Brooklyn was determined as she walked to school the next day. She was determined to ignore Harry. She was mortified when he dropped her home last night. She can't believe that she had sex with him again, even after the argument.
"Stupid, stupid, stupid girl!" Brooklyn said to herself and shook her head. "I can't believe you- ah! Control your freaking hormones, Brooklyn!"
Brooklyn could feel Harry in her head and she groaned. "Get out! And don't even try and pick me up today, mister! I refuse! I refuse you! I refuse to acknowledge you! I refuse- I just refuse everything!"
Brooklyn looked across the road and smiled awkwardly at a girl who was staring at her weirdly.
"Great, now she thinks I'm a lunatic," Brooklyn muttered and rolled her eyes. Brooklyn groaned and took a deep breath.
Her head was all over the place and she blamed Harry, but also the four cups of extremely caffeinated coffee she had drunk this morning as she didn't get much sleep last night. Again Harry's fault, but also her inability to settle once she was home.
She heard the engine before she saw it and she gritted her teeth when Harry's car slowed down next to her, but he didn't stop. Brooklyn caught his eyes and her insides felt giddy, but she forced herself to glare at him.
*I'll see you at school,* he said coldly and suddenly the car sped up and left Brooklyn alone in the street.
Brooklyn let out a long sigh and continued the walk to school.
*
Brooklyn was at her locker, fumbling with the combination when she sensed his presence. She knew he was close but she was still shocked when she was grabbed and pressed up against the lockers.
Before she could say anything his lips were on hers and she melted into his touch. Her lips moving in sync with his. Her brain cleared when he pulled away and she gasped and hit his chest.
"What the hell! You can't just do that, you dick! You-"
"Shut up and let me talk before I change my mind," Harry said lowly and covered Brooklyn's mouth with his hand. "My parents... We were attacked when I was younger. My sister was killed. They... they're not the same now. They're shells of themselves. That's what happened to my parents."
Brooklyn looked at Harry with wide eyes and it took her a few minutes to say anything when Harry moved his hand. "What about you?" She whispered.
"I killed the attackers," Harry said with little emotion. "I've not spoken to anyone about this but Greyson, but not in detail."
"I... I'm sorry," Brooklyn mumbled.
"Don't be," Harry said quickly. "It's just hard to talk about."
"So is this," Brooklyn said and placed her hand on her side.
"So don't talk," Harry said. "Think."
Brooklyn closed her eyes. "No. You telling me about what happened doesn't forgive you for last night."
"Babe-"
"Don't babe me," Brooklyn said.
"Brooklyn, I'll find out," Harry warned. "I'll find out everything about you."
"That is extremely creepy."
"You're my mate-"
"So you keep saying, but this is all so crazy to me!"
"You're not even trying to accept it," Harry growled.
"And you're not even considering how I might feel! This is your world, Harry, not mine!"
"It's your world now, babe."
"I don't want it to be!"
"That's not up to you," Harry said.
"It's not up to you either, you don't control me."
"I wish I could," he muttered and gritted his teeth. "I wish I could just get you to fucking accept this, but you're fucking stubborn-"
"Your qualities aren't exactly great either!" Brooklyn argued.
"At least I know what I want, Brooklyn," Harry snapped. "You still can't admit it."
"I have to get to class, Harry."
"So do I."
"Then get off me."
"I will," Harry said. "In a second."
"Ha-"
Harry kissed Brooklyn again. He brought his hand up and cupped her face, running his thumb over her cheek. Before Brooklyn could get too involved Harry had pulled away and had disappeared.
"Girl," a tanned girl called from across the wall. She smirked at Brooklyn. "He got you good."
Brooklyn's face flushed and she slammed her locker. "Not if I've got anything to do with it he hasn't."
*
Brooklyn played a game of cat and mouse for weeks. They didn't talk. Brooklyn tried and failed to avoid him, but when their paths crossed no words were shared, but kisses were.
Brooklyn could feel her body craving for Harry and it was driving her insane. The sparks were slowly getting more intense. Too hard to ignore. It took everything she had to turn the other way when she spotted Harry in the hallway.
Just like now.
She caught his eye. He was leaning against her locker, talking to Greyson. He raised an eyebrow when Brooklyn took a step back and shook his head.
*This is getting ridiculous now, babe,* Harry snapped. *Just get your ass over here. You hiding is starting to get on my nerves.*
Brooklyn closed her eyes and built the wall, blocking Harry from her mind. Harry's eyes went dark and Brooklyn ducked and rushed off before she saw anything else.
She had begun to realise that the more she hid the angrier Harry got. He was scary, but he didn't scare her. She knew he wouldn't harm her.
"You have that slightly panicked flushed look on your face," Sasha said, bumping into Brooklyn in the hallway and linking arms with her. "Did you spot a certain blond haired guy?"
"I did."
"I heard he punched someone yesterday. Usually it's Greyson that does that," Sasha said. "Either he's just annoyed for no reason, or a certain girl is causing his anger."
"He's just an angry person, nothing to do with me," Brooklyn shrugged.
"Oh really?"
"Really."
"How about we ditch school and go shopping? I have a date and need an outfit," Sasha said.
"Austin finally asked you out!" Brooklyn gasped.
"He did," Sasha blushed.
"Screw school, lets go!" Brooklyn grinned and Sasha laughed and the girls turned on their heels and headed for the exit.
Sasha turned the music up when the two girls were in the car and reversed out of the school.
"Why are you still avoiding him, B?" Sasha asked, sounding genuinely curious. "I know you guys argue, but you like him. I know you do. I get that you don't want to give up, but it's been weeks now."
"I think it's just habit now," Brooklyn admitted. "I've spent so long ignoring what we have I don't know what else to do."
"Give him a chance?"
"But all we do is argue and I hate it!"
"There's a thin line through love and hate," Sasha shrugged and turned onto the bumpy path that went through woods.
"Where are we going?" Brooklyn wondered.
"It's quicker to cut through the woods to get to the mall," Sasha explained. "B, I really think you should just try it. Give you two a go."
"But-" Brooklyn sighed. "It's so hard to ignore him."
"I can tell. You've been distracted and not right for weeks. Your concentration is all over the place, you're always fidgeting and you can't seem to look at one person for more than 10 seconds."
Brooklyn groaned and rubbed her eyes. "There's a lot more to Harry than meets the eye."
"There's a lot more to you than meets the eye," Sasha shrugged.
"We both have a hell of a lot of baggage."
"Then you both know how to deal with it."
"You should be a counsellor or something," Brooklyn huffed and Sasha glanced at Brooklyn and smirked.
"You know I'm right."
"I- Sasha!" Brooklyn cried out when a dark figure jumped out in front of the car and Sasha gasped and swerved the car. "The brakes!" Brooklyn yelled and her eyes widened when the car didn't stop.
"The brake's not working!" Sasha exclaimed and before Brooklyn could yell out again Sasha's blue car slammed into a fallen down tree and Brooklyn's world went black.
*
"Oh god, I tried to stop, I tried to stop!" Sasha sobbed and looked at an unconscious Brooklyn. "The car wouldn't stop, it all happened so fast-"
"Miss, we need to get you away from here so we can help your friend," the paramedic said and gently pulled Sasha out of the car and towards the ambulance.
"Is she going to be alright?" Sasha panicked.
"We need to get her to a hospital," Sasha overheard one of the paramedics say. "She's lost a lot of blood."
"Oh my god," Sasha gasped.
"We need help over here!" One of the paramedics yelled.
"Stay here," the paramedic with Sasha said and seated her on the back of the ambulance. He quickly ran over to the crushed car and Sasha sobbed, looking at the hands of the paramedics that were covered with Brooklyn's blood.
"Oh god," Sasha panicked. "Oh god."
"Shit!" One of the paramedics swore. "If we move her it will cause more damage, stop! Don't move her!"
"Brooklyn!"
Sasha gasped when she heard a familiar voice and she spotted Harry running over to the crumpled car.
"Brooklyn!"
"Sir, we need you to get back," one of the paramedics called when he spotted Harry rushing over to them.
Harry skidded to a halt when he saw Brooklyn and his heart dropped. Paramedics surrounded her, but he could clearly see the tree branch protruding from her stomach.
"Brooklyn!"
"Harry!" Greyson yelled and ran up to Harry and held him back, stopping him from ripping through the paramedics to get to Brooklyn. "Let them do their thing. You'll only make things worse."
"Get off me!" Harry yelled and Greyson gritted his teeth and threw Harry to the ground.
"They're helping her! Stay the hell back!" Greyson yelled.
"What the fuck happened!" Harry shouted and jumped up from the ground. His eyes landed on Sasha. "What happened!"
"Greyson, man, calm him down!" Kal called as he arrived with Ace. They walked over to Sasha who was in shock and Greyson dealt with a livid Harry.
"Hey, Sasha, you're okay," Ace said and took a seat next to her. "We need you to tell us what happened."
"There was a wolf," Sasha stuttered. "It just appeared out of nowhere! I tried to stop the car, but the brakes didn't work and... and we just crashed. Oh my god, Brooklyn's going to die isn't she! Oh no, she can't!"
"She's not going to die," Ace said.
"God, she can't, Harry's moody enough as it is," Kal muttered and glanced over to were Greyson had Harry pinned to the tree, attempting to calm him down.
"How did the paramedics get called?" Ace asked and Sasha shakily pointed to a guy who was standing a distance away.
"He was out for a run," Sasha explained. "I think he said his name was Oscar."
Before Ace or Kal could take a step towards Oscar the paramedics had Brooklyn strapped to a stretcher and were rushing towards the empty ambulance.
Harry was by the ambulance in a flash. "I need to go with her," he said, panicking when he heard her faint heartbeat.
"Who the hell are you kids?" A paramedic demanded.
"I'm her boyfriend," Harry said. "Please, let me come."
"I've never heard the word please ever leave his lips," Kal murmured.
"We haven't got time for this, let him come," a paramedic yelled.
"Get in," another one said. "But if we say to get back you get back. We're trying to safe this girls life and it's not looking good."
"We'll meet you at the hospital," Ace called and Harry scrambled into the back of the ambulance and took Brooklyn's cold limp hand.
*I'm here, babe,* he said and swore under his breath. *I'm here.*
