Leah's POV
I opened my eyes and saw Finn walking away from me.
Looking at his back, I felt that my heart was shuttered into thousands of pieces.
I wanted to call him back, but when I opened my mouth, nothing came out.
I curled up and started to cough, gliding down to the floor.
Jalin came in and found me curling on the floor. He rushed forward and held me up.
"My Goddess, Leah. You're burning like a stove. What happened?" Jalin said.
I didn't say anything but pressed my face against Jalin's chest, starting to cry out.
"What the fuck are you looking at, Farrow?! Call Dr. Monk!" Jalin shouted.
That was the last thing I heard when I passed out into oblivion.
Jalin's POV
"What happened to Leah?!" Lucian's voice was so loud that I didn't even have to put him on the speaker.
"She's fine. She caught a bad cold and there was some remaining fluid in her chest. It triggered mild pneumonia..." I said.
"Pneumonia?! Is she dying?!" Lucian shouted.
I love Lycans. They're so adorable. They're like three-year-olds. They only pick up the words they want to hear and ignore others.
"Dr. Monk has been working on her all morning. She's sleeping right now. She's fine," I said.
"Why is there fluid in her lungs?! Where has she been?!" Lucian asked.
She went to a sex dungeon, got drugged, threw herself off a bridge, and floated on the sea for a whole stormy night. She smelt like dead fish when she was back, by the way. I thought to myself.
"She didn't put on enough clothes and caught a cold," I said.
"What have you been doing?! You're supposed to remind her of adding more clothes!" Lucian sounded grumpy.
What have I been doing? Mmmh. Let me think about it. Someone wants to kill your sister and I have to investigate it. Your sister is hanging out with a Genetically Modified weirdo who pretends to be retarded to win her sympathy for some undetermined purpose. Oh, by the way, your sister is living with her ex-mate in the lake house now. I have been busy preventing the world from falling apart while you're enjoying a SPA trip with your lovely little girlfriend. How do you like that, Lucian?
"I've been busy preparing the paperwork for our project in the bay area. You know, the bridge and stuff," I said.
"Leah caught a cold and you got me a bridge?!" Lucian's voice sounded hysterical.
"We haven't built that bridge yet, Lucian. We have to bid for the contract and then build the bridge," I replied patiently.
"So you've done nothing," Lucian scolded.
I shut up.
I love Lycans. I love Lycans. I love Lycans.
"I'm going to be back tomorrow for the annual Grand Ball. I want Leah to be recovered by that time. I'll take her to the ball and introduce her to Alpha Dire," Lucian said.
"Haven't you heard of it?" I said. "Alpha Dire has been stabbed by an assassin. He's in critical condition right now. Chances are that he won't make it."
"This resort is in the middle of nowhere. People in the deli shop wrap things with last year's newspaper. I have to call you on a satellite phone. Does that sound like I can stay tuned with the latest news?" Lucian grumbled.
"You took Laura to a deli shop? That's a fourth base activity. So things have been going on well, I guess," I said.
"Nothing is going on well because Leah is sick. I have to come back right now. I can't wait for tomorrow," Lucian said.
Here we go again. He just can't give me a break. Like I haven't got enough things on my plate.
"Relax, Lucian. Leah's sleeping now. She'll be sleeping for a whole night. Even if you came back right now, she wouldn't wake up. So what's the point? Buy some candies for Laura. Girls dig that. Spend the night with her, enjoy your home run, and come back like a champion."
Lucian took a pause for a while and said to someone else on the phone, "Where can I find some candies?"
"Are you in a shop?" I asked.
"I wish. I'm in a convenience store. There's no service in the store. I have to pick up everything." Lucian complained.
Oh, His Highness has to pick up things by himself. No wonder he wasn't in a good mood.
Lucian asked, "So if Alpha Dire couldn't make it, who would take over?"
"One of his sons. The one named Mick," I replied while flickering the news on my mobile.
"The soft one or the hard one?" Lucian asked.
"Are you asking about candies or Alpha Dire's sons?" I asked.
"Both," Lucian replied.
I rubbed my forehead and said, "Always pick the soft candies. And Talon is the hard one. And, uh-oh..." I took a pause.
"What?" Lucian asked.
"Alpha Dire is announced dead. His son Mick Toussaint will become the new Alpha of Rock Growlers Pack." I scrolled the bar on my mobile and said.
"Do we like him or do we hate him?" Lucian asked.
"He set fire and burnt down the Huffner Bridge when he was six, Lucian," I replied. "If it wasn't for him, we wouldn't need to build another bridge."
And he's a cousin of Lucas Farrow. And he wanted to abduct Leah to make a sex tape and post it online. I thought to myself.
I didn't know Mick was out. He's supposed to be locked up at the detention center. I guessed his father must have made a great effort to bail him out. But meanwhile, if Mick was out, that meant Lucas' troublemaker sister Clara was also out. That girl was a total disaster.
"So we hate him, right?" Lucian asked.
"Yeah, Lucian. We hate people who vandalize," I said.
"How did a six-year-old burn down an entire bridge?" Lucian asked.
"By setting fire to it," I replied briefly.
A fucking mad kid is taking over Mediland, and Leah is going to do business with him.
All hell breaks loose now.
