Erika's POV
When the kiss ended, I leaned against his chest. Now I knew why I couldn’t defeat him. His breath was still regular while I was panting.
He carried me in a bridal way and went back to the house.
"Do you think Angel can win?" he asked.
Yes, I’m pretty confident. She is born to be a fighter. I mind-linked him. Just like me.
"I’m happy to hear that. I don’t want you to be punished. By the way, what’s Angel’s gift?"
Speed. It’s very useful in fighting. I mind-linked Derek.
It could be also useful for escaping. If I had her gift, escaping from Derek and his pack would be so easy. But unfortunately, my gift was useless when fighting Derek. By the way, I had a good reason to doubt that the Moon Goddess made Derek my mate because she might fear that I would kill my mate if he was just an ordinary man.
"Interesting. That’s a rare gift," he said thoughtfully.
I raised my chin proudly. If not for me, he would have lost such a good fighter.
"Honestly, I’m happy that I agreed on it. I was very angry when you interfered with my decisions. But now I’m happy that you did so. Although it’s against the pack tradition. I’m willing to change the tradition if it’s beneficial to our pack."
I was quite happy to hear that. The traditions of his pack needed tremendous changes.
"Now we have a good fighter with a rare gift. And you have something to do other than fighting me every day. It’s better to be a teacher than a fighter," he said playfully.
I nodded and forced a smile, while deep inside I was cursing him. I was indeed touched that a dominant Alpha was willing to accept changes because of me, but it suddenly occurred to me that no matter how many changes were made in their pack traditions, I couldn’t be a fighter anymore if I really became their Luna. The only way was to escape. But now that I was teaching Angel, he must be convinced that I wouldn’t escape. All I needed now was to wait for the best occasion.
On our way back, many passers-by looked at us in curiosity. When they recognized that it was their alpha who was carrying a woman, they all lowered their heads immediately.
Their reaction made me feel embarrassed. I hid my head in his chest and didn't want to face them.
"After Blood Day, I’m going to announce to the whole pack that you are the Luna. After then, you are officially Luna and everyone will know it." He suddenly said so and turned to look at me.
What? I mind-linked him. The sudden change of topic caught me by surprise.
I had heard of Blood Day before. there were many rumors about it. It was said that the Blood Moon Pack would kill their captures on that day and drink their blood to celebrate. But it was just a rumor. After all, it was very mysterious and the outsiders were not allowed to join it. Why did he mention it? Would I also join the celebration? And I needed to get out of here before he announced me to be the Luna of the pack.
"Rest assured, we don’t drink blood," Seeing that my face changed, Derek explained with a smile, "I know there are many rumors about it. But they are not true. It’s the biggest day of our pack every year. On that day, everything we drink and eat will be made red, but it’s not that we’ll kill our enemies and drink their blood. We’ll hold a big party and almost every member of our pack will attend it."
Everyone would attend it, except me.
A party? When will it be held? I asked through mind-link and looked very excited. I was not acting. Because it was a good chance for me to escape.
"It’s during the week after the next week. But the exact date is not decided yet. You know, we are a traditional pack. We’ll hold a ritual and let the Moon Goddess decide it. Almost every member would attend the party and there will be a short time when our pack is almost without any guards. So to be safe, the exact date won’t be decided until next Monday and won’t be revealed to the members until three days before it. It’s a top secret." He looked at me and said seriously.
OK. That sounds very exciting. I mind-linked him and thought about it. So at the party, the surveillance would be at its weakest. If I made Derek believe that I wouldn’t and couldn’t escape, he would attend the party and leave me alone without any guard.
But what should I do to make him believe it?
I was still thinking about the question before I met Angel this afternoon. Angel ran over with a meaningful smile on her face and with her gaze on my lips. Looking at her smile, I thought of how she ran away and left me alone with Derek in embarrassment. So I summoned a long whip and slashed it at her.
She could be very fast and daggers couldn’t harm her. But whips weren’t easy to dodge.
She didn’t panic. Instead, when the whip was about to hurt her, she spun her sword rapidly so that the whip wrapped around it tightly. Then she suddenly pulled the sword in her direction. I loosened my grip on it because of the sudden pressure.
Not bad. I mind-linked her with a smile.
She jumped over with a proud smile and put the sword into a sheath.
"I just bought it this morning." She explained.
"Focus on the fight." She made progress at a faster speed than I thought. So I was very strict with her in case she didn’t take the fight seriously.
"OK." She pursed her lips.
We didn’t end until we were both hungry and we went for dinner together. Honestly, I would miss her after I left the pack. But nothing would stop me from escaping.
Over dinner, a new message popped out. It was from Orsen.
