From Gamma to Luna

Chapter 9

Ch. 9 / 98 Jan 10, 2026

Erika's POV

I got a headache and felt very terrible after Derek left. I didn't know why.

What was he doing now? Since he was so mad at me, he would refuse me as his mate, right? Who would want such a violent mate?

Maybe he would announce it next morning. All I needed to do was to sleep. After I woke up next morning, I would be free.

But I failed to fall asleep.

Next morning.

He didn't come back for the rest of the night. He was really mad.

I got up and glanced around the house. It was much bigger than Charles’s house and it was decorated in a traditional way. I kind of liked it but I didn’t want to live here.

I was alone in the house. Would anyone stop me if I stepped out of the house?

I walked to the door and put my hand on the handle.

However, just as I was about to twist the handle, I heard footsteps outside the door. Someone was coming. Not one man, but two men were coming.

My face darkened. I walked back to the sofa, held the cup on the table in my hands, and took a sip although I didn’t know what was in the cup.

After about ten seconds, the door opened. I turned around and looked at the door as if I had just noticed it. Two strangers came in. One was a young man with a smile. The other was middle-aged and looked stern.

“Morning, Luna, I’m Delta Carl. This is Beta Gerald. Derek asked us to accompany you as your guards,” the young man introduced. The man called Gerald nodded to me and said "morning". They both stiffened when they saw the scar on my face.

OK. I mind-linked and nodded to them. They still called me Luna. Did they come here in case I tried to escape?

So Derek wouldn't refuse me as his mate. It was all my wishful thinking.

They both looked surprised that I could mind-link them. Then they exchanged a smile. They must have guessed that Derek had marked me. The delightful looks on their faces annoyed me. But I managed to maintain a smile and didn’t betray any emotion.

In fact, I was wondering whether I could succeed if I killed them both and escaped now that Derek was not here. No, I couldn’t kill them. They were both pack leaders and I couldn’t afford to kill them. Maybe I would just knock them out and escape while Derek was not here.

"I heard that you are the best fighter in your pack, right?" Carl asked as we walked to the sofa.

Not anymore. I'm in your pack now. I shrugged, pretending I had accepted that I no longer belonged to my former pack. By doing so, I tried to let down their guard.

Carl smiled.

I also smiled. It seemed not difficult to pretend to be friendly.

"I heard that you could throw daggers. Is that true?"

Yes. I took off my gloves, summoned three daggers, and threw them in the air. I caught the daggers with my hands and threw them high one by one. I could play it all day long if I wanted.

"That’s an awesome gift! How many daggers can you summon?" He seemed interested in my little trick.

"Well, that's all the weapons I can summon today. I summoned too many weapons yesterday and now I'm out of weapons." I said as I caught the three daggers and put them on a table. Of course, I was lying.

We talked for a while and Carl would burst out into laughter from time to time.

"Honestly, you are different from what I thought. I thought that you would be cruel and aggressive. Alpha Derek warned us to be careful. But it turns out you are different. My baby is really lucky. It’s not even born and Alpha has found the Luna," Carl said excitedly. He kept talking while Gerald just sat there without saying anything. I bet Gerald was a little difficult to deal with. He seemed to be a good fighter.

Well, it’s just… It happened all of a sudden and I find it hard to accept. I mind-linked and shrugged.

"I understand. I think you’ll be a good Luna. It's just a matter of time."

I smiled at him. I almost felt guilty for cheating him. But I had to do so.

So, is Alpha Derek very busy every day? I asked, trying to look as calm as possible.

"Yes, he’s busy. Today he is busy with some Alpha stuff, and won’t be back until the afternoon. So he asked us to be your guard," Carl answered.

Yes! I was so excited hearing his words. He wouldn’t be back until the afternoon, which meant that I had a lot of time to get out of his pack. I tried so hard to withhold a smile.

Of course, he’s the Alpha. I smiled and mind-linked him.

Suddenly, Gerald’s phone rang. He stood up and walked away to the window to answer the phone. It was time.

I jumped up and pounced on Carl while he was off guard. He was agape at what I just did. I covered his mouth with my hand and threatened him to keep quiet with a dagger before he made any sound.

He looked at the dagger in my hand in disbelief.

You said that you were out of daggers today. He mind-linked me.

Sorry. I lied to you. I mind-linked him with a smile on my face and knocked him out. Then I summoned two whips. I tied him with a whip and muffled him with another whip. I hid him under the table. I did all of this quietly and quickly. After this, I shot Gerald a glance. He was still talking on the phone. Good.

A minute later, Gerald came back. He glanced at the house and asked, “Where is Carl?”
