To Make You Come Back To Me

Special Chapter 2

Ch. 34 / 37 Aug 19, 2022

KAISSER

“She’s in Brooklyn,” Kris said as he entered my office.

I lifted my head from the contract I am reading to meet his playful gaze. He’s smirking at me like he’s feeling so triumphant of what he just said.

“So?” I asked back.

As a matter of fact, I know. I know where she is. I hired men to find her. I hired men to look for her. That’s how determined I am. That’s how desperate I am.

But I won’t admit that. Not to anyone. Not even to my best friend.

Kris narrowed his eyes at me in disbelief. He must not believe it. Just a few days ago, I was drowning myself in drinking every alcoholic beverage I could get a hold of. But now, I seem different.

“Have you moved on?” he asked as he sat on my couch.

I raised my brow at him. Move on? How do I even do that? I feel like Eunique took my heart and literally locked it somewhere I couldn’t find. Now, it’s lost. Now, I’m lost.

But then I also realized that if she had the guts to leave, I must only be wasting my time here. She left me. It means she doesn’t love me enough. So why…why do I have to wait here and destroy myself for her? She isn’t worth it.

“Hmmm…” Kris got my attention. “Did you hire men to find her?”

I scowled at him.

He laughed at me like I am a big joke personified. “You did, huh? Anything for Eunique, right?” he shook his head.

I glared at him. “Did I ever laugh at you when you were begging for Ashley?!” I asked him, annoyed at how he’s frustrating me now.

He gave me a look. He knew how pathetic he was when he was begging for Ashley to choose him. And even before he finally admitted that he likes her.

He better not forget how he would pass out in different bars, crying and asking for a chance.

What an asshole!

I gave out a triumphant smile. “The golden rule, my friend…” I teased him.

He rolled his eyes and took out his phone instead. He must be texting Ashley because that’s what he always does. He always tells me that I am whipped but looking at him now, it’s just even. Or maybe he’s won that.

A notification came on my phone. It’s an email confirming my booking for New York. I pursed my lips in a thin line as a pang of pain crossed my chest.

What kind of idiocy is this, Kai? I fucking want to laugh at myself.

I shut my eyes. No! I shouldn’t go.

God knows how much I want to stop hurting. God knows how much I want all the pain to end. God knows how much I want to be happy. I want to be happy again. I want to live again.

And seeing Eunique would not make me happy. She’ll only going to slow it all down for me. She’s only going to add to the pain I am feeling.

I took a deep breath as I cancelled my ticket confirmation. That’s right, Kai. Stop it now until you still have a face to show in front of everyone.

She’s just a girl. There are a lot of girls out there. If she can leave you like you’re some fucking hot potato then you can act as if nothing happened, too. It’s not that hard.

“Hey,” Kris called. “There’s a party at Byron’s tonight. Do you want to come?”

I looked at him. “What time?” I asked.

Kris blinked at me, as if shocked on how I answered him.

Why? Did he not think I would want to come?

“It starts at nine,” he replied when he seemed to be back on his feet.

I checked my schedule and saw that it is clear tonight. Good, I don’t have any boring meetings to attend to. I looked at the folders on my right. I am almost done.

For that past nights, I have been drinking. But never had I thought that drinking was fun. Drinking was my coping mechanism. Drinking was my way to forget the pain even for a while.

But tonight, it’s going to be different. I will drink and have fun. Enough moping. Enough bargaining. Enough thinking.

“Okay,” I replied and then proceeded to finish the pending folders.

Kris raised his brow at me. “No crying, dude. There will be a lot of guests…”

I smirked at him. But then he’s seen me drunk. He’s seen my ability to cry for Eunique. “Let’s just have fun, Kris…”

He laughed and shook his head. “Then, we’ll be with you…”

I nodded. I guess, it’s time to flush Eunique out of my system tonight.
