Chapter 122

Ch. 122 / 135 Apr 13, 2025

Brooklyn was asleep, cuddled into Harry's chest. Harry wasn't meant to stay at the hospital over night, but somehow he managed to get away with it.

Brooklyn slept peacefully with Harry. She felt no pain. Had no nightmares. She felt safe.

Harry brushed Brooklyn's curls from her face and tangled her hair round his fingers.

"Stop it," Brooklyn grumbled and batted Harry's hand away as she woke.

"Morning," Harry said. "Sleep well?"

Brooklyn shrugged her shoulders and winced as she adjusted her position. "You don't have to stay overnight, Harry."

"Knowing you you'll somehow manage to kill yourself if you're left alone," Harry said. "I've got nothing better to do."

"That can't be true," Brooklyn said and rolled her eyes. "Why do you want to be stuck babysitting me?"

"Because it's you," Harry shrugged and stood up, stretching out. Brooklyn watched as his muscles tensed and flexed. "Stop staring, babe."

"If you won't leave then you've got to put up with it," Brooklyn said and Harry rolled his eyes. He grabbed his top that was slung over the chair and pulled it over his head. "Come here," Brooklyn said and Harry raised his eyebrows but sat on the bed.

"What?"

Brooklyn smirked and ran her fingers through his hair, smoothing the kinks and knots that had formed over night. "Bed head."

"You can talk," Harry said.

"I'm the one who's injured. I'm not expected to look good," Brooklyn shrugged and she looked up into Harry's beautiful green eyes. "You have to leave," she said softly.

Harry frowned. "Why?"

"The girls are visiting me today."

Harry narrowed his eyes. "You-"

"I don't want you around Sasha," Brooklyn said quickly. "She's also been through a lot and I don't want you being an ass to her."

"Fuck off," Harry scoffed. "She bumped her head and could go home to her own house. She's not been through a lot."

"Harry," Brooklyn groaned. "You blame her."

"I never said that."

"I may not be in your head but I don't need to be to know what you think about her," Brooklyn said. "She's my friend and I don't want you upsetting her."

"It's not my fault if she gets easily offended, babe," Harry said.

"Just-" Brooklyn sighed. "Please, let me have some time with my friends. Go home, have some decent food, get some decent sleep in your own bed and take the time to stop worrying about me."

"I sleep better when I know you're safe."

"You know I'll be safe, I'm a hospital."

"I sleep better with you," Harry corrected. "And I know you do too."

Brooklyn looked away from Harry. "You have to leave soon anyway. The nurse is going to come and help me wash and change. They won't allow you in the room."

"I'll-"

"And once I am done I don't expect you to come back into this room. You are going to leave me alone to wait for my friends to arrive-"

Harry placed his finger over Brooklyn's lip. "I'll leave," he said slowly, "when your... friends are here. I'm not leaving you alone."

Brooklyn pursed her lips. Harry wasn't going to budge. "Fine," she muttered.

"And I'll be back later."

"Harry! No," Brooklyn said. "You don't need to be here constantly. I'm fine, really."

"I'm not arguing with you," Harry said and stood.

"Now there's a shock," Brooklyn said.

Harry have Brooklyn a look. "I'll go and tell the nurse that you're ready for her."

Brooklyn sighed and watched Harry's back as he walked out of the room. She rubbed her eyes and yawned.

She did sleep better with him.

She never had bad dreams with him.

She slept peacefully.

"Miss Fox?" The nurse knocked on the door and entered with a kind smile.

"Hi," Brooklyn said and tried to sit up but the nurse rushed over and helped her.

"Let me," the nurse said. "It's what I'm here for. Now, let's get you ready."

*

Harry entered the room once Brooklyn was in fresh clothes and the nurse had gone.

"Your aunt called me," Harry said and shut the door behind him.

"Why does Lisa have your number?" Brooklyn asked, raising an eyebrow at Harry who sat at the end of Brooklyn's bed.

"Because she's concerned about you and knows I'll be with you," Harry shrugged. "She said to tell you that she won't able to visit you tonight. She has to stay at work and won't make it back in time before visiting hours are over."

"That's fine," Brooklyn nodded. "I don't need constant company." She sent Harry a look, but he ignored her.

Brooklyn did want constant company however. She didn't like being alone. The idea of being in a strange place alone, especially at night, made her very unsettled.

"Your thoughts tell me you do," Harry said simply.

"Harry!" Brooklyn gasped and huffed. "Just-" She sighed and all her head. "Harry, can I talk to you about the accident?"

"Of course."

"The wolf."

"I've changed my mind."

"Harry, you know something," Brooklyn said. "The wolf... was it one of you?"

"A werewolf?"

"Yes."

"It was."

"Who was it?"

"I'm changing the subject," Harry said smoothly.

"No-"

"Yes."

"No, tell me ab-"

"No."

"Harry-"

"Subject change."

"Stop it, H-"

"Quiet."

"Seriously-"

"Hush."

"I can't belie-"

"I can't believe you won't be quiet either, babe," Harry said and Brooklyn reached over and threw a box of tissues at Harry's head. He easily caught it and raised an eyebrow. "That wasn't very nice."

"You're intolerable."

"You cope well enough," Harry shrugged.

"You give me no choice. It's not like I can get away from you."

"You tried. And failed."

"I didn't fail."

"Just because we didn't speak for a few weeks doesn't mean you succeeded," Harry clarified. "You can't stay away from me. It's impossible."

"Not impossible."

"We're mates. It is," Harry said surely.

Brooklyn rolled her eyes. "Harry, do you know who it was?"

Harry gritted his teeth and ran his fingers through his hair. "Yes."

"Who-"

"That's none of your concern. We're sorting it."

"It is my concern! I'm the one in a hospital!"

"Which is why you shouldn't be worrying about anything," Harry said. "If you were in danger I would tell you. You're not."

"Promise me," Brooklyn said seriously. "If I was, you wouldn't hide it from me. Promise me you'd tell me."

Harry paused and he looked at Brooklyn. "I don't make promises," he said. "I don't make promises because a lot of the time I can't keep them."

"Promise me," Brooklyn said. "Please."

"I promise I'd tell you if you were ever in danger," Harry sighed.

"Good. But I still want to know who the wolf was-"

"We have grapes!" Harry was cut off when Alice burst into the room. "I wanted to bring vodka but apparently that's not acceptable and for some strange reason you bring grapes to people that are in hospital. So... have some grapes!"

Brooklyn laughed when Alice literally bounced over to her and placed a bunch of grapes on the side. "How are you? You're not dead, which is good-"

"I'm sorry she's had coffee this morning," Violet said as she walked into the room. "We're so glad you're okay, B." Violet gently hugged Brooklyn.

"You gave us a hell of a fright," Alice said and gave Brooklyn a hug as well.

"Sorry," Brooklyn said sheepishly and looked around. "Where's Sasha?"

"Hiding in the toilets- I mean... Running late?" Alice said.

"What?" Brooklyn frowned.

"Sasha was going to join us when um... Harry wasn't here," Violet said awkwardly and avoided eye contact with Harry.

"Why?" Brooklyn frowned.

"Sasha is scared that your scary ass bodyguard blames her for what happened," Alice said. "She'd rather stay clear of him."

"He doesn't blame her!" Brooklyn said even thought she knew he did.

"He doesn't?" Violet asked hopefully.

"No, I do," Harry said.

"So cold," Alice whispered.

"Harry was going to leave anyway, weren't you?" Brooklyn said and raised an eyebrow at Harry who mimicked her and raised his own.

"I was?" He said and smirked slightly when Brooklyn narrowed her eyes.

"Yes."

"You can tell your near murderer of a friend that she's safe to come. I've got somewhere to be," Harry said to Violet and Alice.

"Harry!" Brooklyn gasped. "Sasha is a victim as well."

"No she isn't," Harry shrugged and picked up his bag from the floor and walked over to Brooklyn's bed. "Be careful and don't do anything stupid."

"I'm in a hospital, what can I do, Harry?" Brooklyn said. "Other than get sick of your company?"

"I'm sure you'll manage to surprise me, babe," Harry muttered and kissed Brooklyn's forehead briefly before walking out of the room.

As soon as Harry was gone Alice held her phone to her ear. "The devil has been summoned away to hell. The devil won't be here to try and kill you. It's safe to come and visit your cripple friend."

Brooklyn could almost hear Sasha's sigh of relief through the phone.

"Wait. Cripple?"
