Erika’s POV
“Well… you know… she was my ex-girlfriend and it just happened,” he explained as he stroke my hair.
When did it happen? I asked through mind-link.
“When I just became the Alpha. you know, I was young at that time and I thought the world was my oyster. I didn’t think much before I made decisions. That was where my reputation for being savage came from. I had sex with her although I wouldn’t make her my Luna,” he explained.
I rolled my eyes at his words. During the challenge, Emma did complain about how dominant Derek was. I even felt lucky that I didn’t meet him earlier. Otherwise, it would be a disaster for me.
“Don’t get me wrong. I used to be very dominant. But I made it very clear to her that she wouldn’t be the Luna. It was only about sex and nothing else. You know, it meant nothing. And Emma is already dead. Don’t let it bother you,” he shrugged.
OK. I mind-linked him and calmed down.
I should’ve thought of it. Emma was his ex-girlfriend. It was only natural that they had sex. I was just so angry when I heard about it.
“Wait for a second, you are jealous of her, aren’t you?” Derek asked and raised his eyebrows at me.
I rolled my eyes at him, stood up, and was about to leave. He was talking nonsense. How could I be jealous of a dead woman?
But he grasped my arm and pulled me in his arms. I saw a smirk on his face, so I lowered my head and didn’t want to face him. In fact, I was a little annoyed because I felt that I was seen through by him. I checked and made sure that I blocked him out of my mind.
Although I hated to recognize it, there was no other explanation for my hatred toward Emma. After all, I killed her with my bare hands and I had already taken revenge.
“Erika, you are jealous of her. You are being possessive,” he said while he cupped my chin and raised my face so that I had to look him in the eye.
Of course, not. I denied it immediately.
He looked at me meaningfully as if he had known everything. The cocky smile on his face grew bigger.
I gritted my teeth and punched him in his smiling face. He was too close to me so he failed to avoid it. The smile on his face disappeared. Instead, he grimaced and touched his face with his hand. I broke away from him and stepped back, preparing for his attack.
“Erika, I’m going to teach you a lesson!” He growled and threw a punch at me.
***
Early the next morning. I was still sleeping.
Suddenly, I felt something on my nose and it was tickling. But I didn’t want to open my eyes.
“Erika,” I felt something brush against my ears and it made me shiver.
I sighed and opened my eyes.
What are you doing? I mind-linked Derek.
“Get up, mate,” he whispered to my ears. He was shirtless and his hair was disheveled. It seemed that he had just woken up.
No! I shook my head and closed my eyes. I turned over with my back to him, trying to fall asleep again.
“I'll meet a guy soon,” he said as he pulled back the quilt and patted me on my butt.
So what? None of my business. I mind-linked him, annoyed at being woken up. I grasped the quilt and tried to cover myself with it.
“You need to go with me,” he said and pulled me up.
No! I mind-linked him and flailed my arms. We fought for half an hour last night. And I didn’t take any advantage in the fight. Instead, I got many bruises. So I really needed sleep to heal faster.
“Erika, open your eyes and listen to me carefully,” he said as he forced me to open my eyes and sit up straight.
Seeing that he didn’t give up, I sat up and kept my eyes open although my eyes still drooped and my eyelids felt heavy.
"From now on, everywhere I go, you need to go with me. If you fail to do so, I will consider chaining you with me. I don’t care if others will notice it. Erika, this is order,” he said in a commanding tone.
What? I looked at him with my eyes wide open.
“I mean it. You don’t get to be alone until you are officially announced to be the Luna.”
What? And when will I be announced as Luna? I asked with a frown.
“It’s not decided yet. We’ll know it soon. Now get up now and go with me!” he said as he patted my head.
I rolled my eyes at him and wanted to lie back again. However, he stared at me threateningly. I swallowed hard and got up unwillingly.
I didn’t reject him when he carried me in his arms because I kept yawning and was sleepy. Sleeping in his arms was better than walking by myself.
We arrived at the meeting room. A man was already waiting inside.
He had blonde curly long hair with a pair of gold-edged glasses. He was tall and slim. Who was he? I had never seen him before.
“Hello, Erika.” He greeted me with a big smile on his face. He called my name instead of Luna. That was weird.
I nodded at him. I wanted to say something, but I was surprised to find that I couldn’t communicate with him. So he didn’t belong to the pack?
I looked at Derek in confusion.
Derek introduced him to me, “he is Francis, the Alpha of the West Ford Pack.”
