Chapter 99

Ch. 99 / 135 Apr 13, 2025

Harry opened his trunk and grabbed a spare tshirt. "Here," he said and passed it to Brooklyn. "Change inside the car, the windows are tinted."

"This is your top," she said.

"I'm pretty sure you don't want to stay in those wet clothes," Harry said and shut the trunk and opened the car door for Brooklyn. "Get dry, you don't want to make yourself ill."

"Thank you," Brooklyn mumbled and climbed into the car, shutting the door behind her. She quickly changed out of damp clothing, keeping her underwear on and pulled Harry's top over her head. When she was changed she exited the car and saw Harry in a dry pair of jeans and a dry shirt.

"Ready?" He asked and Brooklyn nodded and got into the passenger seat as Harry sat in the drivers. "I bet you're glad you didn't go to school now."

Brooklyn shrugged her shoulders. "I was rather looking forward to seeing Josh," she said slowly, waiting for Harry's reaction.

He tensed and gripped the steering wheel tighter. "Oh really?"

"Really," Brooklyn nodded as Harry started the car and drove away from the beach. "We had a GREAT time at the diner."

"Don't try to make me jealous," Harry said sternly, "because I will get jealous and you will not like it."

"Why would you be jealous?" Brooklyn said obliviously, feigning innocence.

"Don't try to play me, babe," Harry tutted. "I know you feel this between us."

"Feel what?"

"Don't lie either," he said. "You can't explain it, but you know there is something between you and me. Now stop talking about Josh to make me jealous because I have no problem making sure you never talk to him again."

"How do you know I'm lying?" Brooklyn wondered, raising an eyebrow at Harry.

"Like I've said before, I'm in your head," Harry said and Brooklyn rolled her eyes.

"Speaking of that... Have you got any aspirin?"

"Why?"

"If you were in my head then you would know, wouldn't you?" Brooklyn smirked.

"Don't get smart with me, babe."

"My head's just been hurting the past few days," Brooklyn shrugged. "It's just a bit uncomfortable."

"Is it painful?"

"Not really, just feels like pressure and it's annoying," Brooklyn said.

"Sorry, I haven't got any aspirin," Harry said.

Brooklyn sighed and nodded.

"So, back to what we were talking about-"

"I don't want to discuss that, Harry," Brooklyn said. "I feel nothing towards you."

"Then explain why you let me kiss you."

"I didn't let you."

"You didn't do anything to stop me," Harry shrugged.

"Yeah... well... you're a good kisser," Brooklyn grumbled and looked at her hands.

"I'm rather annoyed to say that so are you," Harry muttered and Brooklyn looked curiously at him.

"What?"

"It means I'm not the only person to kiss you."

Brooklyn paused, not knowing how to respond. "W-why do you think that."

"Because you would not kiss the way you do if you have never kissed a guy before, babe," Harry said.

"Why does that annoy you?" Brooklyn wondered.

Harry turned to look at Brooklyn and raised an eyebrow. "Why do you think it annoys me, Brooklyn?"

"Why would I ask you a question if I knew the answer, Harry?" Brooklyn asked and Harry rolled his eyes.

"I don't want any guys near you," Harry said firmly. "I don't want any guys touching you-"

"That won't be a problem," Brooklyn muttered.

"I don't want you with any guys, especially not Josh," Harry said.

"You can't control who I can be with," Brooklyn frowned. "We barely know each other. You have no right to say that."

Harry didn't say anything and kept his eyes on the road. "But you can't deny that you don't feel something between us."

"I barely know you," Brooklyn whispered. "I don't trust guys. I don't like them touching me, definitely not freaking kissing me! Why are you different!"

"If you're patient you might find out."

"I'm not patient."

"Isn't that a shame," Harry said. "Learn to be."

"I will if you learn to be not so bossy," Brooklyn said.

"Impossible."

"Now isn't that a shame," she said sarcastically. "Harry... today was a mistake. I shouldn't have come."

"I gave you the choice to leave."

"And I should have," Brooklyn frowned.

"Then why didn't you?"

"That doesn't matter," Brooklyn said firmly. "This won't happen again."

"Won't it?"

"No."

Harry scoffed and shook his head. "You're scared so you try and run away from everything you're feeling."

"I am not scared," Brooklyn snapped. "And I'm not running away. I don't know what the hell I'm feeling, but it's going to stop."

"No it won't," Harry scoffed.

"And how do you know that?" Brooklyn demanded.

"Patience, babe."

"No, I'm not a patient person! Tell me or I won't speak to you again!" Brooklyn snapped. "You're messing with my head and I don't like it!"

"Don't you?"

"No."

"I'll ask again," Harry said, "don't you?"

"No," Brooklyn repeated firmly.

"I told you not to lie to me."

"I'm not!"

"I'm giving you a warning, Brooklyn, don't lie," Harry warned.

"Is that a threat?"

"No, I'm just telling you not to lie."

"Well you can't tell me what to do. You're a stranger, you have no right."

"I have every right."

"No!" Brooklyn said sternly. "You do not. There is nothing between us. There is no me and you. I'm going to go home tonight and forget about you, forget about today and you're going to do the same."

"No."

"No?"

"No," Harry nodded. "Now you need to shut up and calm the hell down. I can hear your heart racing."

"Okay," Brooklyn exclaimed. "Stop the car!"

"Why would I do that?"

"Because you're impossible to tolerate!" Brooklyn groaned. "You don't give me straight answers, you talk to me so damn rudely and you make me feel things that freaking scare me! So stop the damn car!"

Harry just shrugged his shoulders and Brooklyn groaned in frustration. She reached for the door handle and suddenly the car slammed to a halt. "Really?" Harry snapped, anger seeping into his voice. "Really?"

"I told you to stop the car," Brooklyn said.

"Fine, if you're so desperate to get away that you'd jump out of the car then fuck off," Harry said coldly.

"Fine."

"Fine!" He growled and Brooklyn fumbled with the door handle and pushed the car door open. She unclipped her seat belt and scrambled out of the car, slamming the door behind her. She stalked off down the road and swore under her breath angrily.

"You forgot your shit!" Harry yelled and Brooklyn looked back just as he chucked her damp clothes out of the window and onto the ground.

Brooklyn glared at him. "Fuck you!" She shouted and walked over and bundled her clothes up into her arms and carried on walking away.

"You don't even know where the fuck you are!" Harry called.

"It's better than being with an ass like you!" She exclaimed.

"Have fun in the cold!" Harry snapped and Brooklyn stuck her middle finger up at him as he drove past her and down the road.

"Asshole!" She yelled. "How can you be fucking nice for one minute and then an ass for every other minute!" Brooklyn slowed to a halt and she looked around. It was getting dark and cold and she had no idea where she was.

She took a deep breath to calm herself and frowned. How did Harry make her so angry yet make her feel something she's never felt before.

Brooklyn touched her lips. "No," she whispered. "Forget about him. He's a dick, he left you in the middle of nowhere, granted you willingly got out of the car in the middle of nowhere... Brooklyn, you stupid, idiot! You shouldn't have let him kiss you and then you wouldn't be feeling all these... feelings! It's your own fault. You bitch-" Brooklyn stopped herself from talking and rubbed her head as the pressure increased. She walked to the side of the road and sat down, putting her head in her hands.

The tears came suddenly and she wasn't really sure why she was crying. Frustration, anger, fear. Whenever she was with Harry he made her feel things that scared her. She swore to never go near a guy after the incident and she was letting a stranger (a dicky stranger) kiss her.

She thought of any other guy touching her and kissing her the way Harry did and shivered. The idea chilled her to the bone and made her want to run and hide.

But why didn't it with Harry?

The incident had messed Brooklyn up mentally. She tried to hide it, rather well most of the time, but she was scarred.

The feelings Harry was making her feel scared her.

Brooklyn sobbed into her hands and took a shaky breath. "You're fucked up, B," she said to herself and laughed humourlessly. "You're really fucking messed up." She wiped her eyes, but the tears kept coming. "Stop crying!" She yelled. "Stop crying, you weak girl!" She broke down again and sobbed loudly, not being able to stop her tears.

"Grow some balls!" She told herself through tears and searched through her clothes, crying even harder when she realised Harry had never given her phone back when he took it at the beginning of the day. "Fucking ass!" She screamed and threw her clothes angrily into the road.

She jumped up and looked down the road. "It goes on for miles," she whimpered and hiccupped. Her and Harry had drove for a long time to get to the beach. Fuck!" She shouted and sat back down on the side of the road, leaning back against a tree. "You're a mess," she muttered and laughed. "A fucking fucked up mess." Brooklyn rubbed her eyes as more tears came and she looked up into the darkening sky. She shivered and pulled her bare legs up to her chest. "What are you going to do, Brooklyn?"

*

It was dark, cold and empty. Brooklyn was on the verge of consciousness and her small frame was shaking rapidly. She was still sniffling. She was surprised she was still crying.

In the distance Brooklyn could hear a rumbling noise. She forced her eyes open and looked down the road only to see darkness. She sighed and closed her eyes, letting sleep take her briefly.

The chattering of her teeth woke Brooklyn up and this time the rumbling was closer. She squinted when a light in the distance hurt her eyes and she blinked a few times, trying to clear her blurry teary eyes.

She fell unconscious again and after a few minutes the rumbling was right next to her. A car pulled to a stop and a window rolled down.

"Shit."

Seconds later warm arms were wrapped around Brooklyn and the sparks woke her up. She panicked and looked up with wide eyes, not being able to make out the person holding her.

"No!" She yelled and thrashed about. "No, no, no! Let me go! Let me go! Please, not again!"

"Shh, shh! Brooklyn, it's me! I'm not going to hurt you, babe."

Brooklyn took a deep breath and looked up warily. She was taking notice of the sparks now. "H-Harry?" She whimpered and he carried her over to the car as she broke down in tears again. "I'm sorry, I don't know what's wrong with me. I'm screwed up. I'm a mess. This happens, I just f-freak out and I can't stop. It's been a while. I just have a b-breakdown and all the bad memories come back and I- I'm just fucked up, you shouldn't have come back."

"I think I'm partly to blame," Harry said stiffly. "And I'll always come for you." Harry opened the car door and gently placed her in the passenger seat. Brooklyn sighed when the heat from the car hit her and she looked up at Harry with heavy eyes.

"I-"

Harry shook his head and gently shut the door. Within seconds he was sitting in the drivers seat and he reached behind him and grabbed a soft jacket and laid it over Brooklyn. He then clipped her seatbelt in and turned the heat up. "You're fucking shaking," he muttered and cupped Brooklyn's cheek. "I'm sorry. I would have come earlier, but the fucking car broke down."

"I was more of a mess earlier," Brooklyn whimpered.

"I know," Harry murmured and started the car. He gently took Brooklyn's hand and linked his fingers with hers. "Sleep, babe, you're safe."
