The Chosen Luna: Alpha’s Unwanted Daughter

Chapter 777

Ch. 767 / 790 May 05, 2026

Kael stood at the head of the long meeting table, his eyes scanning the gathered pack leaders. The air was thick with tension, and every face reflected a mix of relief and apprehension. “Esmera may be gone,” Kael began, his deep voice resonating through the room, “but that doesn’t mean we can let our guard down. We need to ensure there’s no one left who can continue her work—or worse, use her death as an opportunity to rise.”

A murmur rippled through the room. Misery nodded, her arms crossed. “I’ve already begun scrying for traces of her magic. If any of her allies remain active, we’ll find them.”

Kael inclined his head. “Good. I want every rogue group near our borders monitored. No one gets in or out without clearance. Spread the word to our neighboring packs—if they’ve heard anything, I want to know about it immediately.”

Darius, one of Kael’s most trusted lieutenants, leaned forward. “What about Esmera’s hideout? Should we investigate it further?”

Kael hesitated, remembering Misery’s earlier warning. “Not yet. The risk of lingering magic is too great. For now, focus on the rogues. If we uncover anything that points us back to her stronghold, we’ll deal with it then.”

The meeting continued, plans forming as Kael delegated tasks to each leader. Despite the progress, an unease lingered in the room, a shadow that no amount of preparation could dispel.

In the nursery, Bella sat by Rosalie’s crib, her gaze fixed on her daughter’s sleeping form. Rosalie had grown stronger over the past few days, her once-pale complexion now healthy and flushed with life. Bella smiled softly as Rosalie stirred, her tiny hand reaching out as if sensing her mother’s presence.

“She’s getting stronger every day,” Misery said, entering the room quietly.

Bella looked up, her expression a mix of hope and worry. “She is. But I can’t stop thinking about what Esmera said in that letter. ‘More than you know.’ What does that even mean?”

Misery stepped closer, her sharp eyes studying Rosalie. “It could mean anything—or nothing. Esmera was a master manipulator. Even in death, she’s trying to control you.”

Bella sighed, brushing her fingers gently over Rosalie’s dark hair. “Maybe. But I can’t shake the feeling that she wasn’t lying. There’s something we’re missing.”

Misery didn’t respond immediately. Instead, she focused on Rosalie, her aura shimmering faintly under the nursery’s soft light. “You’ve noticed it, haven’t you?”

Bella frowned. “Noticed what?”

“Her aura,” Misery said, motioning toward Rosalie. “It’s not just hybrid. It’s… different. Stronger. I don’t think we’ve even begun to see what she’s capable of.”

Bella’s stomach tightened. “Stronger? What does that mean for her?”

Misery’s expression softened. “It means she’ll need you, Bella. More than most children need their mothers. Her power will make her a target, but it will also make her extraordinary. You and Kael will have to guide her, teach her how to control it. But for now, let her be a child. Let her grow.”

Bella nodded, her resolve hardening. She wouldn’t let fear dictate her life—or Rosalie’s. “Thank you, Misery. For everything.”

Misery smiled faintly. “That’s what family is for.”

Later that evening, Bella approached Kael in his office. He was seated at his desk, reviewing patrol reports, but he looked up immediately when she entered.

“How’s Rosalie?” he asked, setting the papers aside.

“Better,” Bella said with a small smile. “Misery thinks her aura is getting stronger. She said she might even rival me one day.”

Kael’s lips quirked into a half-smile. “That doesn’t surprise me. She’s got your fire.”

Bella chuckled softly before her expression grew serious. “I want to plan a celebration. Something for the whole pack. To officially introduce her.”

Kael raised an eyebrow. “Are you sure it’s the right time? Things are still… uncertain.”

“That’s exactly why we need to do it,” Bella insisted. “The pack has been through so much. We all need something to celebrate. And Rosalie deserves to be welcomed properly.”

Kael considered her words before nodding. “You’re right. Let’s do it. But we’ll need to take precautions. I’ll make sure security is airtight.”

Bella smiled, relief washing over her. “Thank you, Kael.”

He stood and pulled her into his arms, resting his chin on her head. “We’ll get through this, Bella. Together.”

The next morning, as preparations for the celebration began, Lira approached Kael in the training yard. Her expression was grave, her voice low. “Alpha, we need to talk.”

Kael wiped the sweat from his brow, his instincts immediately on edge. “What is it?”

Lira glanced around, ensuring no one was within earshot. “Esmera’s death doesn’t mean the danger is gone. You know as well as I do that power vacuums never stay empty for long. There’s always someone waiting to take her place.”

Kael’s jaw tightened. “You think someone’s already stepping up?”

“I think it’s only a matter of time,” Lira replied. “We need to be ready. Whoever takes her place might be even worse.”

Kael nodded, his mind racing. “Then we’ll be ready. Whatever it takes.”
