DEFEATED (SHY BOOK 2)

Chapter 97

Ch. 97 / 135 Apr 13, 2025

Brooklyn was happy when she left her house the next morning; she had received an email from Ben confirming her new job and her shifts for the next week, the sun was shining, she had managed to contain her unruly curls so they fell down her back and she thought she looked damn cute in her denim skirt and flowery top.

Brooklyn slipped her sunglasses on and shut the door behind her, hitching her bag higher up on her shoulder.

She was in such a good mood she only slightly frowned when she saw Harry parked outside her house.

"Please, don't do this," Brooklyn called. "Just stop it."

"Stop what?" Harry asked. "Get in."

"No."

"We've done this before," Harry tutted. "I always win, now get in."

Brooklyn shook her head and crossed her arms over her chest. "I'm not moving until you get the hell away from my house, Harry."

"If you want to skip school, that's fine by me," Harry shrugged and leaned back in his chair and raised an eyebrow at Brooklyn.

"I'm not going anywhere with you," Brooklyn said and sat down on her door stop. "I don't care if I miss school."

"Oh, such a rebel," Harry said sarcastically. "Just get in the fucking car."

"Just piss the hell off," Brooklyn retorted.

"You have a foul mouth on you, babe," Harry said and Brooklyn ignored him and took her phone out, distracting herself with it.

It went silent for a while, but it was rudely broken by Harry suddenly snatching Brooklyn's phone from her hand. "Hey!" She gasped and jumped up. "Give me my phone, you dick!"

"I will," Harry said and slipped it into his jacket pocket. "When you get in the car."

"Not happening," Brooklyn scowled and she reached for Harry's jacket, but he stepped aside quickly. He grabbed Brooklyn's waist as she stumbled and steadied her.

"C'mon," he said into her ear. "What's so bad about being with me?"

"You kissed me," Brooklyn whispered.

"You liked it," Harry said and Brooklyn sucked in a breath when Harry pulled her back so her back was against his chest. "You like this." Harry stretched his fingers out across Brooklyn's hips and she couldn't stop the shiver than ran through her body. "You know I'm not going to hurt you, babe."

Brooklyn gasped again when she was suddenly spun round and she looked up at Harry. "What are you doing?" She asked quietly.

"Touching you," Harry answered and gently wrapped his hand around the back of Brooklyn's neck and tangled his fingers in her hair. "You're not scared."

Brooklyn blinked a few times and brought her hand up to Harry's wrist. "Do you feel that?" She asked, the buzz of the tingles getting stronger and stronger.

"Yes."

"What is it?"

"It's what's making you trust me," Harry said and Brooklyn suddenly pulled away and coughed.

"School," she muttered and walked past him and towards his car. "Let's go." She got in and crossed her arms over her chest and poured, annoyed at herself for giving in.

Harry smirked slightly and shook his head. "You're a stubborn one aren't you, you don't like giving in."

"Me stubborn?" Brooklyn questioned and arched an eyebrow. "I think you should look at yourself, buddy."

Harry shrugged his shoulders and started the car. Brooklyn discretely glanced at him and she couldn't deny how hot he looked in his fitted white tshirt and his blonde hair that was messily pushed back. He had a graze of stubble forming and it just made him look more dangerous.

"Stop staring," Harry spoke up and Brooklyn quickly snapped her head to the front. "It's only fair, considering you'd probably call me an ass if I kept staring at you."

"I wasn't staring," Brooklyn muttered and she frowned when they missed the turning for the school. "W-what are you doing, Harry? Why aren't we going to school?"

Harry turned to Brooklyn. "Have a little faith, babe."

"No, take me to school," she demanded.

"Now who really wants to spend the day cooped up in a hot stuffy classroom when we could do something much more fun?" Harry said and Brooklyn gasped when he pushed on the gas and the car sped forward.

"Harry, no," Brooklyn said and her mouth dropped when she heard the click of the doors locking.

"It's not locking you in," Harry tutted. "It's stopping you from doing something stupid like jumping out."

"I think it's locking me in," Brooklyn said. "You're not exactly giving me a choice in this are you?"

"Just wait until we get there and then you can decide whether you want to go back to school or not," Harry said.

"No matter what I say you're still going to take me to wherever you're going, aren't you?" Brooklyn frowned and Harry just smirked to himself, not answering Brooklyn. "Do you ever listen to anyone but yourself?"

"It's my job to give orders, not take," Harry said dismissively.

"Your job?" Brooklyn questioned.

"That's right," he nodded and Brooklyn was jerked to the side as Harry took a sharp turn. "So I expect you to listen when I tell you to do something, babe."

"You can expect all you want," Brooklyn shrugged. "It doesn't mean I'm going to do anything you say."

"Not yet," Harry murmured.

"Not ever."

Harry ignored Brooklyn and turned up the radio, making her scowl.

"Don't think I'm going to let you walk all over me, Harry," Brooklyn said. "I won't be that girl."

"I never said you were going to be."

"I freaking seems like you want me to be," she muttered.

"What I want and what you're going to do are two completely different things," Harry shrugged.

"So you do want me to be a little bitch and run and listen to your every word?" Brooklyn gasped and Harry shrugged his shoulders.

"Not the bitch part," he said.

"Harry! This is the 21st century! You can't expect woman to do as you say! That's horrible!" Brooklyn snapped. "You sexist bastard!"

"Calm down, babe," Harry said sharply. "Don't yell at me."

"Don't tell me what to do!" Brooklyn argued.

"Fine," Harry said irritably and rolled his eyes. "Please, babe, can you calm the fuck down and don't yell?"

"Fuck you," Brooklyn snapped and glared at the road ahead of her and crossed her arms over her chest.

"Oh, don't pout," Harry said and shook his head.

"And you're gonna stop me?" Brooklyn asked and raised an eyebrow at Harry.

"Will you stop me if I do?" Harry wondered.

"Yes," Brooklyn snapped and Harry suddenly stopped the car and Brooklyn gasped as she jolted forward. "What are you-" Harry gently grabbed Brooklyn's chin and turned her head to face him. He ran his thumb over Brooklyn's lip and frowned.

"Don't frown either," he said softly, but sternly.

"You make me angry," Brooklyn said and clenched her hands into fists. She was confused about his touch. She was scared, but he also calmed her.

"You don't keep me calm either," Harry said and Brooklyn gulped as he leaned closer.

"Harry-"

"What?"

"Don't," Brooklyn whispered.

"Don't what?" Harry asked.

"Kiss me," Brooklyn gulped.

"And why shouldn't I?" Harry wondered.

"Because I don't want you too."

"No, you just don't want to kiss back. But you will."

"I-" Brooklyn was cut off by Harry's lips on hers. It felt better than the previous kiss. Sparks flooded her body and made her feel all giddy and lightheaded. Her mind was cleared of all the fear and all she could focus on was the feel of Harry's soft lips on hers.

What was she doing?

"No," Brooklyn gasped and grabbed Harry's shoulder and pushed him away. "Damn it, you need to stop doing that!"

"You need to stop kissing back then," Harry smirked.

"I can't," Brooklyn blurted and quickly slapped her hand over her mouth.

"What was that, babe?"

"N-nothing!" Brooklyn muttered and turned to look out of the car, gasping when she turned to look at the view.

White sand and sea could be seen for miles. The sun was shining and the waves were soft, causing gently ripples in the sea. The beach was relatively busy, couples were having fun, children were playing with their parents and old people were enjoying a day out eating ice creams.

"If you want we can turn around and go to school," Harry said and Brooklyn shook her head.

"No," she said.

"You sure?" Harry said with a knowing smirk and Brooklyn nodded sheepishly.

"I've always loved the beach."

"I know," Harry murmured and Brooklyn frowned.

"You what?"

"Nothing."

"What did you say?"

"You don't have to know everything, Brooklyn," Harry said and shook his head as he cut the car engine.

"I never said I did," Brooklyn said sharply. "You just sounded damn creepy and I wanted to know I heard it correctly."

"You didn't," Harry said dismissively and reached over and unbuckled Brooklyn's seatbelt. "Get out."

"A please would be nice."

"Get out the damn car," Harry sighed and Brooklyn glared at him.

"You're a dick," Brooklyn snapped and pushed the car door open and climbed out. She was hit by a warm breeze and she smiled, looking up at the scolding sun, letting it heat her skin.

"Lets go."

"Do you ever stop with the demands?"

"Do you ever stop with the arguing?"

"Do you ever stop being an ass-"

Harry cut Brooklyn off by quickly kissing her and she looked at him with wide eyes. "I had to stop you talking," he shrugged and Brooklyn took a step back and bit her lip.

She was annoyed that the kiss was so damn short.

"Fuck," she said under her breath and shook her head.

"Can we go now?" Harry said, growing impatient.

"Y-yeah," Brooklyn muttered and sped ahead of Harry who caught up easily.

"Get used to it," Harry said as they stepped onto the soft sand and Brooklyn's feet sunk into the floor.

"Get used to what?" She questioned.

"Me kissing you," Harry said simply.

"No," Brooklyn said. "I will not get used to it."

"You're going to have too."

"This could be considered harassment," Brooklyn said. "You can't go around saying things like that."

"I did give you the offer to take you back to school," Harry pointed out.

"After you practically forced me into your car and drove me to an unknown location where you could have killed me, and dumped my severed body pieces into a ditch where no one would find me ever again. This is kidnapping," Brooklyn stated and Harry raised an eyebrow at her.

"Tell me, babe, did you or did you not enter my car of your own accord?"

"You made me."

"Did I physically force you into my car?"

Brooklyn narrowed her eyes. "No."

"You chose to be here," Harry shrugged.

"I did not!" Brooklyn exclaimed.

"I gave you the option to go back to school."

Brooklyn looked at the sea and pouted. "But I love the beach," she grumbled.

Harry rolled his eyes. "Then for once stop arguing and enjoy yourself."

"That's rather hard in your company," Brooklyn said sweetly and kicked her flip flops off and held them in her hand.

Harry just shook his head and didn't say anything. He watched Brooklyn carefully as she walked along the beach, smiling at the cute children playing and the families around her. He noticed how her dimples showed when she grinned and how damn hot she looked when she bit her lip.

Brooklyn suddenly stopped and sat down on the beach. She laid back and linked her fingers together on her stomach. Harry sat down beside her and Brooklyn had to do a double take when she looked over and saw he had removed his top.

"You're shirtless," Brooklyn stated.

"I am," Harry said and ran his fingers through his hair.

"What if I just took my top off?" Brooklyn wondered and turned on her side to face Harry.

"Don't," Harry said sternly and his eyes turned dark.

Brooklyn raised her eyebrows and smirked. "It is really hot," she said dramatically and brought her hands to the bottom of her top, teasing it up her stomach, but not planning to take it off.

"No one is going to see you shirtless," Harry said and Brooklyn jumped when her arms were pinned above her head and Harry was hovering above her. "Am I clear?"

"Um..."

"Babe, no one will see this," Harry said lowly and placed his hand on Brooklyn's waist. "No one, but me."

"E-excuse me?" Brooklyn blurted.

"No one," Harry repeated and sat up straight so he was straddling Brooklyn. "You're not scared," he stated.

Brooklyn frowned and pushed herself up. "Your dickiness overpowers my fear."

"Dickiness?" Harry repeated and rolled his eyes.

"Yes," Brooklyn said and shoved Harry away from her. "Now hush, I want to tan."
