OUR PLACE
Kai held my hand tightly as we were looking at the shocked Rachel Grey. She looks so shocked and devastated at the same time. I know how it feels—that feeling when someone you love rejected you. Trust me. I know the feeling.
“W-what?” she couldn’t even utter that one word. She’s in disbelief. And—I don’t know—maybe, in despair as well.
Kai laced his fingers with mine but he’s still keeping me behind him. I don’t really know why. Is it because he’s scared that Rachel Grey would slap me once again? I don’t know.
“I said, let’s break up.” Kai repeated those same words.
Tears welled on Rachel Grey’s eyes as she looked at Kai, apologetic and submitting. She shook her head and walked near us.
“No…” she shook her head and held on Kai’s arm. “No, Kai. You’re kidding, right?” she asked, in denial of everything that’s happening in front of her.
It must hurt. I can see that she loves him so much. She wouldn’t be this devastated if she didn’t. I know how it feels to have my heart broken by the person I love the most. I even know the feeling of breaking the heart of the person I love the most.
Kai clenched his jaw and yanked his hand away from her. He’s being too harsh on her in my opinion. I can see how badly Rachel Grey is hurt in front of him right now. And I wish he could see it as well. She’s hurting because of us. She’s hurting because he is cheating on her with me. I could still call it cheating since she’s still the legal girlfriend.
I held onto Kai’s arm, making him look at me. He narrowed his eyes on me and I shook my head at him. He needs to calm down. He’s the person at fault here.
He shut his eyes and let out a deep sigh. He looked at Rachel Grey as he squeezed my hand, pulling me closer to him. “Rachel, let’s break up. I love Eunique,” he said nonchalantly.
It was as if he doesn’t care that he’s hurting her right now. All that he’s thinking is that he needs to get out of Rachel’s cage. He needs to break up with her and that’s the goal.
I looked around and saw my members watching us in both shock and awe. I know I’d need to answer all of their questions later and I’m ready to do so.
“You love her?” Rachel Grey asked in disbelief. “Why do you love her? She’s not elite! She’s not an heir to anything! She’s just a woman you need before you settle with me! I am going to be your fiancée, don’t you remember?! We’ll be getting engaged next week!” she yelled at us.
Kai clenched his jaw. His hand is shaking in anger and all the other things. Suddenly, I’m scared. I’m scared of what he could do to her. He could hurt her and will pay for it because she’s a woman who will do everything to get what she wants. I know. By now, I can see. By the way she yells her frustrations, I know that she will do everything for him.
“There’s no engagement that will happen,” Kai gritted his teeth.
Rachel Grey scoffed and shook her head. “Are you sure that’s gonna happen?” she asked. “You break off and your business will go down!” There was threat and warning in her voice.
Kai squeezed my hand and inhaled deeply. “Go ahead! I don’t care anymore,” he spat before pulling me out of that room, angry and everything in it.
He pulled me to the elevator without uttering a word. His eyes are narrowed as I can see at his reflection on the elevator door. His jaw is still intensely clenched and I can see that he’s still gritting his teeth. He looks like he could kill someone who would do something stupid.
When the lift reached the basement, he pulled me into his car. Without uttering a word, he opened the door of his car and let me in. Ironically, he is so gentle when he was handling me. It was like I’m the most delicate thing in this world that I might break with a mere force.
He ran to the driver’s side of the car and placed his seatbelt.
I looked at him. “Where are we going?” I asked him.
He gave me a glance and a weak smile. “I’m sorry,” he told me but didn’t answer my question.
I bit my lip wondering where we’ll go.
Will he take me far away? Will he take me home? I don’t know.
But was I willing to go anywhere with him? Yes.
He pulled over a huge building. I’ve seen this on my way to the office but I haven’t ever thought of what it looks like inside. It seems like it’s a home for the elite. The design is so sophisticated on the outside. Now, I wonder what it looks like on the inside.
He parked the car and assisted me in going down the car. He planted a kiss on my forehead before taking my hand in his and leading me inside the lift.
“Are we meeting someone here?” I asked him.
The last time I checked, he doesn’t live here. His condominium unit is somewhere nearer in the building. Not here. Or maybe he’s bought a unit here?
I was too busy thinking of what we’re doing here when the lift opened. Fiftieth floor. He led me out and walked to a room. 5008.
I narrowed my eyes at him as he punched in a password on the automatic locked door. He glanced at me and smirked. Wait, don’t tell me…
“This is our place,” he told me as he led me inside the room.
I stared at him in shock. “What?” I asked in disbelief.
I looked around the place and was awed at everything in it. It’s perfect. The design is classy. There’s a mini-fountain in the middle of the first floor and two recliner chairs on the sides. I couldn’t believe what I was seeing. Is this for real or a fairy tale?
The huge ceiling-to-floor windows are majestic. It would show a nightscape of the city lights. I can see everything. I can see the whole London from here.
I walked to the windows and took a look at the whole London. It looks beautiful at daytime. How much more when it’s night time?
I smiled as I looked out and smiled even more when I felt Kai’s arms around me, hugging me from behind.
“Do you like it?” he asked me.
I could feel his breath on my neck.
Damn. I would never get tired of this feeling. I have to succumb to this every time. And I won’t find any reason to complain.
I nodded and I felt him plant a kiss on my neck.
“I’m sorry,” he uttered softly.
I looked at him and smiled. “You don’t have to be…” I told him.
He held my shoulders and made me face him. He shook his head. “No. I’m sorry. Rachel is always like that,” he told me.
I smiled. “She loves you…”
I felt a million knives piercing through my heart as I uttered those words. Telling him that another woman loves him is like telling him that I am conceding. But trust me. I’m not. With regards to him, I won’t concede. He’s mine. Only mine.
He narrowed his eyes at me. He cupped my cheeks. “I love you, alright? I don’t care about other girls but you. I would only look at you.” He looked straight into my eyes.
I smiled. “I know. And I love you, too,” I replied and kissed his lips quickly.
He smiled and bit his lip. “You’ll never leave me, right?” he asked.
I shook my head. “Never,” I replied like a promise.
He smiled and hugged me tight. “You better because I would look for you everywhere if you did. You can’t escape me, Eunique. Never. I won’t let you do so.”
I smiled and hugged him tighter. “I know.” I chuckled.
The office has been calling him the whole day because we decided to stay here for the rest of the day. I left my phone in the office so I wouldn’t know what’s happening in there.
I’m sure it’s a mess because Rachel Grey might have blown us up in the whole company. Or better yet, in the whole media.
Kai cooked us dinner while I was watching the news. He didn’t want me to watch because he told me that I might see something that would hurt me. I know he’s not telling me something. I know that he’s just protecting me from something.
“Nildex Shipping’s Kaisser Bennett to wed investor’s daughter, Rachel Grey, two weeks from now…” The reporter spoke. I narrowed my eyes on the screen. I wanted to laugh at Rachel Grey’s desperate measures.
I was shocked when I saw Rachel Grey appear on the screen. It’s live. And damn, she even had the guts to hold a press conference right after Kai broke up with her in the morning.
She’s wearing a blue cocktail dress while smiling in the camera. Beside her is her cousin, Paris Frank, who’s doing the same.
I narrowed my eyes on the screen when Rachel Grey started answering the questions asked by the press.
“Where is Kaisser Bennett right now?” One press person asked.
Rachel Grey smiled. “He’s busy preparing for our wedding,” she replied. I raised my brow and crossed my arms against my chest. “He’s too excited and he’s scared something might go wrong.”
People in the audience cooed at Rachel Grey’s remark. “Do you know about the pictures circulating in the social media? The one where Kaisser Bennett is hugging some other girl in a resort?” one reporter asked again.
Rachel Grey laughed weakly. “I’ve talked to Kai about that and he has denied everything. I trust my fiancée,” she replied so confidently.
The reporter complimented her relationship with Kai and she thanked him, smiling weakly at me.
Kai wallked to the living room, rushing to my side. “What are you watching?!” he asked, nervously.
I looked at him and smiled. “It’s your crazy, obsessed ex telling everyone that you both love each other.” I laughed.
He narrowed his eyes at me then smirked. “Oh, please…” he rolled his eyes before crashing his lips on mine. I chuckled and kissed him back. I wish Rachel Grey’s watching. Bitch!
