DEFEATED (SHY BOOK 2)

Chapter 1

Ch. 123 / 135 Apr 13, 2025

Weeks passed and after many trips back and forth to the hospital Brooklyn was finally declared fit enough to return to school.

"I never thought I'd be happy about going to school," Brooklyn said as she looked up at the miserable looking building in front of her.

Brandon laughed and shut the door to his car. "I'm glad you're back, B."

"I should say it's good to be back," Brooklyn said. "But it's not. I mean it's great that I'm able to come back and I'm glad I am, but I'm really not looking forward to French first period."

Brandon rolled his eyes. "Oh the struggles you have in your life," he said sarcastically. "Come on, let's get inside."

Brandon ending up leaving Brooklyn as soon as she set foot inside the building. He got sick of the amount of people approaching Brooklyn to see how she was. He wasn't a fan of lots of people and Brooklyn told him to leave her.

"You're back soon," Austin said to Brooklyn when he noticed her by her locker.

"Fast healer me," Brooklyn grinned. "Is Sasha here yet?"

"Yeah, I picked her up. She just went to talk to one of her teachers," Austin nodded. "How are you? I know that Sasha is so sorry about what happened-"

"It's not her fault," Brooklyn said. "And I've told her that."

"I wish everyone saw it your way," Austin said and looked over Brooklyn's shoulder.

"I don't even need to look," Brooklyn sighed. "It's Harry, isn't it?"

"It is, and seeing as he still blames the girl I happen to really like I think I'm going to leave. I would love to punch him if I didn't think him or Greyson would kill me if I did."

Brooklyn groaned. "I'm sorry."

"Don't be. I'm glad you're okay, Brooke," Austin smiled. "See you at lunch."

Brooklyn nodded and turned round as Harry walked up to her with Greyson.

"So this is why you've blocked yourself from me," Harry said and leaned against the lockers. "You're back at school."

"And I didn't want you fussing," Brooklyn said.

"The accident was only a few weeks ago-"

"And I'm better now," Brooklyn said. "I'm pain free. I'm fine."

"I don't need to be in your head to know you're lying, babe," Harry said.

"Even I can tell you're lying, Brooklyn," Greyson said and raised an eyebrow.

"You, shut it," Brooklyn said sternly to Greyson and she looked at Harry. "I'm well enough to be at school. End of."

"Did your mate just tell me to shut it?" Greyson asked slowly and looked between Harry and Brooklyn."++

"Yes-:

Harry covered Brooklyn's mouth. "Shut it," he said to Brooklyn. "Get over it, Greyson, and expect it from her."

"Watch how you speak to me, Brooklyn," Greyson said.

Brooklyn pushed Harry's hand away. "Or what?" She asked.

"Guys," Harry snapped. "Enough."

"First day back and you're already making both of us angry, Brooklyn," Greyson tutted. "It's not off to a good start, is it?"

The bell rang and Brooklyn sent Greyson a look. "I've got to go to class."

"Let's go," Harry said to Brooklyn.

"I can go myself."

"I know," Harry said. "Now let's go."

Brooklyn sighed and walked down the hallway with Harry by her side. No one stopped and asked how she was with Harry by her side.

"You're in pain, babe," Harry said lowly when they walked into their classroom. "I can feel you."

"I'm fine, just a little sore still," Brooklyn said dismissively. "The hospital gave me pills to take."

"Have you taken them?"

"I..." Brooklyn looked away from Harry and sat down at the back of the class.

"Brooklyn-"

"They were the same pills I got given after I was taken," Brooklyn said quickly. "I had a bad injury and they gave me pills for the pain. I don't want to take the same pills."

Harry's eyes went to Brooklyn's hip where the scar was. "Was it for that?" He asked.

"Yes," she said sharply.

"When are you going to tell me about that?"

"I'm not," Brooklyn sniffed and shoved her book onto the desk. "Now help me and tell me what the damned date is in French."

Harry sighed and took Brooklyn's pen and wrote the date in her notebook.

Brooklyn loved Harry's handwriting. It was neat and tidy, she felt like a child scribbling when she wrote.

"Ahh! Brooke!"

Brooklyn nearly fell out of her seat in shock and swore under her breath, looking up to face Miss Mental.

"You alive! You better! Oui?"

"I guess," Brooklyn said.

"Brilliant!" Miss Mental grinned. "You have lots to catch up! You and Harry work hard, oui? Lots studying together?"

"Lots of studying?" Harry said and raised an eyebrow. "Sounds fantastic."

Brooklyn gave Harry a look. "I'll catch up, Miss."

"Wonderful!" Miss Mental exclaimed and literally skipped down the middle of class back to her desk.

"She nearly gave me a heart attack," Brooklyn gasped.

"Don't even joke about dying, babe," Harry said. He wasn't looking at Brooklyn, he was staring at the desk, his hands balled into fists.

"I..." Brooklyn bit her lip.

"Tonight?" Harry said and placed his hand on the back of Brooklyn's chair. His hand grazed her bare arm and sent tingles through her.

"What about it?"

"I'm taking you to dinner-"

"You what?"

"And then we're going to study. At your house. And I won't complain if it's the wrong kind of studying."

Harry smirked when Brooklyn rolled her eyes. "No," Brooklyn said.

"No?"

"Yes."

"Yes?"

"No, no!"

"Make your mind up, babe," Harry said and Brooklyn groaned and hit his arm.

"No," she said firmly.

"You know you want too," Harry said and Brooklyn shivered when Harry trailed his fingers down her arm. "Do you really want to go home where your aunt and uncle are checking in on you every five minutes to see if you're okay?" Brooklyn felt Harry in her head. "I know it drives you insane."

"Stay out of my head," Brooklyn said focused on building the wall, blocking Harry out.

"Come on, let me take you to dinner. I'll pay."

"I don't need you to pay for me-"

"Let me."

Brooklyn sighed. "You're not going to give up, are you?"

"Do you really have to ask that question?" Harry said.

Brooklyn rolled her eyes. "On one condition."

"What's that?"

"I don't want to have to drive far."

Harry frowned. "That limits out options."

"I don't care."

"Okay," Harry nodded. "We won't drive far."

Brooklyn smiled slightly. "Good."

*

"Sasha!" Brooklyn shouted, trying to catch her friends attention. "Don't ignore me! I know you can hear me!"

Brooklyn was receiving many strange looks but she didn't care.

"Harry's not with me!" Brooklyn yelled and instantly Sasha stopped, turned round and rushed over to her friend.

"I'm so sorry! Just really don't want to have to write 'death by angry boyfriend' on my grave," Sasha said. "He's been glaring at me non step! He's scary. Like not angry scary, but silent scary like he's going to attack when you at least expect it."

"He's not going to hurt you!" Brooklyn said and frowned. "Did you just call him my boyfriend?"

"I did," Sasha said with a smirk.

"He's not-" Brooklyn sighed and shook her head. "That's not the point. The point is he's not going to hurt you!"

"His glares hurt," Sasha said. "And they terrify me."

"He's most definitely going to glare at you," Brooklyn said sheepishly. "He's got this stupid idea in his head that the crash is your fault-"

"It was-"

"It wasn't!" Brooklyn insisted and linked her arm through Sasha's. "A wolf jumped in front of our car. Freak accident."

"I'm sorry," Sasha groaned.

"Don't be! But you can buy me food because you ignored me. Also, I left my money at home."

Sasha laughed as the canteen doors came into view. "Deal."

Brooklyn and Sasha entered the canteen. In the queue for food Brooklyn told many people that she was now fine and well and she let out a sigh of relief when she sat at their usual table. Violet and Alice were already there.

"I don't know how many times I've said I'm fine today," Brooklyn said. "I've answered the same questions so many times my head hurts."

"People are just worried," Violet said. "They want to make sure you're okay."

"Actually, people are nosy," Alice said. "Of course they want to make sure you're okay, but nosiness always comes first. It's not everyday you can say you nearly had to write 'death by tree' on your gravestone, people in this nosy small town want to know all about it."

Brooklyn looked at Sasha and Alice. "You two are so similar sometimes it scares me."

Alice grinned.

"I hear Harry is taking you to dinner," Violet said as Brooklyn bit into her sandwich.

"How!" Brooklyn asked through a mouthful of food.

"Nosiness!" Alice exclaimed. "It's inevitable."

"Is he?" Sasha questioned.

"I don't see how it's anyone's business," Brooklyn said. "But yes."

"Somewhere fancy?" Sasha wondered and wiggled her eyebrows.

"Just the diner," Brooklyn said and rolled her eyes. "I told him I don't want to have to drive far."

The three girls nodded understandingly. "And then you're going to go home and have hot sexy sex?" Alice asked.

"No, we're studying," Brooklyn laughed.

"So you're going to have hot sexy sex?" Alice repeated.

"No."

"You so are," Violet said dismissively.

"We're not!"

"I've come to realise you argue a lot," Sasha said. "You and Harry. And whenever you argue you tend to have sex. Odds are you're going to argue tonight, so you're going to have sex."

"Are you now experts on my sex life?" Brooklyn questioned.

"We're your friends, it's part of the job description," Alice said matter of factly.

Brooklyn couldn't help but laugh. "We're not going to have sex. We're going to study. I've missed a lot of school."

"And a lot of sex."

"I don't want to hear any more about me and Harry having sex!"

*I'd love to hear more.*

Brooklyn looked across the canteen and locked eyes with Harry who smirked slightly.

*Mind your own business,* Brooklyn said.

*You are my business, babe.*

"Well, I'm working tonight so I'll keep an eye on you two," Violet smirked.

"And just remember when they argue it always leads to sex," Sasha said.

"It does not!" Brooklyn gasped. "Not always."

"It does."

"For someone who is scared of Harry you sure like to talk about him a lot," Brooklyn said.

"He scares me, doesn't mean I don't think you two aren't cute together," Sasha shrugged.

Brooklyn rolled her eyes. "What about you and Austin?"

Sasha frowned. "I'm not sure how it's going. I like him, yeah, but there's no... no spark."

"You don't need a spark," Brooklyn said.

"You do," Sasha nodded.

Brooklyn thought about the sparks she felt with Harry.

"Do you have that spark with Harry?" Violet wondered.

Brooklyn looked at Harry and sighed. "I wish I didn't."

*

When the bell rang signalling the end of her last class Brooklyn stood up, said goodbye to Alice and walked out of the door.

"Ah ah ah," Harry's voice said in her ear and he wrapped his arm round Brooklyn's shoulder. "Where do you think you're going?"

"Away from you."

"Ouch," Harry said. "We were in the same class, babe, and I'm a lot faster than you."

Brooklyn rolled her eyes. "Since you're giving me no choice in being with you then I'm not going to make it easy for you."

Harry stopped walking and pulled Brooklyn to the side. "Fine, leave, but only if you 100% don't want to be with me. There can be no doubts in your mind. If it's the truth then I'll let you go."

"If it's not the truth?" Brooklyn asked slowly and she felt Harry in her mind. "What will you do?"

"Walk away and you'll find out," Harry said lowly and stepped back from Brooklyn. "I'm in your head, babe, you say you don't want to be with me, but you and I both know it's not completely true."

Brooklyn stepped back. "If it was 100% truth you'd let me go?" She asked quietly.

"I want you more than I've ever wanted anything in my whole entire life," Harry said. "But if I knew you didn't want it at all then I wouldn't force you."

Brooklyn took another step back.

"Brooklyn, I am in your head," Harry said. "Remember that."

"I know."

"And wolves love the chase."

Brooklyn took another step back and suddenly she was pushed up against the lockers and Harry's lips were on hers. "Harry-"

"You want me," Harry growled. "We're mates, you crave me. I'm never letting you go, Brooklyn."

Brooklyn looked up at Harry's green eyes. "I..." Brooklyn stopped talking and pressed her lips to his. She kissed him softly and pulled away. "You're going to drive me insane."

"You already drive me insane, babe," Harry sighed and grabbed Brooklyn's hand and pulled her down the hallway.
