It’s been two days since the incident happened. Mom’s already conscious, as Eurick told me, but I never did try to visit her. I’m scared. I’m scared that she might deteriorate once more when she sees me. I don’t want her to get worse because of me.
Eujean still hasn’t talked to me since the incident. She’s been in the hospital for days and Eurick only brings her clothes to change on every day. I can’t blame her for the cold treatment, though. I honestly think that I deserved it.
On the brighter note, I am glad that Dad is not against my relationship with Kai. I don’t know what happened but I think Kai told him something that made him feel a bit more comfortable.
Meanwhile, Rachel is still on her solo campaign about her wedding with Kai. This time, she even invited Kai’s parents on the press conference.
“We are all so excited about the wedding,” Mrs. Bennett was smiling while looking around the press. “My son isn’t saying something about the wedding. I think it’s going to be a surprise.”
Kai wrapped his arm around my waist as we watched his parents on the screen with his lunatic ex-girlfriend. He pulled me closer and chuckled on my ear. “They look crazy to me,” he whispered.
We’re inside our house. Yes, he can come in our house. On how he got Dad’s approval, I don’t know. I have no idea on how he managed to tame my dad.
I smiled and felt his lips on my earlobe. He’s right. They all are crazy thinking about these things when Kai is beside me instead of preparing for their wedding.
“How’s your mother?” he asked me.
I smiled weakly. He knows my bad relationship with my mother. He knows that we aren’t in proper terms. I just get updates from Eurick and Dad.
“Eurick said she’s going to be transferred in a regular room today,” I replied and smiled.
He nodded and planted a kiss on my cheek. “That’s good to know…” He smiled. “Aren’t you going to visit her?”
I smiled weakly and shook my head. I don’t want to. I mean, I want to but I can’t. I don’t want to make the situation worse.
He stared at me and hugged me tighter. “It’s okay. If she doesn’t want you here, I want you in our house. It’s so lonely living without you,” he said, making me feel better.
I smiled as he kissed my forehead. Nothing can replace these small moments I have with him. I love him so much that I can’t let him go even if I wanted to.
Days passed and I decided to resign from the office. Kai wasn’t amenable to it but I told him that I didn’t want to continue working here with him as my boss. It doesn’t look good, especially because I am the HR Head. I should the one following the rules but here I am, dating my boss.
My members didn’t question my decision but they all said they’re going to miss me. And yes, I am going to miss them too. For the time I stayed with Nildex, they have been my friends. I guess I won’t survive Nildex without them.
“Let me help you until the façade, Miss Eunique.” John volunteered.
I smiled and shook my head. “No, you need to finish what you’re doing now,” I told him. I know they are slumped with a lot of work right now that the company is facing a crisis.
John sighed and nodded. He must have known that he has a lot more responsibilities now. He’s named the head of the HR Department after my resignation. I feel so bad making him take over when the company’s not going well right now.
Kai waited for me at the lobby of Nildex. He’s wearing a dark blue button-down polo with a pair of white pants. He’s looking at me with a smile on his face as I neared him.
“These are all your things?” he asked as he motioned to get the box from my hands.
I nodded and let him take the load. “I didn’t stay here long so I don’t have much thing,” I replied as I walked beside him towards the main door where his car is waiting for us.
The people around are looking at us, curious and confused. Who wouldn’t be when Rachel Grey keeps on saying that she’s going to marry Kai days from now?
Kai’s working on our problem with Rachel Grey problem but the woman just couldn’t accept the fact that she’s not going to marry my man. No, she wouldn’t. Not when I’m still alive.
I stopped walking when I saw Rachel Grey and her cousin, Paris Frank, walking to the building. They saw us and stopped in front of us.
I eyed Paris Frank who was looking at me as well. What the freak is his problem?
“Rachel,” Kai gritted his teeth as he looked at Paris. I already told him about Paris taking the pictures at Byron’s resort.
Rachel Grey smiled at Kai then glared at me. “What’s this? You’re blatantly cheating on me?” she asked.
Paris Frank smirked at her remark and bit his lip as he looked at me.
Kai pushed him back when he noticed him looking at me. “Eyes off my girl, fucker,” he said as he gritted his teeth. He’s mad.
Paris Frank looked at Kai and smiled. “Your girl is my cousin,” he corrected. “You’re going to marry my cousin but why are you with another girl?”
Kai placed the box down and grabbed Paris Frank’s collar. “I said, stop staring at my girl.” He gritted his teeth. He’s fuming but Paris Frank was just smiling like a lunatic. Well, what can I say? His cousin is a lunatic! Maybe it runs in the blood!
I held Kai’s hand, afraid that some people might see this. “Let’s just go,” I whispered to him as he was still glaring at Paris Frank.
“What’s your problem, huh?” Kai ignored my comment and still lunged Paris Frank.
Rachel Grey smiled. “Paris just wants us to get married as planned,” she interrupted and I badly wanted to smash her face on the edge of the stairs. She really just doesn’t know where to place herself.
“You cheated on my cousin. I saw it. I posted it just to spite you,” Paris Frank replied. “I hate womanizers, especially when my family’s involved.”
Kai motioned to punch Paris Frank but I held him back.
“Let’s just go!” I held his arm and pulled him away from Paris Frank.
He’s just trying to get to him and he’s slowly winning! Damn lunatic!
Kai threw them another look and pointed a finger at them. “You can all take the company, I don’t care,” he replied. “Just be happy with your own money because I’m never getting married to your cousin!” He finished before taking the box and placing it inside his car.
I glanced back at where Paris Frank and Rachel Grey are and sighed. I don’t know if they need sympathy or what.
Kai was cursing and hitting the steering wheel until we arrived at our gate. He looked at me and sighed. “I’m sorry, honey. Do I scare you?” he asked in the softest voice.
I smiled at him and shook my head. In fact, I am admiring him more and more. He’s done everything for me. He’s done everything for my sake. I think I need to do the same.
He sighed in relief. “I’m sorry. I just didn’t really want other men looking at you like that.” He bit his lip and closed his eyes. “Dammit! Just thinking about it makes me want to break someone’s face.”
I chuckled and held his hand.
He looked at me with the most beautiful pair of eyes I have ever seen in this world.
“No matter how many men would look at me, you’re the only one that I would see,” I told him.
He smiled and planted a quick kiss on my lips. “You know what they say? The best feeling is when you’re looking at the one that makes you happy and see that she’s already looking?” he asked.
I smiled.
“I love you, Eunique,” he whispered as he caressed my cheek. “No matter what they say, we’ll never break.”
I smiled and nodded. “Never,” I whispered as I welcomed his lips with mine. There’s nothing more that would matter to me now other than the two of us.
Kai walked me inside our house with his fingers laced with mine. I’ve never been this complete. I’ve never been this happy.
We stopped by the living room and saw Eujean sitting with Dad and Eurick. They’re watching the news.
I narrowed my eyes at the TV screen and recognized myself on it.
Damn it! It’s the scene earlier! Kai was holding onto Paris Frank’s collar, looking so mad and raging.
“Nildex Shipping’s CEO caught in an affair with an employee,” the title of the news said.
I felt Kai’s grip on my hand tighten the moment the interview started. It’s Rachel Grey who’s crying and Paris Frank who’s so mad beside her.
I felt my stomach churn as I watch them look down on me in the television.
“Days before the planned wedding, Nildex Shipping’s CEO caught in an affair with the HR Department Head.”
I wanted to smack the reporter’s face as she uttered the words wrong. She doesn’t know the whole story.
“I thought everything’s alright,” Rachel Grey sobbed. “Little did I know that my fiancé is cheating on me with an ordinary employee,” she finished as she sobbed even more.
Paris Frank tried to comfort her. “We’re still thinking about what’s the best thing to do. I’m pretty sure Miss Eunique James wouldn’t admit to this doing.”
I narrowed my eyes at the screen as I heard Kai’s heavy sigh. “These fuckers wouldn’t really—”
Eujean saw me and immediately stood up, rushing towards me to give me a hard slap. “You’re such a bitch, Eunique! You’re a relationship wrecker!”
“Eujean!” Dad yelled.
“What the fuck?!” Kai cursed at my sister as he placed me behind him to protect me. My vision is getting blurred as they continued to shout at each other.
“She’s a mistress! A damn bitch who wanted a rich man so she could get out of this house! She’s fed up of all of us! She’s a useless first-born! I wish she wasn’t born in this world so Mom would still be healthy—”
I heard a loud impact before everything turned black.
