By weekend, at a few minutes before midnight, Adrian stepped out of his apartment, dressed in a hooded outfit, his beards overgrowing and a tinted car approached him, he got in and the car zoomed off out of sight.
Everyone was seated when the boss arrived. He was dressed in a mask, only his eyes were visible. His face and body were all covered up and even his hands were having gloves on it.
Everything appeared mysterious. No one knows who the boss is nor what his name is. When the company was acquired a few months ago, the deal was done and sealed before they knew it.
But within that time to the present, the networth of the company has tripled and they were producing new products which would be launched in a couple of weeks.
And since the growth of the company meant more share in the profit for them, they didn't press more to know the identity of the new CEO.
“...We have few slots for other partners who want to become a part of our team. This will be thrown to the public and we would pick only the qualified ones…” the acting CEO was giving an update.
“I will do the approval” The boss declared. All the directors nodded and exchanged glances. If those companies who desire partnership want to ask questions about the prerequisite for the selection, how can they answer them?
“Sir, we know next to nothing about you. How do we answer those who ask us questions?” One of the shareholders asked, he put his audacity to work and see what the outcome would be.
“Are you speaking for yourself or speaking the mind of all?” The boss asked, his fingers tapping the desk gently. Behind the mask was a broad smile.
He hadn't smiled or laughed in a long time. This man's question amuses him. That's exactly how he wanted it until the launching of the company.
“The mind of all sir” he replied.
“Jeremy Blackthorn, I'd prefer you speak for yourself henceforth. Never speak for others, no matter what happens in this life” the boss declared before adding ”I'll reveal my identity at the grand launching of our new product”
“On that sir, what would be the chosen brand name for the product?” The head of the marketing team asked. So far, the product has been waiting for a brand name.
“Broken bonds” the boss declared and everyone turned, glancing at each other. This title carries a lot of meaning, but they all settled for that.
The meeting went on, some documents were signed and the final date of the release of the product was fixed.
Others don't know why but wondered why the board meeting has to be held at midnight every time. This isn't convenient for them all but the boss decided it was so.
And no one can contradict him because he owned 75% share of the company. He was ready to buy more and be the sole owner of the business. Everyone threads gently with him.
When all was concluded and over, the boss stood up and declared the meeting over as he strode out of the hall in magnificent strides. He got into the elevator and went off.
As Nelson stepped out of the car in his hooded jacket, he was stunned to meet Jess at his door. He glanced at his watch, it's minutes past 5 am.
Jess was dazed when she saw Nelson. Her mom has a cardiac arrest and she came to find him for help but he wasn't responding. She decided to keep hitting the door to his apartment until perhaps he would wake up and come over to help when she saw him arrive from only he knows where.
She glanced at Nelson as he ignored her and went to use the door lock when Jess said “I need your help Nel. Mom has a cardiac arrest again” he declared, her voice shaking.
Nelson paused and glanced at her briefly before walking briskly towards the opposite apartment. He got there and saw Margaret Gordon laying helplessly on the floor.
Forgetting about his documents stuffed under his jacket, he lifted her and went off. As they arrived at the hospital, the bills needed to be taken care of.
Jess works as a teacher in the public school while her entire income goes in taking care of her mother and paying for her drugs. She has never said a word of it to Nelson.
“Mrs Gordon needs surgery. That's the only way to keep her safe and alive” the doctor discloses. Her health had been kept on the stage of management, now the right approach is to be taken to keep her safe.
“Can you do the surgery and save my mom's life? I'll pay the bills instalmentally” Jess pleaded. At this time, her tears are now cascading seamlessly down her cheeks.
“I'm sorry Miss. We don't do that here. You'll make the payment in full before we can start attending to her” the doctor declared.
“And if not?” Nelson demanded. Someone is dying and they can only think about making payments first before saving the person's life? Is that how they operate there?
“We won't be able to help out. Excuse me” The doctor declared and wanted to go away when Nelson yanked him by his white hospital coat, forcing him to stare back at him.
“You will attend to that patient now. If you don't, and anything happens to her, you'll be her escort in death!” Nelson bellowed.
His gaze was fierce and his grip was hard. The doctor stared back at him and glanced at him, his outfit, his scruffy beards and looks and chuckled aloud.
Some stupid fools think they can walk into the hospital to talk authoritatively at him and expect him to listen to them? One of such fools is the one staring at him in hostility at the moment.
“We don't have a hospital ward to admit some psychopath now. Can you check back tomorrow?” The doctor mocked and pushed Nelson's hands off him.
Jess quickly came over and clasped her hands. “Please just save my mother first and I will pay, I mean to say, we'll pay all of our bills” she said, glancing at Nelson, winking at him to help out.
“I already told you what you need to do, excuse me” he declared and walked away, giving Nelson a menacing stare before doing so.
Nelson glared at his retreating back view and hissed between gritted teeth. He dares to refer to him as a psychopath? He'll return back to him in a few days.
“What do we do now, Nel? My Mom is going to die, if nothing is done” she started sobbing. Nelson pulled her to himself and said “Your mom isn't going to die, I'll sort it out”
He walked away and returned to his apartment. He got in touch with his lawyer in less than ten minutes, the hospital was contacted and Jess, in her confused state, saw the doctors and nurses running around.
Her Mom was wheeled into the theater and she stood dazed. She hadn't gotten the money and Nelson hadn't returned either. She was thinking he was coming back to help out.
For the rest of that morning, Nelson didn't step out of his apartment. He knew work had begun already but he wasn't going to forgive that doctor, he would deal with him.
After some time, he sent an email to a certain person and told him what to do:
