Ch. 14 / 66 Apr 18, 2026

Author's POV

Steffanie William, Hudson aunt's followed a fixed routine by going for a jog early in the morning and doing some stretching. She would wake up always on time and prepare some coffee and would sit and look over her cases and prepare for oral arguments on the court.

But today out of the blue moon she had decided to take a holiday and spend some time with her husband but she had forgotten about it completely and was busy preparing for the hearing for the next day. But her maid came and reminded her about the lunch and she was pulled back from her work.

She was checking her phone when she realized that she had not spoken to her nephew and called him up to invite him for dinner.

She never took no for an answer from Hudson and was going to lecture him but that smart chap had already cut the call.

She smiled at her nephew, as she knew that he was very stubborn but she did not mind as Hudson had a very miserable childhood and she could understand him wanting to stay away from his family but she was stubborn too and loved him dearly, as he was her only nephew. Her sister died in a tragic accident and her brother-in-law had married another woman but had divorced her as well. And his affairs were unlimited and would be always flashed on the front page.

He never got over Hudson's mother and she knew it as he always wore the watch given by her even till now. Although it had stopped working but distracted himself by getting involved with pretty leggy girls.

Both father and son had never been close to each other, as Hudson hated the way his father was involved with other women and ignored him altogether since his childhood.

Hudson became rebellious and did not want to have anything to do with his father. He loved his stepsister who was born from the woman he had married after his mom's death.

He pampered her and spoiled her.

His dad was never bothered about his second family but sent allowances regularly. He is a rich hotelier and has hotels all around the world. And wanted Hudson to take control of his empire but Hudson refused.

Steffanie Williams's POV

As she finished her call she thought back about the past seventeen years of her life as a lawyer. It had been a hell lot of a roller coaster ride. Because of her gender, she was automatically seen not only as an achiever in her profession but also as a woman who had collaborated with women's rights and helped them seek justice. She was a lawyer and not a politician, so she had to look at each case separately.

The decisions of the court were so far-reaching that the justice was forced to go beyond the four corners of each case. And it's been one of the hardest things for her to get through, as she had to handle different kinds of cases.

She looked around her luxurious Villa and wondered, if she and her husband had a good life together. They actively participated in a lot of charitable functions and had a big social circle.

But there were very few people whom she could call friends, as when you have a profession like a lawyer, friends stop calling, people treat you differently and are always guarded when they are around her.

Her husband had always been outgoing and she was happy to have him around her life even if she didn't have friends she was not bothered.

As if in answer to her thoughts, Jackson Harris who had returned from the golf course, came behind her and gave her a tight hug.

"You know, when you take a holiday, you should rest and snuggle in bed, as it is good for your soul." He said softly.

She kissed his hand and turned to hug him.

"I never told you to go to the golf course and if you had been around maybe I would have done that."

"We should both do it together then, who knows what it could lead to? I have read that sex is the best defence against ageing." He said seductively.

Jackson Harris , was a tall and sturdy man and had slight grey hair and tanned skin, which suited his personality. He was definitely a good-looking man. He could always be seen on the front page of a local magazine and newspapers and national TV shows as he was very witty.

"You certainly have some interesting opinions."

She took a sip of her coffee while she looked over her papers.

"So how was your game today?"

"Oh it was fine but I missed a lot of shots and I was very disappointed," he said in a dejected voice.

She put an alarm around his shoulders. "Honey you are feeling bad just for a game, Cheer up I have to tell you something."

"Even I wanted to tell you something. you go ahead and tell me what is it?"

"I've invited Hudson for dinner as I have not met him for a long time, I hope you don't mind." She said excitedly.

"Why should I mind he's the only family you have and I'm happy that you are taking out time for him. Did he actually agree to drop by?" Jackson asked curiously.

Steffanie smiled and said. "Do you think he would have refused it."

Jackson chuckled but did not say anything.

" So what did you want to tell me."

"Well I was thinking of running for the election again!" he exclaimed softly.

She pulled her arm away. "But we haven't talked about it."

" I know. We are both very busy. Too many demands at a time. When things settle down we'll talk, I think we have to."

"You sound very serious Jackson is everything okay." Steffanie said with concern.

"Everything is fine, I'm just in a dilemma whether I should run again but I wanted to talk to you about it first."

Steffanie started to say something and then stopped as she remembered that she had to go into the kitchen to prepare dinner because Hudson may arrive anytime and she wanted to feed him.

As if understanding her expression, Jackson grabbed the glass of water from the table and kissed her on the cheek. "Go to the kitchen wifey as the kitchen is all yours. I'll be down in my study."

As Jackson walked off , she rubbed her face where he had kissed it. She tried to study her paper once more but she found she could not. She got up abruptly and walked towards the kitchen her mind suddenly whirling in many different directions.
