From Gamma to Luna

Chapter 28

Ch. 28 / 98 Jan 10, 2026

Erika’s POV

When Derek came back, the wolfsbane began to work and my head was spinning. Although I was immune to wolfsbane, I still felt dizzy and nauseated because the poison that I took was enough to kill a wolf. After all, a normal dose didn’t work for me.

I got the wolfsbane from Orsen. This time, he agreed immediately. I asked him to buy it with cash, pulverize it, and mix it with coffee. I got it when I went to the border of the pack to purchase materials for Blood Day.

I opened my eyes slowly and looked at him blankly. I vaguely saw that there were tears on his face, which astonished me. For me, he was a strong and formidable Alpha and there was nothing he feared or worried about. But now, there was thinly-veiled fear on his face.

The… ceremony… I mind-linked him.

He stiffened, dropped the phone on the carpet, and turned to look at me, looking both surprised and worried.

“I’ll postpone it. Don’t worry. I’ll send for a doctor immediately. I’ll find out who did it and I’ll kill him!” He said as he held me tightly in his arms. He was still trembling with fear, looking like he really cared about me. Suddenly, I got cold feet. I couldn’t imagine what his reactions would be when he found out the trick that I played on him. But there was no other choice for me.

Don’t. I’m … fine. I mind-linked him and tried to sit up. My head was still spinning but I felt much better. My body was fighting against the effects of the wolfsbane. That was why I felt so weak.

“Are you sure? How do you feel?”

Don’t … worry. I didn’t drink much. I’m just weak and all I needed is rest. I mind-linked him and stared at his face fixedly, thinking about how long it might take to forget this face. After I got out of this place, I would run as far as I could to minimize the mate bond between us.

“No, you need a doctor. The ceremony is to begin and there is not enough medical staff. Don’t worry, I’ll send you to a hospital near our pack.” He said as he took out his phone.

What? A hospital near our pack? The plan was that I could take a rest in the bedroom while Derek went to host the ceremony. I was weak because of the wolfsbane so our mate bond was also weakened. I could take advantage of the time and get out of there while he had no idea of it.

You are overreacting. I mind-linked him.

“I’m not! You are my mate and the Luna of my pack. I won’t let anything happen to you. I can’t take any risk.” He put me on the sofa and made phone calls. I felt so sleepy and it was hard to understand what he was talking about.

After a while, Derek carried me in his arms, went out of the house, and put me in the backseat of a car. It was not his car and I had never seen this one. Angel showed up the next second. She opened the door and sat beside me. I looked up and there was a driver at the front of the car.

I want to be alone. I want to take a rest. I mind-linked Derek. I didn’t want Angel to go with me because she might get severely punished after I escaped. She had just become a warrior and she couldn’t risk failing her first task.

“I’ll go with her. I won’t take part in the ceremony and the party. It’s OK,” Angel said firmly without hesitation.

I wanted to say something more, but Derek began to command.

“She’s poisoned with wolfsbane. She’s still conscious but she needed medical care. The driver will send her to a hospital which is not in our pack. Your job is to take care of her and protect her. The ceremony is about to begin and the guards are all busy. You are her only guard. This is your first task and it is an important task. I assign it to you because I believe that you can make it. Don’t let anything happen to her. In addition, it’s a secret task. We still don’t know who did it to her, so keep a low profile and keep it a secret, do you understand?” Derek said with a serious tone.

“Yes. I’ll take good care of her!” Angel said confidently.

I closed my eyes and nodded. Knowing that I couldn’t change anything, I began to think about how to escape without getting her severely punished.

Derek leaned over and held me in his arms.

I’m sorry I can’t be your Luna today. I looked at him apologetically. I meant it. Tears welled up in my eyes.

“It’s not your fault. I’ll ask the Moon Goddess to choose another day. I’ll find out who did it and he’ll wish he was dead. Trust me, you’ll be fine.” He kissed me on my forehead and looked at me passionately. My Goddess, he really fell in love with me.

I nodded, unable to take my eyes off his face. The thought that I might never see him again tore at me.

He stood up and closed the car door. As the door closed with a bang and his figure was blocked out of the car, it went dark inside the car and my heart also sank.

It was the effect of the wolfsbane. I comforted myself.

I struggled to sit up and looked outside the car. He stood on the curb and looked at the car.

“Erika, you need to rest.” Angel wanted me to lie down and rest. But I insisted on looking at his figure. He looked smaller and smaller as the car drove away. Finally, he couldn’t be seen.

I lay down and closed my eyes, preparing for the escape and waiting for the car to arrive at the border of the pack.
