The Chosen Luna: Alpha’s Unwanted Daughter

Chapter 769

Ch. 759 / 790 May 05, 2026

The packhouse was quieter than usual, the typical buzz of activity replaced by a heavy, suffocating tension. Everyone was on edge, their nerves frayed as the night of the ritual drew near. Even the wolves, usually resilient and unshaken, seemed subdued, their movements careful and their voices hushed. It felt as though the very air carried the weight of what was to come.

Bella sat in the corner of the nursery, her fingers brushing gently against Rosalie’s tiny hand. The baby’s breathing was shallow, each rise and fall of her chest sending waves of fear through Bella. She hadn’t left Rosalie’s side all day, too afraid to step away for even a moment.

“She looks so small,” Bella whispered, her voice barely audible.

Kael stood behind her, his arms crossed tightly over his chest. His jaw was clenched, and his golden eyes flickered with emotions he couldn’t express. He wanted to comfort Bella, to reassure her that everything would be fine, but the words felt hollow even before they formed. Instead, he knelt beside her, placing a hand on her shoulder.

“She’s strong, Bella,” he said softly. “Stronger than either of us could ever imagine.”

Bella let out a shaky breath, her eyes never leaving Rosalie’s pale face. “I’m supposed to protect her,” she murmured, her voice breaking. “But I can’t do anything. I feel so… powerless.”

Kael’s hand tightened slightly on her shoulder. “You’re not powerless,” he said firmly. “You’re here, fighting for her. That’s more than most people could do.”

Bella didn’t respond, her focus still on Rosalie. A tear slipped down her cheek, and Kael reached out to wipe it away.

“We’re going to get through this,” he said, though his own voice wavered slightly. “Adam knows what he’s doing.”

At the mention of Adam, Bella’s gaze finally lifted, searching Kael’s face for reassurance. “Do you trust him?” she asked, her voice trembling.

Kael hesitated, his silence stretching for a moment too long. Finally, he sighed. “I trust that he wants to help,” he said carefully. “But… I don’t think even he knows how this will end.”

Downstairs, the tension was unbelievable . The pack had gathered in small groups, their voices hushed as they discussed the impending ritual. Misery leaned against the wall, her sharp gaze scanning the room. She didn’t speak, but her presence alone was enough to keep the others in check.

Lira paced back and forth, her hands wringing together. “Do you think this will work?” she asked quietly, directing her question to Misery.

Misery didn’t answer immediately, her expression unreadable. Finally, she said, “Adam wouldn’t have agreed if he didn’t think there was a chance.”

Lira stopped pacing, her brow furrowed. “But what if it’s not enough?”

Misery’s gaze hardened. “It has to be.”

Upstairs, Adam was preparing the ritual room. The space had been cleared of all unnecessary furniture, the floor scrubbed clean and marked with intricate symbols drawn in chalk and infused with magical energy. Candles lined the perimeter, their flames flickering with an otherworldly glow.

Eryon stood in the doorway, watching as Adam worked. “Everything’s in place?” Eryon asked.

Adam didn’t look up, his focus entirely on the symbols he was perfecting. “Almost,” he said curtly. “This isn’t something that can be rushed.”

Eryon crossed his arms, leaning against the doorframe. “You’re sure about this?”

Adam straightened, finally meeting Eryon’s gaze. “No,” he admitted. “But it’s the best chance she has.”

Eryon nodded slowly, his expression grim. “Bella and Kael are counting on you.”

“I know,” Adam said. His tone was calm, but there was an edge to it, a weight that betrayed the pressure he felt. “And I won’t let that child die. Not if I can help it.”

As the evening wore on, the tension only grew. Bella and Kael joined Adam in the ritual room, their expressions a mix of fear and determination. Bella carried Rosalie in her arms, her grip firm but gentle.

Adam turned to face them, his eyes briefly flicking to the baby before settling on Bella. “Are you ready for this?” he asked.

Bella nodded without hesitation. “I’ll do whatever it takes,” she said, her voice steady despite the fear in her eyes.

Kael stepped closer, his protective instincts flaring. “What exactly are you going to do?” he demanded.

Adam met his gaze evenly. “The ritual will draw out the dark magic infecting her and force her hybrid energy to fight it off,” he explained. “But it won’t be easy. The magic won’t just fight the spell—it will fight her, too.”

Bella’s breath hitched, but she didn’t falter. “She’s strong,” she said firmly. “She can handle it.”

Adam studied her for a moment, then nodded. “Let’s hope so,” he said.
