"I spoke to Maria about what happened and she told me that he had received a call in the afternoon and soon after that he went straight away to the cellar and took out two bottles of wine and was drinking it continuously and by the evening he was drunk he had slept out in the porch the whole evening and after waking up he took some beer cans from the kitchen and quietly went to the dock house."
"Maria did not say anything to him because she knew that dad is fond of alcohol but when she called him for dinner, he did not respond, she urged him continuously to come and have dinner but he did not respond at all and after banging the door for almost fifteen minutes be called me. He has never done this kind of stuff before. Maria was very scared . Even I was scared Callie ! He is my only family apart from aunt Steff, I can't afford to lose him.
I sat a little closer to him and held his hand assuring him that I am there with him no matter what happens .
" I don't think you should leave your dad alone out here. It would be safer if he stays with you ." I said softly.
Hudson shook his head and said. "He's going to come over to my place tomorrow night. He glanced at his watch and realized that it was quite late and said. " What did Jayden say when you called him to tell him that you were not going back today.
I looked at him lovingly and took his face in both my hands and kissed him lightly.
"He said, you need me , so I should stay back. Was he right Hudson ?"
Hudson smiled and said." Yes he is absolutely right, I do need you Callie ." He said and started kissing me passionately.
Jeremy Matthew's arrived at his office early after being away a few days for business. Jennifer his secretary had not yet arrived. It was just as well since he wanted to be alone for some time. He picked up his cell phone and called up the remand hospital.
He identified himself as Logan Brown's attorney and asked to speak with him.
"He's no longer admitted here." Came the reply.
"Excuse me he has been admitted there for the past one year and had been unconscious. Where exactly was he taken away?"
"I am sorry, but I am not allowed to give out that information over the phone. If you would like to come down in person or make an official inquiry in writing, you are welcome to do so......"
Jeremy slammed down the phone and collapsed in his chair. Was Logan dead? Had they acting to be unconscious and the doctor who attended him was his childhood buddy.
He clamped his fingers around the edge of his desk. He opened his desk drawer and took out his old diary and remembered that he was supposed to receive some important documents a few days back. . He got up and went to his secretary's work area. Normally, any mail arriving at the office would be included in the appropriate case file. However, there were no new documents. He wondered whether Jennifer had placed it somewhere else.
As if the answer to his questions his secretary walked inside the office. And she was surprised and shocked to see him but smiled warmly and said. " Why are you early today, Mr. Matthew."
Jeremy smiled back and said. "Trying to catch up on a few things Jennifer." He edged away from her desk as she made her way towards her table.
However, Jennifer was very smart and noticed his discomfort and asked. " Are you looking for something?"
"Well, now that you have mentioned it, there were some important documents which were supposed to arrive via courier and I don't see any new mail. I had forgotten to inform you about it"
Her next words brought a sigh of relief on Jeremy's face.
"So it was an important mail? As it came by courier I thought it must be something important so I had kept it in the locker, please give me a minute I will get it for you."
Jennifer went inside and came back with an envelope and gave it to Jeremy.
"Oh, there are a lot of phone messages that came while you were out of town. I tried to prioritize them for you."
He gave her hand a nice squeeze. "You are my beloved efficient secretary, what would I do without you !" He said very gallantly.
She smiled and started to fuss with her desk.
Jeremy went back to his office, closed the door and looked down at the documents. His hands were shaking when he opened the envelope as he had done a lot of hard works to get his hands on those documents. But he was worried about Logan and was praying that he would be safe.
Jeremy had planned to spend the morning going to the court to sort out a few cases, which needed his attention right away or his client might get pissed off. But before that he had to meet a man about some land disputes so he was waiting for him and after some time he arrived.
The man had brought with him a copy of The Seattle Times. While the man accepted a cup of coffee from Jennifer, Jeremy ideally ran his eye over the headlines and one of the news caught his attention. The man noticed what Jeremy was doing.
" Damn, psycho killer," He said, nodding at the story Jeremy was focused on. "It seems this serial killer is not scared at all and is targeting helpless women. The police are not able to trace him. I am too scared to send my wife out these days."
"How many murders happened while I was away?" Jeremy whispered.
"There were two reported cases this week, one was the attempted murder of Wanda William and the very armature, call girl. it is said she was very young and he killed her brutally but Wanda was saved as the cut was not that severe." The man said flatly.
Jeremy stared at him for a moment and then looked down at the paper and the photo in it, it looked very ugly. And the caption said. " Suspect was the same serial killer."
He tightly gripped the paper as he stared at dead women's photos.
He then excused himself and slipped into his office, where he dialed the police commissioner's number.
He was informed that he was in a meeting so Jeremy took an appointment for the Mid-morning and cut the call.
The details of the calls that Jennifer had collected, while he had been away was sitting on his tabletop and he ideally skimmed through them, returning the one's which were most important but when he saw many calls from that number, he found it very familiar and knew it was Levi Brown, Logan 's brother and he called him at least five times.
Oh my god. He muttered under his breath. He punched his intercom and told Jennifer he wasn't feeling well, to convey that to his visitor.
" I won't be back today," he told her as he hurried through the reception area. I hope I will someday and not in a coffin, he added silently.
"All right, Mr. Matthew, you take care."
He almost laughed at her remark.
He called up his wife before leaving the office but his wife was not picking up his phone. As he drove along, he had already made up his mind about what he was going to do. Then he decided to focus on his plan about the holiday he had planned with his wife and decided to go to Hawaii, one last dose of sun and water before the eyes set in. Only they might stay awhile. He had preferred to pour his savings into staying alive than into securing the view of Florida sunset he might never get a chance to see.
He decided they would drive down to New York, hop a commuter flight and take it to Canada or Washington and from there they could go anywhere. He could explain it to his wife by saying he's just being spontaneous, something she had said, he never was at never could be. Good old steady reliable Lawyer. Did nothing more with his life than work hard, pay his bills, raise his kids, love his wife and try to catch a few strands of happiness along the way. Lord, I am already writing my obituary, he realized.
