DEFEATED (SHY BOOK 2)

Chapter 95

Ch. 95 / 135 Apr 13, 2025

Much to Brooklyn's surprise, she wasn't as good as hiding as she thought.

Eyes followed her through the school halls and she groaned when she heard whispers about her and Harry.

This was all his fault.

Brooklyn gritted her teeth and stopped by her locker. She stuffed her books inside and shut the locker, spinning round to see Harry. "Jesus!" She gasped. "Leave me alone!"

"You're standing by my locker," Harry said in a low drawl and pointed to the locker beside Brooklyn. Brooklyn flushed slightly and quickly stepped to the side, leaving room between then as Harry stepped forward and opened his locker. "You do realise it is very obvious when you see me in the corridor, duck and then rush away."

"I-I've not done that!" Brooklyn lied and Harry raised an eyebrow.

"Oh, I'm must be imagining things," he said sarcastically. "You can't hide from me, Brooklyn."

"You do realise this is all your fault?" Brooklyn snapped and gestured to the students around them, whispering and blatantly staring.

"You did kiss me back," Harry shrugged.

Brooklyn pursed her lips and huffed. "I have to go."

"Do you?" Harry asked, staring at Brooklyn intently.

"Yes," she coughed.

"I'm in your next class," Harry said. "I'll walk you-"

"You will do no such thing!" Brooklyn said quickly and in a flash she was speeding away from Harry, letting out a long breath as she did.

She walked into her next class and spotted Josh sitting at the back of the classroom. He waved her over and Brooklyn glanced cautiously over her shoulder before walking up to him.

"Hey," Josh said smoothly and gestured to the seat next to him. "Take a seat, Brooklyn."

Brooklyn slid into the seat next to him and Josh turned to her, raising an eyebrow. "Is it true?" He wondered and Brooklyn groaned.

"You've heard too!" She exclaimed as Violet walked in to class beside Jasper, Violet's on and off boyfriend. Violet smiled and waved at Brooklyn and Jasper nodded to Josh.

"Is it true?" Josh asked and Brooklyn shook her head violently. "Speak of the devil," Josh muttered, looking at Harry as he strode into the room with Greyson.

"It's not true," Brooklyn said slowly, well aware of Harry's eyes flickering between her and Josh. "There's nothing between Harry and I."

Harry narrowed his eyes and Greyson scoffed, shaking his head slightly. They made their way down the class and sat on the row in front of Brooklyn and Josh.

"You sure?" Josh said disbelievingly and Brooklyn nodded.

"Super sure."

"Well in that case, I was going to go to the diner tonight with Jasper and Violet and I'd rather not third wheel," Josh said with a charming smile. "Wanna be my date?"

Brooklyn's eyes flickered to Harry's back as he tensed. "I'll go," she said and smiled, "but not as your date."

"You break my heart," Josh said dramatically and Brooklyn gasped.

"Friends," she said and raised an eyebrow at Josh who smirked.

"Sure, for now," he shrugged and Brooklyn rolled her eyes.

"I have no intention of getting into a relationship this young," she warned.

"We could still have fun," Josh said.

"Do you want me to come tonight?" Brooklyn wondered. "You're going about the right way of putting me off."

Josh laughed. "Okay, I'll be quiet," he chuckled.

"Please do," Greyson spoke up and turned round so he was facing Josh. "Your voice is highly irritating and while I would be pleased to punch you, I'm not in the mood to get suspended."

Josh swallowed and suddenly he didn't seem so confident and cocky.

"Well?" Greyson questioned.

"Move," Brooklyn spoke up. "If you're so highly irritated by us speaking then move."

"It's not you," Greyson said. "Just him." He pointed his finger to Josh.

"Deal with it," Brooklyn shrugged.

"Or Josh can move," Greyson said and smiled darkly. "I like that idea. Josh, do you?"

"I..." Josh spluttered. "It's not a bad idea-"

"No, don't let him intimidate you into moving," Brooklyn protested.

"That's exactly what you should do," Greyson said.

"Okay, can we just cut the shit?" Harry said and turned round as well. "Josh, move the fuck away."

Brooklyn gaped at Harry who paid no attention to her. Greyson wiggled his fingers at Josh as he packed his things away and while trying to hold onto his dignity we walked over to the other side of the classroom.

"You two are complete and utter assholes!" Brooklyn snapped and grabbed her things, getting ready to leave.

"No," Harry said and raised an eyebrow in warning. "You stay right where you are."

Brooklyn's mouth dropped. "No," she hissed. "Fuck you, Harry. Who do you think you are? Ordering me around? You can-"

Harry leaned forward and placed his hand over Brooklyn's mouth. "While I may love the sound of your voice I'd rather hear you moaning in a different situation."

"Sorry I'm late!" The teacher then decided to show up and walked into the class, throwing his bag on the desk in a rush. "Right, books out, guys!"

Brooklyn's eyes flickered to Harry's and she slowly brought her hand up and wrapped her fingers around his wrist, pulling his hand away from her mouth. "You have no idea how badly I want to snap your wrist," she growled.

"I think I can imagine," Harry whispered. "It's as if I can hear your thoughts. I can guarantee they aren't nice."

"You're correct," Brooklyn hissed. "They are not."

Harry stared at Brooklyn for a few more moments before finally turning round.

"Dick," she huffed.

At lunch Brooklyn retreated to the library. She felt strange as she walked in. It was silent and sparsely populated. She wasn't a library sort of girl.

Brooklyn found a seat at the back of the library and got her phone out, hoping to make the lunch period go quicker.

She doubted Harry would come to the library so she reckoned she'd be safe hiding there.

After ten minutes Brooklyn grew bored and took her math book out, attempting to answer questions that seemed like absolute gibberish to her. When that failed she resulted to doodling on her book.

Brooklyn was a social person, she didn't like being alone. She liked talking to people, being in someone's presence. A silent library was not a good location for her.

Brooklyn looked to the entrance of the library when someone walked in and she frowned, recognising him as one of Harry's friends. Ace.

Ace stopped at the entrance and his eyes scanned the library before landing on Brooklyn. He smiled kindly and Brooklyn frowned when he turned around and walked away.

"Shoot," she murmured and quickly gathered all of her things and stuffed them in her bag before scrambling up from the chair and rushing out of the library.

Was Harry really sending people to look for her?

This was getting weird.

"Brooklyn!" Sasha said, jumping when Brooklyn crashed into her. "What's wrong?"

"Running from Harry?" Violet guessed and Brooklyn took a deep breath.

"Hiding," she admitted. "Help me!"

Sasha laughed and grabbed Brooklyn's arm, pulling Brooklyn into the girls toilets.

"Sasha?" Alice voice yelled, coming out from behind a stall. "I've got not toilet paper and I need a shit!"

"I wonder if you're a girl sometimes," Sasha laughed and walked into an empty stall and unrolled some toilet paper, passing it under the door to Alice's stall.

"So, hiding?" Violet wondered and Brooklyn sighed, leaning back onto a sink.

"Yep," she grumbled.

"You didn't look like you wanted to hide when you were kissing him," Sasha commented.

"So it's true!" Alice yelled. "I thought it was just a rumour!"

"I wish," Brooklyn grumbled and covered her face with her hands. "Now he's everywhere I go! I can't escape him!"

"Right, this is where we become useful," Sasha said. "We are going to become your bodyguards."

"He came to my house last night," Brooklyn said. "He can get to me out of school."

"Right, sleepover at mine tonight," Sasha declared.

"We've got plans tonight," Violet said, nodding to Brooklyn. "Double date."

"I told him it's not a date," Brooklyn said and rolled her eyes.

"Me, Jasper, Josh and Brooklyn are going to the diner," Violet informed Sasha.

"Can I come?" Alice yelled. "Pretty please? I want a milkshake!"

"I can bring Austin and Tyler," Sasha said. "It can be a quadruple date."

"The more the merrier," Violet shrugged. "I'm sure Jasp won't mind."

"We can also protect you from Josh's advances," Sasha said. "He can't be a right pig."

"I've got no doubt about that," Brooklyn chuckled. "So, it's a plan."

"And then tomorrow you're all staying at mine!" Sasha said. "Operation hide Brooklyn begins."
