Chapter 113 She's here for a crime
Ethan's POV
I just watched as Rachel handed herself over to the police.
This was really happening?
I thought Rachel would turn back, to at least take a last look at me or her friend but she didn't, until she was completely out of sight.
"What just happened?" Mark asked the question, which I could bet was on everyone else in this room's minds because it was on mine.
Rachel just rejected her ticket to freedom just because of what, she thought I was with Lana?
What kind of bullshit was that?
" This is all your fault". Marina suddenly said I turned to face her.
She nodded her head, wiping her tears with her hands before glaring at Mark who stood there surprised.
"How is this my fault?" He asked as she shoved him off her.
Mark, who had been hugging Marina all through, comforting her from Rachel's harsh words, was suddenly pushed away.
" This is your fault". She said in a more stern voice before she looked at me.
Why was she directing her gaze to me?
"This is both of your faults. "
I blinked before shoving my hands in my pocket and staring at her. " Hey Marina, don't talk to me like that". I said in a cold voice and she snorted before returning her gaze to Mark.
" I told you, Mark; I told you to stay the fuck outside. What are you doing here? " She yelled at him, and the latter just stood there unsure of what to do.
He looked at me, his gaze urging me to say something.
" Marina, that was my fault. I just charged in here because I wanted to see how Rachel was doing. I didn't expect this."
She snorted folding her hands. " So this is your fault ".
I glared at her but she just shook her head.
" Don't do that, this is practically your fault. You were the one who drank with Lana and got yourself drunk, you were the one who ruined your almost real relationship with Rachel, and when I just wanted to help you out... " She snorted again. " But you just have to drag me down with you".
" Marina don't talk to Ethan like that". Mark said and Marina snickered in anger.
" Hey, you're not exempted too. I told you what Rachel thought about Ethan and everything else, yet you still allowed him to come in here. "
Mark had a helpless expression on his face. " I couldn't stop him. How can I stop him? " He asked helplessly and Marina just shrugged.
I could see how much what Rachel said was hurting her, but she was trying to act strong.
I took a deep breath, before letting it out. "Fine, I take the blame. This is my fault, all of these, but how the hell is Lana dead?" I asked calmly even though I was anything but calm at the moment.
The look Rachel gave me before she left... It showed she was hurt. But I didn't do any fucking thing.
She just refused to let me explain, even giving herself up to the police rather than allowing me to get her out of there.
" You don't think we are all asking the same question? " Marina snickered again. She has begun pacing about the room while occasionally scratching the back of her neck.
I sighed loudly and she turned to face me. " Marina I know you're mad, but it's not at me or Mark... Neither is it at yourself, you're mad at Rachel for not trusting you"
" You're mad that she thought of you as a betrayer despite everything you both have done together and don't you dare deny it. " I said calmly.
It was quite obvious to see her real feelings because that was the exact same way I felt.
The past few months, all I had tried to do was to show Rachel my true feelings for her, but she just... She just didn't care about them.
And then I make one mistake, one foolish and extremely stupid mistake, and she doesn't trust me anymore.
It hurt.
It hurts so much, so I could easily tell Marina was feeling the exact same way.
Marina nodded, her eyes glistening with unshed tears. " You're right. I am mad at her, but you sure as hell know it's your fault. "
" We can't keep blaming Ethan for this. Yes he drank with Lana, but it only ought to have been one glass but then she drugged him"
"She drugged you?" Marina asked in surprise and I nodded.
" See... " Mark came to stand in between the both of us. " This is not fully his fault; it was Lana's. "
" And now the perpetrator is dead ". Marina said with a scoff. " Even in dead, that girl still manages to make our lives miserable, most especially Rachel's. "
I bit my lips as I watched the two other people in the room talk.
They were talking about important things, but I just couldn't bring myself to listen fully.
The look Rachel gave me before she left was haunting.
She was really ready to die than to just accept my help, and what she said to me before she left.
' I didn't kill your girlfriend and unborn baby... '
What the hell did she mean by that?
" Was Lana pregnant?" I asked aloud and the two other people in the room looked at me.
" What did you say?"
" You said what now? "
Mark and Marina asked at the same time.
I removed my gaze from the floor which I was previously looking at, and repeated the question.
" Was Lana pregnant?"
" Lana pregnant? How would that be possible?" Marina asked in disbelief before she looked at Mark who shrugged.
" How am I to know? " Then he raised a brow at me. " What makes you say that? "
" Because before Rachel left, she said, I didn't kill your girlfriend and unborn baby; that meant Lana was pregnant. "
" And she thought the baby was yours... " Marina said, putting everything together before she brushed her hair roughly back " Holy shit, now I get why she's extra mad at you."
" How can she even think you're responsible for the baby?" Mark asked and Marina punched him lightly on the arm.
" That's a stupid question". She said and Mark muttered an ' ouch '
" Lana probably placed that idea in her head when Rachel went to visit the mansion yesterday, and I'm very sure you know about that already". She said the last words staring at me.
I couldn't deny that fact since Mark had already informed me.
"I still can't believe this is happening," Marina groaned, brushing her hair backward again.
"What I can't believe is why we're having this conversation in a prison room," Mark said sarcastically and both me and Marina turned to glare at him.
He shrugged placing his hand on his head in surrender. "What? All I'm saying is that we should not be having this conversation here and that's it."
"But Rachel is here," Marina snapped back, and for the first time today, I had to agree with her.
But I kept my mouth shut because I knew if I said anything, Mark wouldn't speak his mind freely any longer.
"Yeah she's here, but for a crime."
A crime? I had to resist the urge to scoff at my best friend.
"Tell me, Mark, do you think Rachel killed Lana? "
