Chapter 98

Ch. 98 / 135 Apr 13, 2025

Harry passed Brooklyn an ice cream and she raised her eyebrows. "A 99p flake? You cheap bastard," she said with a roll of her eyes. "Thanks."

"I can always take it back," Harry shrugged and Brooklyn gasped when he snatched the ice cream from her hands.

"No, no, no!" She said quickly and tried to grab it. "I want it!"

"I don't think you deserve it," Harry said and held the ice cream from Brooklyn's grasp.

"Harry!" She whined. "Just give me the damn ice cream."

"Not good enough," Harry said and smirked when Brooklyn pouted.

"Please?"

"Getting better," he nodded.

"Pretty please with a cherry on top," Brooklyn said dramatically.

"You're lucky I'm feeling nice," he warned and passed Brooklyn the ice cream back.

"Thanks," she said sarcastically and savoured the chocolately goodness as she took a bite of her flake.

"When do you start work?" Harry asked.

"Monday," Brooklyn said and turned to Harry with a frown. "How do you know I have a job?"

"It's a small town," Harry said dismissively. "People talk."

Brooklyn narrowed her eyes, but nodded slightly and ate her ice cream. "I've made an observation," Brooklyn declared after a silence.

"Do I really want to know?"

"Probably not," she shrugged, "but I'm going to tell you."

Harry rolled his eyes. "Fine."

"You lie a lot," Brooklyn said.

"Do I?"

"You do."

"I think your observation is wrong."

"You brush things off," Brooklyn pointed out. "But some things you say are just creepy and you lie."

"Whatever," Harry shrugged. "Eat your icecream."

"Don't tell me what to do," Brooklyn frowned.

"Please?" Harry said sarcastically and Brooklyn punched his shoulder.

"You need to learn to be polite."

"I said please, yet I'm the one who gets punched?" Harry said and scoffed. "That's fair."

"You're an ass and you need to stop lying to me," Brooklyn said and she gasped when Harry pushed her ice cream she was eating into her face as she took a bite. "Oi!" She yelled. "You ass!"

"Sorry, that was the only publicly acceptable way I could think of to shut you up," Harry said dismissively and Brooklyn glared at him and grabbed his shirt that was on the ground next to him and used it to wipe her mouth.

"Thanks," Brooklyn said sarcastically and threw the shirt at Harry.

"Did you just use my shirt to wipe ice cream from your mouth?" Harry said slowly.

"Are your eyes failing you?" Brooklyn asked. "Yes, I used your shirt to wipe my mouth. It's only fair, considering you shoved ice cream in my mouth."

Harry arched an eyebrow and his lips twitched ever so slightly. "It could've been worse."

"Stop that!" Brooklyn exclaimed. "Stop making dirty innuendos!"

"Hey, you're the one thinking it," Harry shrugged. "Not me."

"Bullshit," Brooklyn scoffed and stood up. "I'm going for a walk." She smiled sweetly at Harry and dropped the rest of her ice cream onto his bare stomach. "Bye!"

Harry swore and he jumped up as Brooklyn walked off with a smirk on her face. "Where do you think you're going, babe?" Harry called and Brooklyn yelled as Harry grabbed her round the waist and threw her over his shoulder.

"Harry!" Brooklyn exclaimed as sparks spread throughout her body. "What the hell! Put me down!" Harry didn't say a word and Brooklyn hit his back as he walked closer and closer to the sea. "You ass! Let me go!"

Harry adjusted his hold on Brooklyn and she gasped as she was moved so Harry was holding her bridal style as he walked deeper and deeper into the sea. "Comfy?" He asked.

"Don't you dare!" Brooklyn said and Harry tightened his hold on her.

He smiled darkly at her and Brooklyn flinched as a small wave splashed up and the ice cold water touched her skin. "You're not scared," Harry said and Brooklyn shivered when he rubbed her shoulder with his thumb.

"I'm going to kill you," she snapped, ignoring his comment.

"Babe, you could try," Harry scoffed. "Hold your breath."

"Harry! No-" Brooklyn was submerged into the cold water and she gasped when she resurfaced and moved her hair from her face. "I'm going to murder you!"

"Come get me," Harry urged and took a step back. Brooklyn narrowed her eyes at him, cursing when she realised that he could touch the ground and she couldn't.

"It's freaking freezing, I'm not the only one getting wet," Brooklyn said and swam towards him, raising her eyebrows when he smirked. "You're such a child, don't even go there!"

"I don't know what you're talking about," Harry shrugged and Brooklyn lunged at Harry, grabbing onto his arm. "Oh, you got me, what you going to do now?"

Brooklyn swam round Harry and jumped onto his back, groaning in frustration when he wouldn't budge when she tried to push him underwater.

"You're so strong," Harry said sarcastically and Brooklyn gasped when she was grabbed and suddenly she was in front of Harry. "Can you stand?" He asked.

"Just about," she said, her toes grazing the sand.

"Well we don't want that," Harry said and pulled Brooklyn deeper.

"Hey!" She protested and grabbed onto Harry's arms. "Why have you got to be so damn tall?"

"You're short," he shrugged and Brooklyn tensed when he gently grabbed her thighs and wrapped them around his waist.

"W-what are you doing?" She asked.

"What does it look like?" Harry wondered and Brooklyn chewed on her lip, not answering him.

"Harry," she said. "Why me? Why have you got this... obsession with me?"

"Obsession?"

"You know what I mean," Brooklyn huffed.

Harry slowly raised his hand and cupped Brooklyn's cheek. "It's a lot more than an obsession."

"That's so damn creepy," she whispered.

"But are you scared?" Harry asked. "Of me touching you?"

Brooklyn swallowed. "I'm not."

"Do you trust me not to hurt you?" Harry said.

Brooklyn paused. "I..."

"I'm not him," Harry said.

"Don't talk about him," Brooklyn snapped.

"I'm not going to hurt you."

"I trust that you won't hurt me physically," Brooklyn admitted.

"But mentally?"

"I don't trust you."

"Let me prove you wrong," Harry said lowly and started to lean in.

"Harry," Brooklyn said quietly. "I need to do something first."

"What?"

"Payback," she smiled and mustering all of her strength and pushed down on Harry's shoulders and shoved him underwater.

Harry laughed when he resurfaced and looked at Brooklyn. "I should've expected that," he said. "Now, c'mere, babe."

"I'm a little cold, I think I'm going to go back-" Harry grabbed Brooklyn as she started to swim away and he crashed his lips to hers.

Brooklyn didn't pull away.

She was drawn in by the sparks and she melted under Harry's touch. He was gentle, yet firm. In control. She gasped softly when Harry bit her bottom lip and their tongues met.

"You're cold," Harry said huskily and ended the kiss. "Let's go."

Brooklyn took a few seconds to compose herself before nodding quickly and swimming back to shore.

She wasn't scared of Harry.

Of his touch.

But trust was something else entirely.
