it was only because I don't want a situation like what happened before happening again."

"You really don't trust me do you?" I heard her sarcastic voice on the phone. If she was in front of me right now, her hands would definitely be on her chest while rolling her eyes at me.

I let out a heavy sigh.

"It's not you I don't trust; it's your mother," I admitted looking away from the window.

Rachel went quiet on the other end and I grimaced. Just like I suspected, something happened to that mother of hers.

" Where are you?" I asked with a sigh.

" We're almost at the mansion, the boss; we'll arrive in a few minutes," John answered, and I nodded.

She must not want to talk about it on the phone, or even at all.

"Alright". I answered ending the call while walking out of my study. As I walked down the stairs, I met my caretaker, Aunt Vicki, standing downstairs, as if waiting for someone.

" Aunt Vicki?" I called out to her and she turned towards me.

"Oh, my dear Ethan, the maids were telling the truth; you have returned." She exclaimed, giving me a warm hug.

Because of Rachel's accident, I spent most of my time at the hospital, I practically lived there for a few days, and all those days, I never came home; I sent either Mark or John.

"You've lost a lot of weight, my child, don't worry; Aunt Vicki will fix everything." The old lady said with a smile.

I smiled back returning her hug.

She was like a mother to me and my family.

" I'm alright Aunt Vicki, really. " I said finally letting go of her and slightly pushing her away. " Don't you see how handsome I look now". I added slowly, strolling my chin, which made the old lady laugh as she held my cheeks with both hands.

"Yes indeed, Mr Wright, you look very handsome. I'm sure, ma'am, Rachel would fall even more for you now". She said and a small smile involuntarily creeped on my cheeks. " Really? " I asked her staring at her with hope.

This past few days, nothing really serious or even moving had happened between me and Rachel. I wanted to be the one to make the first move, but I just couldn't bring myself to do it.

If I made my feelings known to her, she might just close herself up again, and this time, it would be impossible to get her to open up again. Se might even choose to leave my house since, by now, she definitely has the money.

No... I can't let that happen.

I would have to keep my feelings for her bottled up until everything is cleared up between Lana and her family, then I'll reveal it and I won't stop pursuing her until she sees how much I'm in love with her.

" Mr Wright? Are you alright?" I heard Aunt Vicki ask, and I nodded with a smile.

"Yes, I'm just happy. Rachel is coming back today". I explained and her eyes widened in surprise.

"Really?" She asked in a surprised tone. "Wow, I was only gone for a few hours, yet all of these had happened."

She had asked for a day's break from work to visit her daughter, who was passing by the country and decided to visit her, and I readily gave it to her. She rarely went on breaks anyway.

The sound of an engine passing through the gates made me look up. " That must be her"

I said to Aunt Vicki walking out of the house and down to the porch. The car just drove in, and because of the heavy rain, John parked it right by the frontage of the house.

Immediately the car engine stopped, John ran out with an umbrella to open the door for Rachel, but she didn't wait at all. She opened the door by herself and stood out in the rain looking around.

My eyes widened in shock, and I ran out, holding her towards myself.

Time seemed to have stopped the moment her beautiful brown eyes met mine.

I had always thought that brown eyes were very boring, that it was a common color, but that was until I saw Rachel's beautiful eyes.

Though it was brown, it was the prettiest color of brown I had ever seen, and these days, they seemed to sparkle brightly.

But right now, it wasn't sparkling; in fact,, it looked like the bright glint that had been there for the last few days had disappeared.

Rachel looked away from me and I snapped back to reality, taking her hand and bringing her inside the house.

" Aunt Vicki, please can a cup of hot tea for Rachel". I asked Aunt Vicki as we entered the house.

The old lady seemed to notice that Rachel wasn't in her best mood, so she nodded.

"Make it a cup of coffee". Rachel said shaking her head. I narrowed my eyes at her. Taking coffee at this time? She would not be able to sleep.

"No, tea," I said my voice very stern. Aunt Vicki nodded again and immediately left to make the coffee.

I tried to meet her eyes again; maybe that way, I could understand what happened to her, but she refused to look at me, looking everywhere but at my face.

A frown appeared on my face, and I stretched out my hands to touch her smooth face, making her face me.

"What happened?" I asked softly staring at her face.

"Nothing". Rachel replied trying to remove her gaze from mine. I nodded removing my hands from her face and walking behind her.

"Let's go up," I said grabbing her hands and taking her up the stairs and to her room.
