KAISSER
I woke up the next day only to find out that I am alone inside my unit. I called out Eunique’s name over and over but I heard no responses. I got up and looked around—the kitchen, the terrace, the guest room, the bathroom, everywhere—but she was gone.
I got my phone and dialed her number numerous times but it will always lead me to voicemail.
I gulped so hard as a sharp pain attacked my chest when I realized what’s happening. Curses are the only ones I could mutter as I got dressed and started to look for her. I didn’t stop calling her and leaving a bounty number of voicemails hoping she just had an emergency.
I called Ashley, one of Eunique’s best friends but it was Kris who answered it.
“What the fuck, dude? Why are you calling my girlfriend?” this asshole’s possessive voice annoyed me. I don’t fucking care about him and his girl. I have my own girl…who is nowhere to be found.
“Is Eunique there?” I asked him, ignoring his possessive remark.
“What? No!” Kris replied. “Is she missing? Aren’t you with her?”
Shit. My lips parted. I wanted to explain but I ended the call immediately and called Eunique’s other friends—Hannah and Janice—but they all gave me the same exact surprised reaction. They all thought Eunique’s with me.
Fear and anxiety filled my system as I drove to their house. I know Eunique still hasn’t introduced me to her parents because she is scared that they would not approve of me since they haven’t warmed up to idea of her having a boyfriend. But damn it. I need to know if she’s here.
I pulled over in front of their house and got out of my freaking car. I didn’t think twice and pressed the doorbell. My heart is beating so fast—I am nervous, but above all, scared of the possible terrible things that have happened to Eunique.
Eunique’s brother got to the gate. He looked at me curiously. “Who are you?” he asked.
My eyes widened. “I’m a friend of Eunique’s,” I introduced. I badly wanted to say boyfriend but I don’t want to get her to trouble. “Is she here?”
Eunique’s brother stared at me like I did say something wrong. He tilted his head to the side and shook his head. “My sister left hours ago…”
I narrowed my eyes at him. What did he mean left? “Where?” I asked him even though my heart is already about to explode.
“States,” he replied curtly. “She’s going to study there. My parents went with her.”
My lips parted and my eyes widened at the shock. I could almost feel my hands trembling and my whole system crashing down.
Eunique fled the country and she didn’t tell me where she’s going. She didn’t tell me anything about this. In fact, she didn’t tell her friends either! They had no clue where she is. They had no clue about her plans.
And fuck it because I am so mad at her. How can she give me her virginity and leave me the first thing in the morning? What did she take my feelings for? What did she think my love for her is?
“Stop that now, Kai. You have had enough,” Kris scolded me as I downed my fourth bottle of tequila.
I was drinking inside a random noisy bar and I don’t even know how this son of a bitch found me.
I looked at him and saw how he looked at me intently. Is he sad? Disappointed? Annoyed? Angry?
Because I am… I am way beyond angry. I am way beyond sad. I am devastated. I felt like my whole world shattered right in front of me. The pain…the pain in my chest seems to suck out the life out of me. The pain in my heart is so unbearable and I am desperate for it to stop.
I’ve been groveling and moping for hours. The words that came out of Eunique’s brother’s mouth kept repeating inside my head. She left. She left me. She left without telling me.
I feel like I want to tear my head in half.
I kept thinking of the things I did. Did I do something wrong? Did she not like how I took care of her? Damn!
I shook my head and wiped the traitor tears that escaped. I cried. I cried so hard until I was already tired. But even when I am tired, the pain is still there.
“What do you think made her leave?” I asked Kris who is just watching me. “Was I…was I not enough for her?”
Kris never answered. He just stayed there and listened. I asked him so many questions because, for once, I want an answer. I want him—or just anyone—to give me an answer to all the questions in my head.
I love Eunique. I love her more than anything in the world. When no one believed in me, she did. When no one trusted in me, she did. When no one saw the good thing in me, she did.
She’s my light. She’s the light that guides me to the good side. She’s the light that makes my whole darkness bright. She’s my assurance in every doubt. She’s my answer in every question.
But now she’s gone. She left me. My whole damn life is darkness again. My whole life is full of doubts and questions again.
“I love her, Kris…” I sobbed. “I love her so much.”
I shut my eyes close and tears rushed down my cheeks. I have never fucking imagined crying for a woman. Never. Until now. And fuck if it doesn’t slowly kill me now.
“She…” I shook my head. “She left me…without a word.” After fucking me. I wanted to add but I didn’t want Kris to know about my doings with her.
“Maybe she has her reasons,” Kris said, trying to pacify me.
I looked at him in disbelief. “Reasons? What kind of reason does she have that includes leaving me like a fucking stupid dog in the middle of the fucking night?!”
I don’t understand why she couldn’t have the decency to tell me she’s leaving. I don’t understand why she chose to leave so suddenly without bothering to break it up with me.
“We don’t know, Kai. Eunique didn’t tell anyone…” Kris sadly said.
I shook my head, staring at the bottle of tequila in front of me. “Maybe she didn’t love me…”
Kris shifted in his seat. “You can’t say that. We all saw how she loves you.”
I downed another shot of tequila before turning to Kris. “Well, she didn’t love me enough to at least explain, so I don’t know,” I told him before standing up and passing out.
